Welcome to Freebie Friday!

Welcome to Freebie Friday

Poetry is where a child's writing can really come to life. I love reading my own children's poetry. Sometimes it's serious, and sometimes it is really funny. Here are some great freebies to help your children learn about Poetry.

Lapbooking has become one of my favorite things to do when studying a subject. Homeschool Helper has a wonderful poetry lapbook for children ages 3rd-6th grade. How about trying to write a Haiku? Children's Haiku Garden or In the Moonlight A Worm has many resources to teach your child how to write a haiku. For those early writers, print out lined, shaped paper to write their poetry on. You can also make your poem into a certain shape with Read, Think, and Write.

Poetry 180 is geared towards high school students. They offer one new poem a day, for 180 days. Looking for a certain poem, but can't seem to find it? Try this Poem Hunter It will allow you to look up poetry that may no longer be in print.

Be sure to check out Homeschool Diner for a large list of other free poetry links as well.

In the words of Linda Pastan, "Poetry is not a code to be broken but a way of seeing with the eyes shut".

Enjoy those freebies,

PS. I just had to share this wonderful American history website with you, called Homeschool Patriot. It has all kinds of free downloads and lessons. You can even download the full text of the Declaration of Independence!
