Curling is an odd sport. Years ago, I would have thought women's curling was done in a hair salon. Now I know that it's probably Scottish in origin. A person slides heavy stones and two others sweep like mad in front of it to get the right distance. It's kind of like team shuffleboard on ice. It's a game of skill, not of strength. It got so popular after the Salt Lake City games in 2002 that our local ice rink had curling targets placed for a curling league. I actually sat and watched it, trying to figure it out. I might actually try it one day, but I'm heavy enough that I'm afraid someone will pick me up by my belt and slide me down toward the other end of the rink.
My favorite events are the luge, skeleton, and men's downhill. Nothing is more thrilling than hurtling down an icy slope with only a couple of runners under you as your guide! Oh, the stories I could tell...
