This morning, my wife woke me up in a panic. Our 3 year-old daugther has suddenly gone ashen and her lips were purplish-white. Her color reminded my wife of how baby Ryan looked just before he passed away almost a year ago. After she read about
Leo Akin and his first son's undiagnosed restrictive cardiomyopathy, I'm sure you can understand why she might have panicked.
I got that burst of adrenaline that dads usually reserve for lifting cars off of crushed victims and I was wide awake. I confirmed my wife's observations, but something somewhere in my history as a dad, I remembered that lips are one thing, but check the fingernails too. They were nice and pink, and pink is great. In a few minutes, she was back to normal, with the exception of complaining about a tummy ache. We figure she had a stomach cramp that made her blanche, like I do with the stomach flu.
Scared us real good, but she's been fine the rest of the day. Thank you, God, for wisdom and watchfulness.
Very scary indeed! Glad all is now well in the Walden household...
My kids have been real boogers today-- fighting, whining, fighting, crying, fighting...driving me absolutely insane. But seeing as I am kind of attached to the little guys, thinking about losing them or them becoming ill makes me want to cry. So I'll go give them a big hug and kiss and then send them to bed early because they DEFINITELY need a "do-over" on their day! And so do I!
Thanks for the reminder that they are God's and on loan to me only for a season...
