I found this quote cited in a book I'm reading called
Raising A Modern-Day Knight by Robert Lewis.
Wise societies provide ample means for young men to affirm themselves without afflicting others.- George Gilder, Men and Marriage
It's a fact that most violent crime is committed by men. Prisons for men far outnumber women's correctional facilities. Additionally, far more men in society struggle for their identity than women. "Who am I?" "What is my purpose?" etc. Men are looking for a way to assert, "This is who I am. This is my purpose." The problem is that so many men are asserting these things in a negative, destructive way.
The turning point, I believe, starts with fathers training their sons. But more importantly, fathers have to grasp for themselves what a positive masculine vision is. I still don't have the whole vision, but I think this book might help.
Dh started reading that book a while ago and really like it. Definitely doable for a non-reader...short chapters and interesting material.
Hmmm...I don't remember him ever mentioning actually finishing the book though...I'll have to ask him about that.
Let us know what other invaluable nuggets you find!

I hadn't thought of violent criminal behavior in this way. I'm looking forward to getting a copy of this book. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, fathers must train their sons. How many though were raised in homes where their mother wore the pants, and fathers were little seen? Then their sons are faced with women who demand equality as well as being begged to be more feminine in their thinking. It is no wonder they are angry and lash out.
