Planning and Upcoming Holidays

Can you believe that it is October already? The older I get the faster time seems to fly. Soon the holidays will be upon us and life will get busier than it already is, if that is even imaginable. One way I keep myself organized is by planning ahead. I have a home manager binder that I try to keep up to date with goals, schedules, and other information to keep my family on track. In my manager I keep a calendar of events and many lists of information that are ready at the turn of the page. I keep a set of menus that I rotate throughout the months, a gift buying wish list with information for each person I will be buying for, chore schedules with monthly reminders, and many other holiday planning lists to help me keep on top of things. I also keep other important and helpful information in my binder so that I am not hunting the house for it. I keep things like important phone numbers and addresses, miscellaneous medical information, and budgeting and inventory lists. I keep a separate binder for all our school records including our year’s goals, a resource list of the books we are using, and a four year plan for my son’s high school years.

It has taken me quite a while to put all this information together and in the past I had created my own forms. But last year I received the Schoolhouse Planner and it became so much easier to get the information where I wanted it. Now I just type my information into the interactive PDF forms, print them out and add them to my binders as I need. This year’s planner has so many more new useful forms and I have used many of them to update information. All the effort it has taken to gather this information has so been worth it. I now have everything in one place and ready to use when I need it.

From now until the end of October, when you purchase the 2009 Schoolhouse Planner you will receive a special bonus E-Book: Homespun Holidays: Fall and Winter, absolutely FREE at checkout! This beautiful e-book, $12.45 if purchased separately, is filled with beautiful projects you can make now to beautify your home for the holidays. There are recipes, gift ideas, inspirational stories and poems, and more. You are sure to find something to add flavor to your home.

And right now you can order the 2009 Schoolhouse Planner on CD for only $29, regularly $44, and get the bonus E-Book: Homespun Holidays: Fall and Winter absolutely FREE at checkout! You save a huge $27.45. What a deal!

And don't forget to check out all the bargains on the 2009 Planner and Module combinations.

There’s one more special offer that you won’t want to miss out on; The TOS BOGO Friendship Subscription. Purchase the special TOS BOGO Friendship Subscription (US subscriptions only) to The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine  for $39 and get one for a friend for FREE! Can you believe that? Your two (2) year subscriptions begin with the Winter issue but your friend will also get the current fall issue in their mailbox as a special bonus. AND you both get the fantastic 19 FREE gifts!  A gigantic value of over $885 for $39! What a wonderful gift of encouragement and support to give to a special homeschool buddy!

As you can see, the holidays don’t have to overwhelm or overrun you. The tools to make this season the most organized, inspirational, and successful are waiting for you at the Schoolhouse Store.

Sharing the Love of Music

“Music speaks what cannot be expressed,
Soothes the mind and gives it rest,
Heals the heart and makes it whole,
Flows from heaven to the soul.”
(Source unknown)

I love music, all kinds of music. Ever since I was a little girl it has filled my life with joy. My parents often tell tales of how when I was very young I would go around the house singing all the time and I still do that today. In second grade I learned how to play the recorder and was hooked on the creativity it allowed me to express. I began taking guitar lessons soon afterward and having that skill has helped me express myself in ways that words simply cannot. Who can take a long drive and hear a familiar tune on the radio and not sing along whether out loud or in their heads? Music fills our lives. In the stores where we shop, the offices we visit, the movies that we watch, or the walk through the woods as the sound of nature harmonizes with our steps, music is everywhere. It provokes our emotions and calls us to respond in ways no other median does.

I have tried to teach my children to have the same appreciation of music as I have. This week until September 18th, the Schoolhouse Store is having a sale on many valuable tools to aid in the teaching of music. Save with such vendors as Music Academy, Praise Hymn, Steve Sensenig, eMedia Music Corp, Clark/Halloran Music, Songs 4 Teachers, AustralianPianoMeth/Simply Music, Edutunes.com, Jean Welles Worship Guitar and The Old Schoolhouse Magazine. With savings up to 50% on your favorite products, you are sure to find something to help you give your family the gift of music.

Homeschool with a Preschooler? Yes, You Can.

As a mom of a 23-year old, 15-year old and a 12-year old, I can honestly say, “Children grow up so fast”. I remember the chasing-down-the-toddler days and the pan clanging serenades. I also remember wondering how in the world I was going to keep these young ones occupied constructively so I could attend to the things that needed attention without sitting them in front of the electronic babysitter. I loved spending time playing and exploring the world with my children but there were times when I didn’t think I was going to have the stamina to keep up with their Energizer Bunny natures.  Does any of this sound familiar? How do you keep your preschooler busy and happy? The Old Schoolhouse Store has some insight that they would love to share with you. In our newest e-book, Creating a Rich Environment and a Fun Place to Learn for Preschoolers, the authors have gathered all the best ideas for activities and organizational support in one place. Making your preschooler’s world one of excitement and learning just got a little easier. Filled with insight, inspiration, and clever creativity, Creating a Rich Environment and a Fun Place to Learn for Preschoolers has all the bases covered. Written by folks just like you who have come up with solutions to the sometimes frustrating task of keeping an energetic preschooler out of trouble and flourishing, this book is a must have for homes with little ones.

Another awesome resource for parents with young ones is Activity Bags’ E-Book: Preschool Activities in a Bag, Book 1. I sure wish I knew about this great book when I had preschoolers at home. It would have totally ended the “what interesting things can I do with them today” questions. Loaded with detailed instructions on how to put together fun and educational activities, this e-book helps you be ready for those aimless moments of boredom and mischief.

Right now if you purchase Creating a Rich Environment and a Fun Place to Learn for Preschoolers and Activity Bags' E-Book: Preschool Activities in a Bag, Book 1 you can get ourWeE-book™- Homeschooling With Young Children absolutely free loaded with more inspiring ideas to make homeschooling with your preschooler a memorable experience. (You’ll need to put those 3 items individually into your cart and use the coupon code- FREEPREWEE )

And The Schoolhouse store has another great bonus if you purchase E-Book: Creating a Rich Environment and a Fun Place to Learn for Preschoolers. Every fifth purchaser from 1 to 300 will receive a cute tote bag with fun learning goodies for their child to enjoy FREE! We have 60 of these adorable bags to giveaway so you’ll have to hurry to get yours.

I am looking forward to the day when I have grandchildren because I will be well equipped with great ideas to make their visits to grandma’s house not only fun but educational without them even knowing it. The best of both worlds. I'd love to hear what you think about homeschooling with a preschooler or just how you keep your young ones occupied.
