Education. My 2006-2007 Homeschooling Year

This Article was published in Homeschooling Articles

I was looking at my Bible’s concordance and I came to the letter E. And the word Education was in there. Now my TruthQuest Inductive Student Bible- New Living Translation does not have a very good concordance, but when I saw this it caught my attention.

And since I was going to do a post about my upcoming, hopefully senior year, which we are starting Tuesday, I thought this would be a good thing to use to reflect on the subject of Education

It gave the following verses pertaining to Education :

Deuteronomy 6:1-9

"These are all the commands, laws, and regulations that the Lord your God told me to teach you so you may obey them in the land you are about to enter and occupy, and so you and your children and grandchildren might fear the Lord your God as long as you live. If you obey all His laws and commands, you will enjoy a long life. Listen closely, Israel, to everything I say. Be careful to obey. Then all will go well with you ad you will have many children in the land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you.

"Hear O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home, and when you are away on a journey, when you are lying down, and when you are getting up again. Tie them to your hand as a reminder, wear them on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."

Proverbs 22:6

"Teach your children to choose the right path, and when they are older, they will remain upon it."

I don’t know of a lot of Bibles that have Education listed in the concordance. Does yours? But I find this interesting.

For awhile I decided that if my kids wanted to go to a Christian/Private school when they were in High School that I would give them that choice. Some of the reason for this was the people I hung out with all went to a Christian school. I wanted so much to be able to go to school with my friends and I didn’t think that my MOM was actually homeschooling me the way that she should. Sometimes I felt like I was stupid because I hadn’t done school that day or because they would talk about something educational that I hadn’t learned. And I thought that a couple of the guys might be potential prospects for marriage. But this last year I have had blinders been peeled off my eyes and have come to see the real nature of people and things in my life.

I will probably homeschool all the way through. Not to mention that sending my kids to school, even a Christian school could be detrimental to them. If I homeschool them they could graduate sooner, and learn more.

Ok, now I will tell you about my 2006-2007 hopefully senior year.

What I like most about this year is we are studying The Middle Ages. I luv that era, with Knights and such! And since I am waiting for my knight, when I read about these others, I think that is how my knight will be!
We will be using Heart of Wisdom Teaching Approach to incorporate all of my subjects into a Unit Study. My science, writing skills, literature, etc will all have to do with what was going on in The Middle Ages.

I will also have to study: 1600’s, early 1900’s, late 1900‘s and whatever else we haven’t covered during my school years.

MATH:  I will be finishing my Saxon Algebra 1 and then moving on to Saxon Algebra 2.

SCIENCE: We will be using Apologia Science this year. Not exactly sure what we will be studying though.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE: Our language this year is Hebrew. MOM  thought this would be good seeing how we are living in the end times and thought that we should be able to speak this to know what is going on.

I will be helping teach the Youngers also.

BIBLE: we are reading through the entire Bible this year. I have already started (got o Jeremiah), but I guess I will have to start over. And we will be using Doorposts products also. I will be using Polished Corerstones, So Much More, As Unto The Lord & other Biblical Woman books

LIFE SKILLS 101: which includes everyday life, budgeting, homekeeping, etc.

BUSINESS 101:  I will also be taking an internship at SoulRest Educational Supplies. Doing business work, customer service, learning about all the products they carry, helping with the website, any business work concerning SoulRest Educational Supplies.

If you have any questions pertaining to SoulRest Educational Supplies please email me at missamanda@soulresteducationalsupplies.com for more info on this company/products or if you would like a catalog sent to you.

COMPUTER: I will be taking some computer classes. I think can take some college courses online at home to learn too. I know alot about computers all ready, but I want to be able to know more. i.e. HTML, website building, graphics, advanced computer technology, etc. I think I am going to start a home business pertaining to helping people who aren’t very learned with computers to be able to learn about computers. I would like to help small home business get started online, so they have a chance. I know that getting the word out is the only way to get a business established. I would like to do just that and more. All the while helping my husband out!

And last but definitely BLOGGING! This will be my social skills, outreach mission, a place to write my assignments, anything!

Well I know I am excited about school this year. I think it will be very productive and FUN! I will put all Strength and Stamina  into getting done what I need to and accomplishing it!

Have a blessed, productive, informative, and FUN school year!

Wow! I've never thought about this! I did look in my Bible, I have the Spirit Filled Study Bible by Jack Hayford, and Education isn't in the concordance.....hmmmm that is so interesting!

I did read part of this yesterday, but I had company last night and I couldn't comment, so Sorry I'm just now getting to it.

Looking forward to seeing you this pm!

Sometimes, as a mom, I worry that I am not giving my children all that they need educationally and I worry about the opportunities they may be missing. Your entry really blessed me and reminded me once again what REALLY matters! Your mom must be very proud of your and your siblings! I am always blessed by and learn so much from all of your blogs!

thx a lot 4 posting on my blog! im rli new 2 this so im not exactly sure wat im doin : )

ur article really applied 2 me and my life
ive been homeschooled all my life and this year i will be entering my freshman year in high school
i couldnt imagine taking that huge leap from homeschooling 2 public school this far down the road
whe i get older and have kids, i think that iam going 2 homeschool them all the way up like myself
they get a better education, more free time, and less work( ok, mabe thats just me! )
but then theres the downside that ive had 2 deal with my whole life: My Social Life
thats the only realy minus 2 homeschooling, not being around other children all day everyday

but hey! i turned out alright so mabe my kids will 2 : )

thx again 4 postin on my blog, i know its kinda sad but ur the only one!! : (
thx 4 ur wise words!

Hey!
This year for school - eighth grade for me- we're doing all the usual stuff: math, history, (I LOVE the Middle Ages!! I like Eleanor of Aquitaine. Not what she did, all the divorcing and stuff, but some of the things she accomplished.), geography, science, and some other subjects.

In addition, we doing French, (Mama took 4 years of French in high school, and she's been to France, so it should be fun watching her pick it all up again. Plus, I want to know the language.)

And typing. Ugh. Have you ever used Mavis Beacon typing? I started it, and, I, well, don't enjoy it much. Her voice just bugs me. :)

I really enjoyed chatting with you! Hope we can do it again soon!!

Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog! Yeah, it is fun, same to you and thanks!

I am doing good ^^ thanks. How are you? I loved reading your PRAISE Reports! They make me feel so happy, God is so good, isn't He? I am glad that He has blessed you and your family!

I personally don't mind your comment signature. I think it's great. But for some people whose monitors load slowly, I can see why they may have a problem with it.
Well, thanks again! God bless ;D
