Fighting the Web
Posted in Around the House
After fighting for most of the day to
get online, I have finally made it! I will be working on getting my
last portion of the Bringing Up Boys In A Feminized World in a few
minutes.
Don't try this, but did you know that if you hold up a really strong magnet up to your CRT monitor, it makes a
really cool
plasma effect? The problem is, even if it's only there for a second, it
leaves a huge blotch on your screen. My son now owes me a new monitor.
Let's see, at 3 dollars a month, he should be able to pay off the
monitor in 6 years or so. Until then, I have a huge purple and green
bruise on my monitor.
Enough of my whining. Time to get some work done.

I have been clicking around your blog finding lots of good stuff! Thanks for the RSS/FAQs I have been wondering about RSS and Trackbacks. Maybe I'll get brave with this new info, but I'm still pretty new to all this! Thanks

...it's a good thing I read the rest of the story! I almost went and tried the neat new experiment!
You could have your son do like that one guy did...sell pixels to a web page...of course you wouldn't be able to see all the pixels on your moniter...but...you never know, you might get that monitor with a cool million besides.

No, I did not know that. It's a good thing you got to the point of it though because I have a magnet handy and almost tried it!
Just think though...by the time he has it paid off monitors will be REALLY cheap!

Monday, February 6, 2006 - Don't try this at home

Don't try this at work, either. For the sake of monitors everywhere, I have amended my post slightly.
By the way, if you happen to have tried it already and now you've got a purple splorch--if there's no word for it, make it up!--on your screen, you can buff most of the discoloration away by circulating a slightly weaker magnet further away than the original magnet. This *does NOT* get rid of all of it, but it makes it tolerable until you can convince your spouse that you need a new monitor...a 21 inch flat panel...call it an upgrade.
You might also try degaussing (click the link above).
Next week, we'll go over aluminum foil in microwaves...

Yeah, magnets mess up monitors... AND TELEVISION SETS! The good news, we've seen, is that it's only temporary. Our multiple spots have all disappeared.
Many blessings!
