It's Works-For-Me Wednesday at Rocks In My Dryer. Be sure to stop by Shannon's site and peruse the many suggestions. I have found some great recipes, especially, as I've perused the many tips the last several weeks.
With our temperatures pushing the 90's here, the air conditioner has had to run a bit, the sunscreen is needing to be re-stocked, and ice cube production stepped up. And I'll be needing to stock up on limes and perhaps some oranges (IF I can afford them...Wal-Mart was selling them for nearly 70 cents EACH last time I noticed...Yikes!). One of dh's favorite hot weather refreshments is "agua de limón"...in other words, limeade.
Add the juice of 4-5 small limes to a glass of water, with sugar to sweeten to taste...or splenda if you're watching those carbs and calories. Add ice, and you're set. Add the juice of one or two oranges for an orange-lime drink. For a pitcher, I eyeball it, and taste test as I go...about 1 1/2 pounds of limes, and perhaps 6-8 oranges (expensive with current prices). Lemons will work as well, but we prefer the limes.
*Be careful squeezing those limes...when I was a teenager, my Mom got a great deal on limes, and we hand squeezed bunches of them...we both ended up with severe burns on our hands from the acid. A Mexican style citrus squeezer is my favorite way to avoid too much contact. |
