Redstone, Colorado is a beautiful little town tucked away near Glenwood Springs and Aspen.
My wife and I were up there our first year and stopped several of the
shops. In one, there was an ornament that looked really good and the
shopkeeper offered to inscribe it for us. It became our first family
ornament. The next year and the next, we picked up Christmas ornaments
to celebrate our years together and commemorate our Christmases
together. The fourth Christmas, we got two: one for the family and one
for our new firstborn baby. The tradition expanded to include all of
our children.
Today, I will take my
children down to Hallmark and find a Christmas ornament for each of
them. Its an investment we would only have been able to afford this
year because of a generous gift from a family weve never known. Im so
grateful, because I would have hated to break this tradition.
When
my children leave home years from now, it will be hard to part with
those ornaments because Im getting attached to them, but I want them
to take with them the memories of so many Christmases with their
family. I want them to treasure them with fondness and carry it forward
to my grandchildren.
My kids love to ask about and talk about the various ornaments on the tree as well. Some are bought, some have been gifts, and others have been homemade. :-) It really is fun to talk about the different times in our lives, especially the birth of each child.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
