Years of Academy Training...Wasted!
Posted in Homeschooling
Gena's been doing
an interview/guest appearance with Joel Turtel, author of
Public Schools, Public Menace. In this latest post, Turtel talks about how according to John Gatto, a child can learn reading and basic math in 100 hours, and he wonders what else could be filling up 12 years of training. What indeed.
By the way, 186 school days in a year x 12 years x 10 hours a day = 22,320 hours, making 100 hours 0.045% of the time spent in school.

I thought you might like this. I did some figuring, and I posted it on my blog. http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/humpty/166974/
If the ave. American (Christians included) produce 1.8 children and 88% of children from church-going families leave the church after age 18...
How many Christians does it take to produce a child that remains in the faith?
Five families!
(I know that homeschoolers ave. more than 1.8 and less than 88% leave, but it is still a national and spiritual tragedy that needs addressing in the churches and families.)

Good point. The only place that I question is twelve years to learn basic reading and math. I would point out that anything after 7th or 8th grade for most students isn't basic anymore. And just how many concepts from advanced vocabulary do most parents want to have to explain to their grade school aged children? This has more to do with character, mental ability, and even the maturity and core beliefs of the parent than it does a statistic.
