Simple Pleasures
Posted in Homeschooling
This morning was cold and rainy, so we decided to homeschool by the fire. There's something soothing about a warm fire with its pops and snaps. The dry heat also helps my back. The kids enjoyed it too. We'll have to do this more often.

Oh my! I love a real fire. Although a gas fireplace is more ocnvenient with a flip of a switch, no wood to collect, no soot mess to clean up, there is just something about real wood burning that is pleasing to the senses. I hope to make more fires this winter in the fireplace. And hopefully I will remember to open the flue! LOL. I am looking for the post on your blogline type of website. I am having trouble with bloglines and think I may look into something different.

What I love about a wood fire in the fireplace is that it's organic. It's uneven and has it's own flavor and feel. You flick on a gas fireplace and you get blue/yellow flames that are the same all the time. No smoke smell, no crackle and snap. I'll take the mess of a wood fire over the sterile gas log anyday.
The bloglines post...the bloglines post...I've done a couple, but not directly mentioning bloglines. Someone else mentioned bloglines in their comments. I also posted on Google Reader here and in my FAQ here.

I must shamedly admit that we use those clean-burn logs in our schoolroom. It's just so EASY to light that wrapper and then the perfectly shaped pre-formed log burns so nicely!
I think this year will be different, though, since we cut a few trees down this year.
We love to warm up a (rare) chilly morning with a cozy fire. And then around 10am we take a break from our lessons to roast marshmellows! The kids LOVE it and so do I! Especially since it totally breaks the rule of no "treats" ever until after lunch.
