Meet Bible Story Songs!
This week I would like to introduce you to the company, Bible Storysongs. We carry nearly 20 of their CDs and E-Books, and they focus on helping children learn the Bible through music. Below is a photo of the songwriters, and following is an interview with Cathy Walker and Paula Taylor.
Give us a general overview of your company and the products you sell through the Schoolhouse Store.
Our desire is to encourage and enable families to sing the Bible together. Singing is a great way to learn. It’s easy! Kids who listen to Bible Storysongs can be found singing them throughout their day! These songs become Bible lessons, and the kids sing them over and over again!
The Old Schoolhouse® sells Bible Storysongs CDs and E-books which include Sheet Music, Song Books and Puzzlepages. We have released six double-length albums. Two volumes on Moses covering his life, two volumes on the book of Matthew, one CD on the Bible, and one on the life of David. We are currently recording our seventh title on the Acts of the Apostles.
Tell us an interesting fact or story about your company.
We discovered that it was easy to write new songs by using great tunes from the public domain. By using familiar tunes it is easier to teach and learn the new songs. It is also easy to find a tune that matches the feeling of the story. It is an interesting fact that this practice of using existing tunes to write spiritual songs is well documented in Biblical and church history.
Some who are used to more contemporary music may be turned off by our simple and basic approach. We are not trying to make original or awesome music. The music is not our goal. It is an effective means to convey the Bible story. If you listen to the CDs several times, the common sounding music becomes sweet and the story is yours forever.
How can your products best benefit the homeschooling community?
Most of the Bible Storysongs singers are from homeschool families who have told us that they enjoy listening to our music throughout their day, during study time, play time, or while doing chores. It offers a refreshing break from regular studies, and yet it is also educational!
Which of your products are you most excited about?
We are most excited about the music itself. Our upcoming CD, The Acts of the Apostles, has 23 amazing storysongs that will educate, thrill, and inspire us all to speak to others. Unique, new, and singable Storysongs are why we started this business and they continue to be why we are still growing this business!
What new items can we expect to see from your company in the next year?
Early this summer the Acts CD and E-Sheet Music will be released. We will begin recording our eighth CD (Daniel) in fall 2009. We also anticipate the release of a new web site and blog this summer.
