Check out the fine specimen my boys found during our Memorial Day outing, a drive to and thru some favorite parts of Utah. It was a last minute trip, and the scenery was great. A stop near Duck Creek gave the boys the chance to explore, and this was among their many discoveries.
I'll post when I have a chance about the "Real Tool" my kinesthetic 5yo found.

My boys would love to see that up close ! We have salamanders, frogs and toads my kids have found. I know there are snakes but I haven't seen them pick one up. lol I can't wait to see what your 5yo found. Please let me know when you post it!
Before they picked up the snake, some local youths walking by told them that it was a grass snake, and that it would not bite. Armed with this knowledge, they couldn't wait to handle it. One of my daughters even held it. As for me...they were quickly informed that they had better keep it far from me!
My Myles once was playing with a garter snake..he wouldn't put it down. It eventually grew tired of being played with.. and BIT. When it let go, Myles was no longer hold onto it!
Although we have some good snakes around our home, I avoid them at all costs. The kids tend to also view them at a distance. We have had more than enough encounters with all kinds of snakes; Cottonmouth, King snake, Rattler, Copperhead, Garter and Black snakes. I know they serve a purpose and I try to respect that, but a common saying down here is 'the only good kind of a snake is a dead one.'
