No apologies for three posts in a day. I'm making up for lost time.
Ever since my firstborn was diagnosed with a heart defect, I've understood that my children are not my own but God's. God is the only one who can fully protect their lives.
It is perhaps a father's darkest fear, one that surfaces in a cold sweat in the middle of the night. To have a child die and not be able to do anything is probably more than any father could bear. But Leo Akin, a dad like you and me, was thrust into such a situation. His son died in his arms, a victim of a heart disorder called "restrictive cardiomyopathy." Then, unbelievably, his second son died from the same illness at nearly the same age. Now, their 5 year-old baby boy has it. But there's hope for 5 year-old Leighton. He has a hard road ahead. His whole family does. But there is hope. Please click here to read their story, and if God leads you to, use the site to help them with their medical costs.
