We are proud to offer nearly 100 products from Sylvan Dell! They have excellent books for homeschoolers and all children in general. The following is an interview I had with Rob Carli of Sylvan Dell.
Give us a general overview of your company and the products you sell through the Schoolhouse Store.
What we like to emphasize with parents and teachers is that we offer so much more than just a picture book. We have developed a significant amount of value-added, teaching activities and interactive quizzes that are free on our website - if folks want to use them. For parents and teachers wanting to work the science, math and other learning objectives, each book has a 3-5 page educational section in the back. But, that is really just the beginning. . .and our free, online resources are just amazing.

Through the Schoolhouse Store, customers will be able to choose from 35 science and math themed picture books that are both fun to read and educational. The books' subject matter ranges from math concepts to marine animals to habitats, among several others. Of the 35 titles, 29 are available in paperback and all 35 in hardcover. In addition to our 35 titles, Old Schoolhouse carries 32 stuffed animals that are matched to most of the ones found in the books.
Tell us an interesting fact or story about your company.
The Sylvan Dell mission and foundation came from co-owners Lee and Donna German's own homeschooling experience with their three daughters. From 2000-2004, the Germans sailed the Atlantic in their boat, Pegasus, and upon returning, went on a six-month road excursion in their van to zoos, aquariums and national parks throughout the country. While on their four-plus years of travel, the Germans thought that children needed books that taught them about: habitats and wildlife while traveling, and what's beyond their own backyard. With that in mind, Sylvan Dell was born!
How can your products best benefit the homeschooling community?
All of the free, value-added online resources that accompany each book make it fun to teach children about the subject matter they're learning from just about anywhere that has Internet access. The books themselves are just the beginning of what we offer. Parents and their children can listen to free audio in English and Spanish, use teaching activities, use our craft ideas, and much more.
Which of your products are you most excited about?
I'm excited about all of our upcoming 2009 titles, and especially the spring list which features a title about wolves (One Wolf Howls), and another about herons (Henry the Impatient Heron). They'll be available in February and March.
What new items can we expect to see from your company in the next year?
We have 10 new, fantastic titles coming out in both hardcover and paperback with more online resources to come: Paws, Claws, Hands and Feet, Where Should Turtle Be?, Henry the Impatient Heron, Ocean Hide and Seek, One Wolf Howls, What's New at the Zoo?, An Animal Adding Adventure, Countdown to Fall, Baby Owl's Rescue, Mother Osprey: Nursery Rhymes for Buoys and Gulls, and Moose and Magpie.
