"Ai-ee!" is an expression of pain. It also is the abbreviated name of a web browser which is used by 2/3 of this blog's current audience. Needless to say, "Ai-ee!" is also uttered by people like me who discover that their page displays poorly in IE because it's a less-capable browser in interpreting table and image attributes. This is not my only gripe about Microsoft, but it is the latest.
This "Ai-ee!" moment came about when a user who was browsing my blog with IE6 using 800x600 resolution told me they were scrolling trying to read my entries...and getting dizzy. Thanks to her feedback, I found the problem and corrected it, using a very... Microsoft... approach: I simply made the image unscaleable. When in doubt, remove features and functionality! That's the Microsoft way.
Maybe they'll fix this in IE7...yeah, I know... don't hold your breath.
On a side note, for those who want a browser that does everything except load Windows Media Player and a few other proprietary plug-ins, I highly recommend Mozilla's Firefox. It's free, it allows tabbed browsing, and gives you an integral Search Engine bar. I love using the bookmark toolbar "Open all in tabs" to load a series of pages quickly. For those of you who don't know what tabbed browsing is, Mozilla Firefox eliminates the start bar clutter that IE causes by opening new windows for every page you want to view separately. Instead of opening a new window, it shows tabs at the top of the browser window that you can flick through. I'm hooked on it because I can open one window with my blog front end, my blog back end, my e-mail and my site meter all in one collection of tabs with only two clicks. One to open the window, the next to click on the bookmark folder with the collection of bookmarked pages to "open in tabs." If I want to surf or do something else, I can open a new window just like in IE, with no concerns about losing track of what I'm doing in the other 4 tabs in the other window. I have 2 windows open, but I may be looking at as many as 30 pages altogether. It just works better for keeping things organized.
I read it. I sorta understand it. But I don't know how to keep the wide window thing to turn back to normal on my page. It's normal right now but later it may not be. *sigh* Oh well. As far as Mozilla, I don't like change. Quit pushing me to change. Aaahhhhh...er...aaaaaiiiiieeeeee... I'm not sure about Mozilla/Firefox, it seems that if there is ever a problem, they are dealt with separately...or maybe they're the problem?...either way, I'm not making any sense...I just need my coffee and my vacation and then I'll be back to "normal". In the meantime, I'll scroll over on my blog if necessary. Oh, is the wide page problem related to the problem of the body of the blog being partly cut off by the sidebar?
I know. I am making no sense. Don't worry. I'll comment again next weekend when we get back in town. In the meantime, pretend I wasn't here. You never read any of this blabber, okay?
We've used Mozilla Firefox for a long time now - my husband says that most viruses target Ai-ee (as you put it) and he doesn't want me to use it anymore. However, I did find to my dismay that my blog displayed differently on the two browsers. Ronda at RugbyHS helped me fix the problems.
Great word of advice.
