Michael Smith, HSLDA On National Education
Posted in Homeschooling
Michael Smith, president of
HSLDA, came out with
a great Op-Ed in the Washington Times. A well reasoned and common sense approach, I hope it doesn't fall on deaf ears.
When has nationalization ever solved more problems than it creates? If we think we've got problems with education, nationalization will make it worse, not better. It will consolidate power and remove local control. Don't like what your child is learning? You won't be able to take it up with the school board. They won't really be able to do anything. Instead, you'll be writing your congressman about yet another issue. Congress can't even tie its shoes without a bill and four or five committees. No thank you. Instead, parents need to work on a local and state level to improve their children's chances at success by wresting power from the NEA and other unions that don't see anything wrong with today's education system.
And if the parent really wants to see their child soar, they'll look into homeschooling.

Hi Steve, I am trying Newsgator online. I cannot add a feed. Do you have any idea how to do that. I click add feeds and then need to type the URL into the box, but with HSB blogs I cannot add it. It says try again. Help-
Thanks,
Susan
I'm not sure why Newsgator isn't taking the RSS feeds. I've never used it before. Can you add it to another feed reader? The only time I've experienced a failure to accept is when I've typed the URL wrong. Try copying and pasting the URL? Right click on the RSS link and choose copy shortcut, then paste the link in the blank on newsgator.
