Works For Me Wednesday: Backwards Day

It's the "Backwards Day" edition of "Works For Me Wednesday"

at  Rocks In My Dryer !  Rather than offering tips, today's participants

are requesting them.  Be sure to scoot on over and offer your "sage words"

to those who seek solutions to all manner of queries!

My own query relates to craving busters.  I have a very definite sweet tooth,
and I've found a couple of things that help.  A low carb diet is immensely helpful...when I stick to one !  When snack time rolls around, a piece of string cheese or lunchmeat often kills any sweet cravings, and a chicken breast with salad at lunch is usually a winner for carrying me through an afternoon without endless empty carbs being consumed.  I've found that a nice dandy bag of chocolate chips in the cupboard (Hershey's special dark, especially) last well enough and allow for a small remedy to chocolate cravings, without tempting me to eat the whole thing.

Hence, my request: When it comes to those awful carb cravings, what works for you?

When the carbs hit, I'll eat nuts because they give me the same type of crunch that I crave from most carbs (crackers, pretzels, cereal, etc.) But I must admit most of the time I just eat the carbs :) Visit me at talenttoplay.blogspot.com

I just picked up this week's issue of Woman's World, and it suggests using Vanilla. I've used it before---a few drops on a cotton ball---as a room freshener before.

Having impaired glucose intolerance (pre diabetic) has forced me to use a low carb diet. So watching my health has been my number one motivator. I have learned to make the most of what I can have. Dark chocolate means more to me than say a decorated cake from the store (really). So for an event like my birthday or Mother's Day I might choose a grilled filet mignon steak, small baked potato, terrific toss salad, a glass of wonderfully flavored ice tea with splenda sugar and a piece of decadent Godiva dark chocolate! Maybe two! LOL
Blessings,
Laurie

I am diabetic when pregnant, and what works for me is to eat the opposite of my craving. For example, a sour pickle or sauerkraut instead of sugar.
For a carb craving, I'd eat something non-carby. A boiled egg, a cucumber with sour cream dressing, etc.

As you can tell by the recipes on my blog, I don't fight it. We eat the carbs. I just try very hard to make them the GOOD carbs. I figure everything in moderation.

Thanks for the comment on my bean fiasco! I don't have a pressure cooker. I grew up with my mom being slightly fearful of them. Thus, I don't have one. I am inspired to look into it, though!

Thanks, Stephanie@inspired

I try to have sweet things around the house that are sweet AND good for you such as dried banana sticks or fresh fruit. If I'm really under attack, I'll dip my finger in the honey. Hey! At least it has nutritional value. :>) Always start with a very full glass of water first; it lessens how much one will actually sneak of the sweet stuff.
Seriously though, if you are having mega attacks daily like I was a few years ago, you might want to be checked for Candida or a weakened thyroid. Intense sugar cravings are signs of both of those. 'Course its signs of other things too, but that's what it ended up being for me.
Many Blessings,
Holly

Thank you so very much for your prayers for my family. Our prayer is that those who do not know Jesus will seek Him because of This.

Because of Jesus, Bobbie

I used to work at a holistic health center. One thing I learned is that when you crave something your body actually needs something in that food, so the key is to find something heathier with that property. The most common one is that if you're craving chocolate, your body needs magnesium, which is also found in almonds. If you eat a few almonds every day, you will not crave chocolate.
