Aug. 10, 2006 - The Desires of My Heart

Is it wrong that we desire to move out of this very nice house in a subdivision and move into an old farm house?  I know it would be lots of work.  The house itself needs so much work.  The land would be more to take care of, too. This house we have now is in good condition, everything is 5 years old.  But the yard is so small.  Our neighbors are so close to us.  There isn't much room for my kids to play outside.  People keep telling me that I must be crazy.  Some have even said we are selfish and should just be content to live where we are.  Are they right?  Or is this longing from God?

We are happy  here.  We like this house a lot.  It's 5 years old.  But it's not really what my heart desires.  My heart desires to be somewhere we can have a garden, where my kids can play and roam.  My heart wants to spend time working in the yard and playing with my kids.  My heart wants a little patch of land where we can raise our family.  Are we wrong for desiring this change?

Our mortgage payments wouldn't change really, utilities would be about the same, so would the insurance.  It's 3 miles from here- so not much of a location change.  Why do I feel like I need to justify this desire?  Why do the people I love keep questioning me?  Is God trying to tell us to stay here?  Or is someone trying to stop the desires God has given us?  It's been a long time since I allowed myself to really hope for anything. The prospect of living on the little farm has been so wonderful.

Our house is advertised in the paper tomorrow.  Please pray for God to work miraculously- either selling this house quickly, or showing us that He wants us to stay here.  I know He has a plan for our lives, a plan for a Hope and a Future!

Psalm 37 :

    3Trust in the LORD and do good;
Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
    4Delight yourself in the LORD;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.
5Commit your way to the LORD,
Trust also in Him, and He will do it.

I think it sounds like a wonderful desire. I'll say a quick prayer that God works in this situation according to His will. Sometimes we have to just ignore what the world around is thinks.

I have a good friend who has been my neighbor (5 houses down) for almost 9 years. She is a homeschooling mom who has five children. (Two are no longer at home) Her and her husband bought property up in beautiful North Carolina. (We are in Florida) They were starting to feel the "strain" of debt and were not sure if they should move, stay and sell the NC property or remain neutral and keep crying out to the Lord for direction.

After months of being in Neutral a Godly friend of theirs told them to start moving towards the goal their hearts desired and to pray that God would give them the signals to either STOP or keep going. He said it was like sitting in a car that is in PARK. Put your foot on the gas and see if God puts the breaks on. (as long as you were HONESTLY open to the Lord stopping you)

I know that when I married my husband God gave HIM charge over me. The Lord leads thru him. I love the counsel of my parents, my friends and my family. I listen, I ponder, I pray but at the end of the day it is only to HIS counsel that I must submit.

A verse the Lord is bringing to mind that you could pray for this situation is Psalm 119:36

"Search me and know my heart. Test me and know my thoughts. Point out ANYTHING in me that offends you and LEAD ME along the path of EVERLASTING life!"

I am praying right now that God would go before you and behind you and place HIS hand of blessing upon you.

In HIS Love,
Mary

We lived in a 1000sqft apartment before we found our old farmhouse. I was 7m pregnant with our 5th when we moved in.
There is nothing like growing up where you have freedom to grow up. Living in that apartment was a nightmare. I longed for somewhere to let them roam and explore and learn about nature and such.
It has been a lot of work, and continues to be, but we have enjoyed:
planting a large garden,
far-away neighbors,
cool breezes on our porch swing
children running and playing on our 1 1/2 acres...
There is so much I am thankful for, and living on our own space, with room to expand adds to the beauty of it.

-saying a prayer for His Will and His Blessings in this area

Lori,

OF COURSE I know who you are you silly lady!!!! So glad to know you have a blog that I can visit. I added you to my friend list. Mary is the sweetest!! :-)

You know what I wonder.... is why neighbors, friends etc... feel the need to give input in our lives when input is not asked. As though they have nothing better to do, nothing they could improve upon etc... that they have all this time to give their input on the desires of your heart (or whatever it is you are desiring) Now if you are asking for their input, then STOP!!! LOL LOL LOL Seriously, pray about it, talk to you hubby about it and God will lead you. Wanting land out of a neighborhood is not a moral issue. There is no biblical principle you are violating. It is a freedom issue. You and your husband have the freedom to pursue this and I know y'all will follow God's leading. This is NOT a moral issue so don't let those well-meaning friends make it one. :-)
Praising Him,
Kim

Lori, how wonderful that you found my blog (and Kim's). Small world, huh?
Now we can keep up with what's going on with each other more than every four months. :-)
Thanks for your encouraging comments, you are a dear.
I totally understand the desire to move to an old house with land for the kids to roam. It is my desire as well. I want a big old house wiht lots of land for cows, chickens and goats. It sounds simple and some may even say foolish, but I want to live a more natural and simple life. I will keep seeking God over the issue and you keep us posted on what God is allowing to happen in your lives! :-)
Blessings,
Sonya
