Jul. 3, 2007 - The Blogger Reflection Award

It appears that it is my turn to hand out this award, after recieving it kindly from Free2bme. The instructions say that I am to award it to five bloggers who have made an impact on my blogging career; bloggers who reflect the faith, bloggers who take care in their writing and write for a purpose. The person who created this award says, "The reason for the title is because this award should make you reflect on five bloggers who have been an encouragement, a source of love, impacted you in some way, and have been a Godly example to you. Five Bloggers who when you reflect on them you get a sense of pride and joy... of knowing them and being blessed by them."
So it is with pride and pleasure that I award these five bloggers.
Osprey. I don't know how I blogged for so long without ever knowing this 17 y.o. musician, or his family. His patience and kindness towards me has been so overwhelming, and knowing him has opened my eyes to so many new things. His deep faith has made me want to follow Christ even more, and devote myelf to Him. His great wisdom in music has prevented me from making some horrible mistakes, and also introduced me to some new artists. All in all, he's a terrific guy to hang out with (although I'm never, ever going to care for his lawn again) and I'll always remember him. Thanks, Osprey, for being one of my best friends.
Princess Sarah. This beautiful young lady is one of my first-ever online friends. We met on the Sonlight forums, and she sent me a very warm, welcoming PM on my very first day. Ever since, we've kept in touch, and she's always one to leave an loving, encouraging comment. Every time I read her comments, I feel better about myself. Sarah also has an intimate relationship with her Lord, and I love reading her entries about her faith and insights into the Bible. She's one of the sweetest girls I know, and I love her dearly. Hugs, Sarah!
Kingfisher. Ok, even though he hasn't POSTED IN OVER A MONTH, I believe he deserves this award. Fisher (or, more affectionatly reffered to as "Fishy" or "Gooberboy") has been a very close, supportive friend to me for over a year. His witty humor always keeps me in stitches, and his unwavering loyalty to his friends is truely awesome and amazing. I love you muchly, Little Brother! Don't hurt yourself, drink your milk, and eat your carrots. :)
Monkeyboy. Seriously, this boy does not get enough credit for all he does for HSB. I love it when I log on and find a PM from him, asking me how I am, and if there is any way he can pray for me and my family. His devotion to God is absolutely astounding, and I've learned a lot from reading his blog and talking with him (plus, he's a great dancer!). Thanks, Josh, for being an incredible friend, and I can't wait to meet you - whenever that will be. :)
So it's down to the last award, and this one will be the most special, because it's going to the woman who will constantly keep me laughing, the one who will hug me and tell me she loves me even when I hate the world, the one who has changed my life every day. This award goes to my mom.
TC. I'll admit it, she's my Super Hero. After battling cancer, my dad's numerous surgeries, her own health problems, and three emotional teenagers, she still looks on life with a perspective of "In some situations, you can ether laugh or cry. I prefer to laugh." She has helped me overcome some of the most difficult situations in my life, including friends that have dumped me, my health issues, relationships with my family, and my love for Christ. Together, we laugh until we cry, we cry until we laugh, and we grow ever closer in a beautiful mother/daughter relationship that I know will last forever. Thanks, Mama, for all that you do. I forever remain, your loving Peach.

Jun. 27, 2007 - I should be fired.
As some of you know, I took on a summer nanny-ing job for a family I've known for 6-7 years in May. I live here three days a week, from Sun. night to Wed. night. I teach the kids school, and I make lunch and dinner every day for the work-weary parents. I love these kids like they were my own siblings (and want to lock them in their closets like they were my own siblings), but they're all in all a blast to be around. Plus, The Mom has gotten me hooked on M*A*S*H so I can't really complain about my living situation.
But, I think the parents are rethinking their desicion to hire me.
You see, being the daughter of TC, you can imagine that I'm not exactly material for World's Best Teenage Chef. And I've proved that over and over again when I've had full command in the kitchen. I've burnt spaghetti sauce, and I've made spicy toast (cooking tip: Never - I repeat, NEVER - put spicy meat seasoning on what you suppose to be garlic bread. Your family will be coughing up a storm with tears in their eyes.), and I can even burn water. I'll bet none of you can say the same. However, I had an experience last night I'll never forget...
I was making turkey burgers and mac 'n' cheese. Very easy to make, and takes next to no time. So I got my meat out and was grilling them on the grill in the kitchen (which is next to the stove) when the 10 y.o. Genius asks, "Why is the house full of smoke?" I turn around and sure enough, there's enough smoke to fill not only the kitchen, but the living room, dining room, the upstairs hallway, and the three rooms upstairs. There are smoke detectors going off by this point, and while I'm trying to keep the noodles from burning in the pot, the 4 y.o. Princess is running around underfoot asking when the fire department was going to be there.
>.<
When the mom got home, and smelled the smoke, you wanna know what she did? She double over, dissolving into giggles. I told her with burnt burgers in my hands, "You need to fire me." Miraculously, she decided to keep me. Heaven knows what disaster I'm going to pull next - accidentally, of course.

Jun. 26, 2007 - In High Demand
.... Quit laughing. Of course I'm talking about me!
I've finally figured out HTML. All of it. (Haha, Erin! Now I can beat you with my HTML skills! We shall have a battle! Best template wins! *evil grin*) And now, because of my recently developed geniusness, I've been creating templates for Tracy, Osprey, TC, IceJet, my bro Tyler, and soon Antelope. As you can see, I'm rather impressed with myself...
*gets beat up by TC and head deflates*
But of course I'm sure there's much to learn still... And I'm sure there are many flaws in the templates... And certainly I'm no genius when it comes to computers.... *blocks another blow*
But besides templates, I have something to say.
CONGRATULATIONS Chris for being my 600th commenter! A lifetime supply of Oreos for you!!!
P.S. Since I'm so into links today, everyone go over to The Challenge blog to check out our progress.

Jun. 19, 2007 - Sore gums and street dancing
Yeah... I think my wisdom teeth might be coming in soon... the right corners of my mouth have been hurting for days. Let's hope that it doesn't take them that much longer.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So on Saturday I went to a sort of cowboy bananza. While I was there, I read my 1st place cowboy poem out loud. That was kinda cool... some people actually liked it. O_o I saw a friend I haven't seen in forevah, and my mom bought a ring. So it was a fun day, but then it started to rain and we went home. Later that night, there was a street dance, so I begged my mom to take me and we went together - she wore her cowboy boots and I wore my sneakers. xD There were a few really cute older couples dancing, and then a couple girls trying to master the Texas Two-Step (Mom laughed out loud at that one. She told me that she and my dad would go dancing every weekend, so she knew what she was doing. I never thought I would have a mom who could dance.). But there was no one for me to dance with! Where were all my guy friends when I needed them? Fisher? Osprey? Bassguy? CHRIS???
So, I just went out and danced by myself, with myself. Literally. I held my arms out like there was a boy in between them and danced my heart out. There was, uh, a lot of head shaking. My mom was in stitches the whole time from laughing at me, but most of the other folks were staring at me like I had grown a second head. I guess that's because I'm more of a rocker than a country belle. *shrug*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Sunday, I went for a nice 8 hour drive to take my sister to camp. 4 hours there, 4 hours back. I had to go, because when my mom and I got back into town, she was going to take me to the airport, and then to my nanny job. So there wasn't really a way out of it. But it was actually kind of nice. Our van has a DVD player in it, so I watched some movies, talked to Bassguy and Osprey for a while, and even went shopping.
Which reminds me, next time I post, I'll show pictures of my new wardrobe. I got big brown baggy pants (say that 5 times fast), 5 tank tops in all different colors, schweet new shoes, and a new bag. Oh, and a sort of short-sleeved sweatshirt.... I look like a skater girl. O_o I never thought I'd be so in style.... it's nice.
...... the end.... ?

Jun. 18, 2007 - Surprise, surprise...
So yeah... Osprey finally came home from a too-long vacation, and I'm happy again. His plane got in late last night, and I was there to see him. He had no idea I was going to be there, and I pushed it, saying "I wish I was there to see you, and greet you," and he was like "Yeah, me too... I'll see you soon." He even called me from the plane once he landed, telling me he arrived ok. xD Needless to say, I was in the airport, hiding behind a pillar, laughing my head off.
So when he walked in he went over to greet his family and I ran up behind him and gave him a huge hug. My mom said that his eyes got bigger than saucers. In other words, he totally freaked out, and then got a huge grin on his face when he saw it was me. xDDD Mission accomplished.

Jun. 12, 2007 - Happy Feet: The Opinion of a 10 y.o.
If anyone reading my blog has read any articles about the movie Happy Feet, by any number of critics, you will know that in the general public it was not warmly invited. What was assumed to be a cute kid's movie, was turned into a dark, very unwelcoming, liberal film that not even adults should watch. The plight of the main character, Mumble, the zero-to-hero of the story, encounters feelings like depression, and insanity, which, in a PG-rated movie (for mild peril and rude humor [!]), should not be included.
However, the critics failed to mention what the younger generation thinks of this movie, and now, we turn to my recent discussion with a very intelligent 10 y.o. named Andy. Andy is going into 5th grade this year, and is a LOTR lover and dives into books of all sorts, so he knows his literature. Plus, in his words, he "knows what a good movie looks like, and that wasn't it." So here's the discussion that went on yesterday afternoon at the dinner table over some mac 'n' cheese.
~
Me: So what did you think of Happy Feet? I saw that you have it in the movie cupboard.
Andy: Well! I didn't like it at all!
Me: Oh? Why not?
Andy: Well, for one, it was NOT a movie that I would have let my little sister (who is 4 y.o.) watch, because the main character, Mumble, wasn't a good singer, and this influenced my younger siblings to think that they weren't good singers ether. My brother likes to imitate the heros of storys, and my sister likes to imitate my brother, so when they were both imitating Mumble, who was depressed, it wasn't a good thing.
Me: He was depressed? Why was he depressed? Tell me about Mumble and Happy Feet, in your own words.
Andy: Well, for one, Mumble is kinda a dork. He was born unable to sing, and he prefered to dance. Because of this, the other penguins didn't like him because he couldn't sing. He fell in love with a girl penguin, but he couldn't have her because she could sing and he couldn't. So I think this makes kids think that they can't do things that won't be accepted in public. So meanwhile, the penguins have a fish shortage, for whatever reason. And they find out that it's the aliens - which are humans - that are taking all the fish. So Mumble goes after the humans to tell them that they were taking all of the fish and the penguins were starving to death. On his adventure, he runs into a sea lion and a few Tex-Mex penguins that were very rude and vulgar to the sea lion - but they adored Mumble. They teased the sea lion mercilessly about his slowness, and then called him a bad name, and I don't think that's very good for a kids' movie.
Me: So what happens next?
Andy: They are going back to the city to talk to a wise penguin called Lovelace, who has met with "great spirits," through his mind - as if it's telepathy. Mumble thinks he is very wise, so he asks Lovelace about the missing fish. Lovelace didn't know, because Lovelace is a lier. So then, Mumble set out with the Tex-Mex penguins to go back to the large penguin clan to tell them what Lovelace said, and the other penguins aren't happy about Mumble's return. Mumble tried to trick Gloria (the penguin he was in love with) to love him back. Gloria gets mad at him for lying to her, so Mumble left again.
Me: So, so far, we have penguins who lie, critisize, have bad language, and depression problems... alrighty, then. Go on.
Andy: So then, Mumble set off to find the humans again, and before he gets there, he runs into Lovelace again, who's next to a puddle that is really polluted, and is choking to death with a plastic six-pack ring around his neck. Mumble eventually frees Lovelace, and chases the humans again. Soon though, he gets caught and is sent to a zoo, where he runs mad. Like insane! I really don't think that my siblings should have seen anyone insane. It made them think that it could happen to them, and I don't like that. Insanity should NOT be displayed on a kids movie.
Me: Wow... so then what?
Andy: Well, Mumble managed to convince the humans by dancing to take them back to Antarctica to his family. And of course, the other penguins didn't want him there, and wanted him to leave. So afterwards there's a big argument about if the penguins should stay and fish there, or leave. And they chose to leave. The End. Oh, and Gloria and Mumble eventually got together, I think, but I don't remember. The End.
Me: O_O Wow... some story... I like your opinions. Most adults didn't really think about what kids thought of Happy Feet, just what they thought.
Andy: Yeah, I think they should get kids opinions of a kids movie. It works better that way.
~
So there you have it. What is observed by adults as a liberal, dark, anti-Christian film, is actually displayed in almost a worst view by the kids. If even kids don't like a kid movie, then it shouldn't be on the shelves. As Andy said, this movie was full of stuff kids shouldn't see, like depression, bad language, insanity, and simply a bad story line - plus bad quality, he says.
So the moral of this story is, let the kids decide before you purchase the movie. And let the kids be the critics for kid movies.

Jun. 6, 2007 - Amazing what 5 mo. of new life can do to you...
I for one have never had such a start to the year before in my whole 15 years of living. Yeah, things were rough at first, but you'll never believe how good life is now.
~
For one, I love jeans shopping. xD For anyone who's read my blog in the last few months, you'll know that I used to hate it. Probably because I walked out of the store with size 12 jeans. Well, guess where I am now! SIZE 8, peoples! That's right! I went down 4 sizes in just a few months. Another one of my constant praises to God... And you'll never guess what happened. Mom and I went shopping in Gap. We each found a pair of jeans. And they were the same jeans we walked out with. =D It rocked my sox off...
~
Also, I've met a couple of life-changing people. They're both the kind of people who just do that to you - and you never forget them. And amazingly, they were both from the internet. xD One of them was Osprey. You all know him. Well, he's grown into one of the awesomest friends a girl (or anybody) could have. He always calls, just to see what mood I'm in and then cheer me up if I'm down. Don't know how I made it without you, Oz. (And by the way, you need to talk to Tyler. He won't let me practice on his guitar. xD)
The other person is Bassguy. I've known him online for over a year and a half, and finally met him in real life a week and a half ago. That was the best 1 1/2 days I've had for a l-o-n-g time. And this next part may scare you all - he's like the male version of me. I swear, it's like my brain in a guys body. O.o His mom freaked out and stayed away from us the whole time. I think she was a little scared of seeing a girl so much like her crazy son that it overwhelmed her a wee bit.... So now I talk to Bassguy all the time, and like I said, we're positively twins. It's crazy, and I love it. =D
~
Another thing happened.... I began to love my writing. I've written several poems and songs now, that truly show my heart in ink. Granted, not all of them are particularly happy, or even hopeful, but even so, getting my brain on paper is a huge highway marker for me. And I dunno, these last five months made it suddenly click, and I was able to form everything into words. That's partially why I feel so good now, I suppose...
~
So there you have it.
As I think some of you knew, I was *cough* away for two weeks, and today I was allowed to get back on and renew some friendships. And repay some comments I know I owe.... I am in serious debt... sorry, guys. It won't happen again. :)
~
See you on the way side! Much love,
Emma
