Dapper Duck

At art lessons, the teacher told us about a duck stamp.  I'm going to draw a lot of ducks to learn how to draw ducks.

P.S. from Sophie's Mom:  While putting together my grocery list today, Sophie needed something to do.  I suggested that she practice drawing a duck.  I did a Google image search and let Sophie pick a duck picture.  She started drawing a couple, got frustrated, and crumpled up her papers.  I then showed her how to look at the photograph and see the shapes.  I drew a sample duck, showing her the circle head, how the neck connected, and the different spaces and shapes to pay attention to.  I did my grocery list and she drew the mallard duck above all by herself, looking at the photograph.  I was so pleased that she saw what I was describing and drew so well.  The duck doesn't have feet, because grass was covering them in the picture.  She drew the female duck behind as well, but wasn't as in tune to the shapes apparently.  She also added the foliage from her own imagination.  It wasn't in the picture.  Can you tell I'm a proud Mom?

That mallard, in particular, is absolutely terrific! You have talent, and I am not just saying that. I genuinely see a gift. Keep feeding it and it will grow and grow and grow.

You have done a fine job on your artwork, Sophie! You must continue "sharpening" your pencil to make some more! Can your Mom put your work in an art contest? I am sure you could win. Have fun drawing some more!

Wow, what a great duck drawing! Here is a duck joke that is one of Conner's favorites (and mine): A duck waddles into a drugstore and says: "Hey, give me some chapstick -- just put it on my bill!"
