I found this going through my old files and
I still thought it was really good, so I decided to put it up here.
It's a poem called My Daddy Prays For Me.
My Daddy Prays for Me
When Daddy prays the house gets still his voice is slow and deep We shut our eyes, the clock ticks loud so quiet we must keep.
When Daddy prays he doesn't use the words the preacher does. He prays for lots of different things, but mostly it's for us.
His prayers get awful long sometimes and hard to understand. So I just wiggle up quite close and let him hold my hand.
I can't remember all of it; I'm little yet, you see. But there's one thing I can't forget: My daddy prays for me.

Your children may not remember
anything you pray for. They might not even remember how long you pray.
But they certainly remember how often you pray for them. One good time
to pray over them is when you tuck them in bed. That's usually how I do
it.
More importantly, we all need to remember that we are in a war. The
enemy whispers things that he knows will eat away at the truth in our
children. The lies of "You're not good enough," "Your dad hates you.
Why else would he yell at you?" and the ever present, "You're too (fill
in the blank)," corrode the souls of our children until they learn to
identify the lies and stand up for themselves. Use prayer to reinforce
the truth in their lives.
More Ideas:
If they did something good that day, tell God how proud you are they did it when you pray over them.
Pray for good days, good dreams, protection and ministry to their spirits while they sleep.
Pray that God will bring out the gifts he's given to your children.
Pray scripture.
Phil 4:7 - And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Rom 8:1 - Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus
1 John 4:4 - You, dear children, are from God and have
overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one
who is in the world.
Pray that the new things God wants to do in the world would come through them.
Most importantly, listen for a response from God. Watch, wait and
listen for the Lord to speak and move in your child's life. You may be
wonderfully surprised with the results!
And my grandfather's. Granddad was a Presbyterian minister who got in a serious car accident around the time I was born. He suffered some brain damage, and his speech was always slow and his sentences were short... until he started praying. There was no damage to the part of him that spoke to God! He prayed for each one of us, by name and at length. He prayed, among other things, for "safe travel" for every member of the family.
None of us EVER had a car wreck--and he had 7 sons and 20 grandchildren--until after he died. And then it seemed like each one of us had to crack up a different car...
That's so amazing! I'm really encouraged by your comments, Somerschool. I endeavor to be a praying father and grandfather. I desperately want more fathers to pray out there. If they did, it's mind-boggling to think of the changes that would come about!
If you think to, drop me a line sometime at stevewalden@yahoo.com . I would love to dialog some more about this.
