Volunteer to Pray
Posted in Connecting with God
Yesterday, I wrote that we were
at war. Today, I'm seeking volunteers.
Dandelion Seeds (the SHMILY lady) has made me aware of
someone
who needs our prayers. I don't know if any of you have had a
hospital-sick kid before but let me tell you, it puts a knot in your
gut every time you think of what your child is facing. I've had two of
my three children in the hospital at different times with
life-threatening ailments. Everything goes on hold. Like a smashed
finger, it's all you can think about.
Candace Joy
was a smiling 7 year-old girl who until a few weeks ago was as fine and
healthy as they come. Then a bout of flu-like symptoms and a few tests
by a doctor and they're in the hospital trying to stop an infection in
her abdomen and leg that could claim her life. She will have her 13th
surgery in less than 20 days tomorrow (Sunday 2/26). She is still
smiling, but the stay in a hospital (drugs, surgeries, etc.) is wearing
on her and her family. Spending a month in a hospital is not like
spending a month in life. Inside an institution like that, you don't
have a real grasp of time. A clock and a window can help, but you're
really just counting hours. There is no real rhythm to your life when
you're being checked, poked, prodded, fed, drugged, re-checked, and
changed. Despite medicine's efforts to make hospitals less sterile,
it's a stressful experience. Parents going through it with them
experience the same stress.
Seeing your child wheeled into
surgery is un-nerving. You don't know if something will go wrong or
not. You just know that this could be the last time you see them. It's
terrifying...and it happens every day in hospitals everywhere because
it has to.
Please join with me in praying for Candace and her family. If you feel up to it,
sign up for the vigil held tomorrow. Keep watch like me, a sentry in the Kingdom.

Thanks for praying for Candace tomorrow. I've sent word to her family and will post it on the prayer calendar as well to them know.
I will also be doing this for Emily who is scheduled for her first surgery on Tuesday. May the Lord heal these precious girls and give strength to their parents during this dificult time!
In Him,

I know what you mean about feeling the gut-wrenching pain of seeing a child in the hospital. Mysteriously, two of our daughters fell ill at age six. They spent time in the UCLA ICU, awaiting heart transplants. It's a 1 in 10 million situation; actually the odds of two sisters receiving hearts--three years apart-- is almost astronomical. Shivan and Lindsea are now doing well, but take heavy-duty medication that has high risks, including cancer. I ask for your regular prayers for them.
I am praying for Candace Joy today, see she went through her 13th surgery at 8:45 today. How difficult for her parents, too. They need the strength only God can give to get through each day. I tried to add my name to a timeslot, but see it didn't come through, so I made sure to post a comment in Candace's blog and to write her personally.
Please also keep in prayer identical twin babies, Nick and Nate Draper, hospitalized at UCLA Medical Center. Nick received his heart transplant last week, is slowly getting better. Nate is in serious condition, awaiting a new heart. Go to http://www.nickandnate.org to leave a message of encouragement for the little boys' parents.

Stopping by again to ask if you would please spread the word about Emily's surgery Tuesday morning? I have a prayer list on my blog for anyone who would like to take a specific time to pray as well.
Thanks,

Would you consider praying at 9:30? It's the last time slot I have to fill. I'm not sure how things are going, other than I know she's out of surgery because I had something sent to her. I'm not sure how long she's been out though.
Let me know...
Thanks,
Amy
