Dear Poetess,
This is the only way I know how to get in touch with you since you don't have a blog. I thought that you might check back here again, so I decided to post an entry.
I'm not really sure what I want to do with my life. I might want to be a writer, but I think that I would back down from my books being published. I would be afraid of rejection. I have also considered something in the science field because I enjoy that about the same as writing.
Did you say that you are writing a book? If so, do you have any tips? I start a story, or book, and then I just seem to give up because I look at the books that I read, and then I just say, "I'll never be able to finish this and make it as long and interesting as these other books." Most of my books are based on things that have happened, or I wish could happen, to me. The characters in my books are usually based on my friends, I just change the names, and sometimes the ages. The main character in most books that I write are supposed to be me.
I haven't really posted any of my stories on here becuase I haven't finished any of them. If I post one on here, I don't think it would be very good to let people read some of the story and not the rest.
Well, I will TRY to get on it.

I know what you mean! I had the same problem until my mother got me a book called "The exciting world of creative writing," By Ruth McDaniel. It was the book that really got me excited about my work. She has tons of tips and even talks about how new writers are always hurt the first time they get criticized. But, they are trying to help not hurt you.
She says if you are serious about your writing you're not only going to have to except criticism but seek it out. And about starting and not finishing. When you are feeling that way about your stories, you need to take a break from them. Take about a months rest from writing stories, and then go back to the one you started. You might feel different about it. Another way is getting friends to help you. I have had people help finish stories for me. There are plenty of professional writers that have written a book with another author. Janette Oke was one of them. Heard of her? In the creative writing book, She even has a chapter on "What to write about"..Which I found a great help. You can check it out at http://ebiz.netopia.com/clpress/writingandspelling/ . By the way, it isn't a school book. It is the most helpful book for writers I have ever read! I flew through it. If you need anything else let me know! (Somehow ;) )

Oh, and Emily. About writing stories of like what you said, isn't wrong or bad. YOU are the writer, you choose the story. And also, NEVER underestimate yourself. And don't let your age get in the way either. How old are you though? I am 13.

I found something in the book that might help you and anyone else:
SUMMARY OF DESCRIPTION AIDS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*Use specific details to appeal to the senses:Sight, touch, taste and smell*
*Use figures of speech, fresh metaphors and effective comparisons*
*Use vivid language-active verbs and explicit, definitive nouns; "show don't tell": don't say "A bird sang" -say "a robin sang"*
*Limit use of adverbs and adjectives:Don't say "he walked quickly"-say "he fast walked" or "he jogged*
*Omit unnecessary words*
*Use active voice rather then passive voice*
Now, Some of my own tips:
*Keep a dictionary at hand when you are writing or reading
*Before you write take a while picturing what you plan to write about. Then it will flow better, and seem more real as you go along with it.
And I can't remember what else I was going to tell you!
