I like Mark Steyn. I am looking forward to reading his book on our next school break. Right now, I'm deep into Ancient Mesopotamia. I never learned this stuff the first time around, so I'm really enjoying our books this year.

I so love someone who can say it like it is!
I think you're right. Fundamentalist Islam is an absolutely huge threat, and it's compounded by demographics and by the West's inability to see it for the threat that it is.
You know what really astounds me? When you start studying history with your kids, you realize how rare and fragile democracy really is. America is a "young" country, but it's actually a very old one if you consider constitutions. It's older than any European country. Their experiments with democracy are much more modern in nature than America's. And the French Revolution bore very little resemblance to the American one. No rule of law. No concept of true liberty. No religious freedom, at least for a while.
True freedom is rare in this world. It isn't something that we will necessarily always have, unless we fight for it. And I hope that the world realizes that before it's too late.
