Playoffs...
Our Little League Organization this year has certainly been a challenge...disorganized is the key word for the year. Playoff schedules were no exception, as Friday evening we finally got word of a time for Saturday's game. We were given the early game. The game was tough at first, as the boys, our son included, were pretty nervous. They gave up 5 runs the first inning, and spent the rest of the game coming back. DS struck out his first time at bat. As they moved along, however, they got into the game, started to rally, and in the final inning, won the game. Nice to be the home team! DS scored the tying run after being walked, and stealing second, third, and home. The winning run was scored in a daring steal of home.
The coaches discovered AFTER the game that pitch count rules had changed for tournament play, and that any player who pitched more than 20 balls was ineligible to pitch again without 3 days rest plus 1 game rest. In season play, the count limit was 40. As the coaches checked pitch counts during the game, none of the league officials informed them. I'm not certain whether the coaches had the updated rules or not, but I'm sure tired of this secret society stuff. In my ideal world, it would be a priority that parents, players, coaches, and officials were all interested in learning the game well, and that the officials would strive to keep everyone informed so that they could do their best. Worse, those rules were implemented the previous night during a game between the #3 and 4 teams to determine their playoff positions. The same two teams played right after we did. The next games being tonight, none of their pitchers going over the 20 pitch count in those games are eligible tonight. We didn't use all of our normal pitchers, but ds is getting ready just in case.
On a brighter note, the ump who was so sharp in his dealings with our coaches the other night apologized. That's a big praise! |
