Evolution From The Pulpit

Posted in Homeschooling

Patricia Ann wonders from her Pollywog Creek Porch if the BBC is joking with the article about the American Association for the Advancement of Science advocating that ministers rebuff intelligent design theories from the pulpit and endorse evolution as the only explanation for life on earth. I wish they were joking, but they aren't.

What's surprising, however, is that scientists are actually involved in the supression of ideas. This seems to be the going problem around America. First teachers, now scientists. It's quite possible that in 200 years, if the human race goes on, that we will be referring to the evolution-only crowd as the ones who put science and knowledge in the dark, all for the love of a theory that doesn't involve a higher power.

What's even more disturbing is the number of churches willing to do it. They don't realize that Genesis is the very basis for their authority. I will restate what I said in the FREE Science eNewsletter from The Old Schoolhouse:

In science, Genesis is crucial to gaining understanding. The two competing theories for the origin of life have vastly different explanations and therefore, significantly different and profound ramifications.

Evolution is accepted at face value as the only explanation for life in the majority of scientific communities. In this realm, man is the result of chaos and chance. As such, he owes creation nothing.

Conversely, Genesis opens up the universe as divinely-breathed order and man, as the offspring of God, is its shepherd and ruler. He owes creation much as its husbandman and caretaker.

Genesis shapes how our children will view the world, and subsequently, their calling and future. If man and material is all there is, as evolution proposes, life loses its purpose and direction. On the other hand, if God has created our universe, we have no choice but to seek out the purpose and design he has made, if only to give glory to the One Who has made it.

What is the point of going to church if God is just some distant being, or worse, doesn't exist at all? Pastors and ministers who follow the lead of the AAAS betray their faith and their very reason for being in the pastorate. Instead, pastors and parents both have a duty to acquaint their charges with evolution, it's holes, and the evidences for intelligent design.

Good post. I'd heard about this but hadn't paid attention till I read your article. Then I followed everything backward, and Wow! I tried to trackback you, but for whatever reason it didn't work. However, I did link to you.

Thanks for another good one, Steve.

We had a conversation about this at dinner the other night. I found an article about all the Pastors who are preaching against "Intelligent Design" from their pulpit and are telling their churches that religion and Science don't mix. My 9, 6 and 5 year olds get it. If God created it, how can you take Him out of it? I just wish some of these pastors got it.
