BUSY, BUSY

We are busy, busy. Cleaning top to bottom, room by room decluttering . I found all my missing socks under Alyvia's bed...  Hmm does that solve the mystery of the sock monster?  She used to take all her socks off when eating at the table, she hasn't done that in a while, looks like she takes them off in her sleep?  I plan to have it all clean and organized by the end of summer so we can start school fresh.

I did not do this in the last 2 yrs, I used to do it 2-3 times a year! The last 2 yrs have been alot of change and craziness ...so basic cleaning was about all I accomplished. Now I hope to get back to normal or at least 1x a year.

My desk is organized and pretty again, the filing cabinet is another story... I am a bit scared to tackle that one, I may wait till Jon is off ,he thrives on organizing things. He actually can oraganize for an entire week and not get sick of it. I need a break after a couple of hours! He can help me when I get to frusterated.

I am learning all I can from Cindy Rushton and her wonderful website. I think I am almost ready for the next year.

I made meals easy by creating a 5 week menu that I just rotate. I got these wonderful sheets for planning from Cindy and I made menus based on things we all love and a few new recipes( I figure we can try them now and if we like them keep them or replace them before school starts). So far we are on week 4 and have loved every minute of it. I do not have to think, I copy my master shopping list, cross out what I already have plenty of, and head to the store. At meal and snack times, no thinking again! I just flip open my book and  WALA, it tells me what to fix. I love it! No Stress!   I took a 3 ring binder and put all my menus in plastic sleeves, then added master shopping lists for 2 weeks at a time, with each shopping list I put all the recipes for that two weeks.  So I never have to get out my cookbooks, everything I need is right there in my book. I love it! On the 5th week I also added the recipes that I make in bulk to freeze ( baked french toast, quiche, muffins), and my bread and granola recipes. I have to make bread each week, but that is ok.   Thank You Cindy for your inspiration, meal planning is no longer stressful. I love to cook, but having 4 kids I find that some days the last thing I want to think about is cooking-Eggs for dinner anyone?  DId I mention that I love it?

So anyway, you are all probably curious how things are going with the kids. The birth mom's rights  will be terminated next week. They are working on getting the father's rights terminated and the judge put a deadline for having the case closed by the 2nd week of Sept.  All I  can say is it does not seem real, we have been waiting almost 2 yrs.  You might have to pinch me after it is all done. Jon's parents are planning to come up for the final event.  The GAL ( kids lawyer) wants to come by and meet them sometime soon. He has not met them all this time. I like him he is a nice guy.   Alyvia understands and is so excited, she was beaming when I told her it was getting closer. The other 2 do not understand, they are to young.

My grandma gave the girls prarie bonnets for xmas and Omar a coon skin cap. So they played "Pioneers" and Omar was of course " Daniel Boone". They have not played that in a while, but for the last 2 months Omar has decided his name is not  Omar but Daniel, and he will correct  you if you call him Omar. We wanted to change his name anyway, but were not sure how to go about it. Looks like he did it for us. We like the name and think it is hilarious that he is so adamant he is not Omar.

Dad is doing so much better, we went and saw him this weekend and were pleased to see how well he is progressing. Still slower than he would like, but he has come so far. Praise God! All the medical professionals he talks to tell him it is a miracle he is alive. Well, That is what we prayed for.

That is all for now. More adventures to come I am sure.

My Crazy Life!

Boy the last few weeks have really been crazy around here. My dad had to have emergency surgery because the surgeon punctured his colon on the first surgery. Yikes, had he been discharged as the doctor was planning on doing till my mom insisted something was wrong and made the doc check him out, he would not be here today! We spent two weeks in CS living in my MIL's basement ( they were just moving in and it was crazy!) I am a fan of small towns and boy our desert home never looked so good.It has been a crazy exhausting ride, but he is doing well just extremely weak. On top of all that he has been flooded with nurses that are either to busy to do their job right, or do not care, or do not know how, we are not sure which.  With the lack of proper care from the nurses he got two major infections. UGHHH! We are praying like crazy that he will be able to go home soon.

In light of all this we decided to end the school year early, Naomi was finished with all of her work except math and we were just doing  extra things. I think that she can just catch up in the fall. I am making her work on her multiplication fact puzzles and violin, and we are doing a lapbook on Grandpa George's Life, I eventually want her to do one on each of her grandparents. She called him last week and interviewed him, she was sooo nervous. HEHE! But that is all for school. I think I need the break more than she does.

I learned that it is so important to visit the sick, take meals to families of the sick, clean their house.... I have made meals for others before, but I did not realize how special it is to have a friend poke their smiling face into a hospital room. Or be so exhausted and not know what to make for dinner or when would you ever get the energy to clean your house. Even just watching someones kids for a few hours while they rest or take care of whatever... Is so wonderful. Maybe everyone else is more in tune with things like this than I apparently was. I never visited anyone at  the hospital except immediate family, but I was so blessed to see the faces of those I have loved for years. To hear their prayers and recieve their hugs. That is what we are meant to do. Comfort the sick. I did not know what the meant. I would pray for people, or watch kids if someone had to run to emergency room. All the people who watched my kids, made meals, cleaned my kitchen and living room ( we left in the middle of the night and believe me it was a disaster.) what a huge blessing they have been.  I am sure I am not the only one out there to busy to think about things like this, but I hope that you will be encouraged to take the time to mail a card, stop and visit a sick friend, make a meal, watch the kids, check the mail, clean the house ... the next time you have  a friend or relative in need. I know I will.

Home again, home again jiggity-jig

We just got back yesterday  from visiting my parents. My dad had surgery to remove a tumor on the tail of his pancreas. It was a low grade malignancy so they had to take half of his pancreas and his spleen. Thankfully it was not worse. Had the tumor been at the top it would have been much worse. We are still waiting on lab results to know what the next steps will be.

The older I get the scarier life seems. When I was in my 20's life was fun and crazy and I thought it would keep getting easier and better. But I am finding that it keeps getting harder, more challenging. I have to rely on God more each year. He must think I can handle the challenge because each year seems to have new and more difficult challenges.  Thankfully He is our peace and strength in times of trouble.

Took a couple of days but we are unpacked and almost all of the laundry is caught up. The kitchen only had a mild tornado run through it. We managed to get in school today as well! Tomorrow will be much easier, I will not feel overwhelmed by all the stuff to do.

Does anyone else have school in the dining room? Our house is very open and sometimes this is a bad thing. I see so much that has to be done and it distracts me from getting any school done. I wonder if it would be a good idea to just have a room dedicated to  school only shut off from the rest of the house. I love the open feel of my house except with regards to school and many little hands. Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful. I see all the work to be done and feel overwhelmed but with 4 little ones, it seems almost impossible to keep clean everyday.
