It's Works-For-Me Wednesday at Rocks In My Dryer. Check out Shannon's site for lots of great tips!
Dh's work sometimes hasn't allowed him to just sit and have a leisurely lunch break over the years. When cement is wet, you have to deal with it, and so his lunch has usually needed to be easy to grab and go. Even now, as his work involves driving a lot and visiting multiple jobsites in a day, he has to be able to quickly and neatly deal with the contents of his lunchbox.
Sandwiches are pre-cut in half, and not too bulky, as they are easier to handle quickly that way. Rather than pack whole fruits, they are cut in slices. A Rubbermaid container is packed with various options, so that he is able to choose those items that work, and save the rest for another time. Some of those options include: slices of cheese or string cheese, baggies of nuts, boiled eggs (pre salted and peppered), veggie sticks, small containers of yogurt, jello, pudding, cottage cheese, perhaps a piece of leftover chicken or other meat, a couple of slices of lunchmeat in a baggie, granola or cereal bars, etc. Dh will let me know if something isn't working well, and we try to mix it up so it's not always the same stuff. Utensils are also packed into this rubbermaid container. A separate rubbermaid container is packed with salad, and a small covered container nestled into the salad containing dressing so that the salad isn't all wilty when he gets to it.
He also takes a variety of drinks, usually a couple of different juices, a soda, a quart bottle filled with a crystal-light type beverage, and a couple of bottles of water. It's nice to have options, and in a hot climate, he'll probably go through all of these on a hot summer day and then some.
These are the little things that make lunch easier on hubby. It works for him, and it works for me!
