This Article was published in HSB Friends, News and FUN Stuff
Homeschooling is so awesome, because you don’t have to be on a rigid schedule as you would if you were going to public school. I had a friend who was usually sleeping by 9pm during the school year, because she had to get up so early to go to school and then school just wore her out. She didn’t do any extra-curricular activities either. But she was very tired just from going to school. That is sad. She just graduated this year and she is so happy to not have to go to public school again. She always wished she could have been homeschooled like I was.
Homeschooling gives us opportunities that most people do not have. We have time on our side. It may seem like we don’t have enough time in the day, but if we really think about it, we are using our time investing in our children. We are not being idle with the time God has given us.
Mom and I were just talking yesterday about being on mountain time. LOL!! Our schedule is like we are on mountain time. We don’t usually go to bed til really late, but if we use mountain time its not as late. When we move out west, it won’t be a problem to change time zones for us.
I love being homeschooled. I did not always feel that way. But I know this is what I need to be doing and this is what I will be doing with my own children. I have even started thinking of how I will be homeschooling them, what I will use to homeschool them, and just things that I want to remember to do when I do homeschool. I want to make learning a great experience for my children. I want them to love to learn everything. There are things I love about school that I want to remember for my children.
I am going to start making a binder of what I want to do in my homeschool. What books I want to use, how I want to approach which subjects, what were some of the fun things I did in my schooling that I didn’t know were actually school. Like meeting bloggers.
It's so FUN to meet bloggers in real life. Those who you have come to know and love so much from learning about them on their blogs. We have been truly blessed with meeting so many bloggers that are like-minded with us. It is so great getting to meet the people you have come to know online in person. We just become to attached to them as bloggers, and then we meet them in real life and its like we have known each other for years. Whenever I have met a blogger in real life, there is no weirdness, because I already know them.
When we first met Uncle Paul, Auntie, Paulie, Luke, Levi, and Julia, it was so neat, cause Auntie came over and knew us immediately and was like, "this is Jacque, this is SuperAngel, and this is Jocelyn." She knew us because of the blogs. It was like we had been friends since the beginning. It was so neat. Then when we met Paulie, and Luke, and Levi, it was so natural. We just started talking about everything. It was so funny, cause I knew who they all were, but I had to tell them who I was, and then I said Superman, and they were like "OOH, you are the one with the Superman blog." Then they knew who I was. It was funny. But we totally just got to know each other in that little time at their speaking event. It was so great. We were so sad when it was over and we had to leave. But it was ok, cause we would see each other in a couple weeks in TN for the Barn dance. That was fun. And just like when we met them in IN, we just talked the whole time we were in TN. It is so nice having friends who agree with your beliefs.
It is just amazing to me that we have met so many great people we know from blogging in real life. I LOVE IT!!
So speaking of meeting bloggers…Thursday, guess who we got to meet?? Own seamstress... Miss Brielle. She is the one who made our lovely Pride and Prejudice dresses for the Birthday Bash last Feb.
She is so sweet. When I saw her, I just knew her. I had actually never seen her before. She saw me and came over. It was really neat.
We met her at Yoder's department store in Shipshewana. It is an amish store. Actually Shipshewana is one of the biggest Amish communities. It was pretty neat to get to go up there. I have been around amish all my life, but this was new. I had never been to Shipshewana before. It was pretty cool. Nice and homey. We saw lots of buggies with horse. The horses were so pretty.
Well we all got acquainted and then Brielle took us over to the fabric section. I had Isaac and he wanted to look all over, so I wasn’t with them the whole time, but we still caught up with them somewhere around the store. We looked at Prairie bonnets, which Brielle can make, and other things just around. Isaac and I found the Crocs. They are soo cool. They have Croc flip flops, and even designer sandals with about 2in heels. They are really expensive though. WOW!!
We found some Poor Boy Hats, but none as AWESOME as Paulie’s. Then we went to find Mom and Dad. They were getting some fruit for the Littles. We sat out in the hallway of Yoder’s, and talked about the $900 quilt they had for sale out there!! $900... that is like a laptop. Whoa!! It was really pretty though.
Then we ‘stole’ Brielle for awhile. Her grandma and other family wanted to go look at some other shops and we went to this little diner restaurant across the road. Luckily our 15 passenger van had the one extra seat. (we took the last bench out.) So we went over there and order some cheeseburgers, fries, and chicken baskets, and had a GREAT time visiting. Then we got some ice cream sandwiches and left.
I have some pictures for you all!! YAY!!
BTW-I was the photographer for this visit.
We finished and headed back toward Yoder’s for a photo op. Here are some of the photos we got:

This all of us.
Amanda Squared!! How cool is that?? We are both named Amanda. It was funny 'cause any time anyone said "Amanda", we both looked up.

This is all of the GIRLS!!
I look weird in these pics because I am squinting. I don't like them. LOL!!
We had to go into the pavilion, so we could see and not have to squint. LOL!!
Then we had to say goodbye to Brielle. It was so neat meeting her. She is just what I thought she would be. Sweet, gentle, loving, cool... you get the picture!!
Here is Caleb... sharing his Black Eyed Susan he found. Aww.. thanks, Cabe!!
And last but DEFINITELY not least, LUCY in her seat as we were leaving.
She is the CUTEST thing!!
Speaking of AWESOME friends... did you see the really cool Superman I got on here now?? SuperTux... How hysterical is that?? LOL!! Paulie found it for me!! LOL!! I thought they were so cool, I just had to use them!!
Make sure to get your "A Tribute to my Dad" submission in. I am so excited about this contest!!
Today was Isaac’s 4th birthday. WOW!! I can’t believe it. Time flies before our eyes. Of course, I was looking at my calendar and last Wednesday was 100 days til my 18 birthday. Mom is mad. LOL!! He had a good day. We are just going to eat dinner and cake and presents. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ISAAC!!
Ok... I so wish I could meet all my blog friends!! That would be
AWESOME!! I do hope that I will get to meet more. I have a few that I want to meet soo bad!!
You are all so special to me. Thank you all for being my friends!!
As Always...
Thanks for stopping by "Daily" at the "Planet"!!
©AmandaDixon2007
P.S. Ok... you got it!! I took the greeting off my blog because of two reasons. 1. Paulie gave me the code in the first place and he took his off, so why would I leave mine on, if he took his off?? and 2. because my good friends, Mandy, Brooke and Britta, and of course, Jocelyn asked me to.
So you are ‘greeting’ free!! Happy?? LOL!!

Ahhhh!!!! I LOOOVE Shipshewana!! We went there twice for two huge family reunions and they were both amazing. I have a lot of family up there in Indiana. I used to want to marry an Amish boy when I was little. =D Oh man, I have a lot of good memories from Shipshewana...

Great pictures. I like the idea of keeping a binder for when you become a homeschool mom. Think of how many things you will NOT have to weed through like us FIRST generation hsing moms do. You will already have a feel for what you like and what works for different families!

Happy Birthday Isaac! Wow, you have really pretty eyes! And Brielle is beautiful.
Hmm, I need to start thinking about homeschooling stuff. I don't plan on getting married or having kids for at least a couple more years but it would be good not to go into it blindly.
Thank you for taking the pop-off off! And the Super Penguin is sooo adorable!
Talk to you soon!
Deb

Thanks so much for the encouraging comment, Amanda :-)
Great post!!! Homeschooling is such a blessing, and I want to homeschool my own children some day as well.
The lady I babysit for is going to homeschool her kids this year, but her parents are discouraging her and telling her she she put them in public school instead. I told her she shouldn't let anyone discourage her because homeschooling is such a blessing!!!!! God has greatly blessed us that we are able to.
I think it's awesome you have got to meet so many bloggers! Now I'm next ;-) LOL!
Oh, and thanks for taking the pop up off ;-)
Have a great day!!
Luv, Brooke

Hey Amanda!
Great post! I love being homschooled and not having to be tied down to a certain schedule. Thats a good idea that you are already planning ahead for what you are going to be doing with your kids in thier school. That way you'll be prepared when you start.
Great pictures! Thats neat that you got to meet Brielle!

Happy Birthday Isaac!
I'm glad that you're planning on homeschooling. I wish I had been homeschooled-- but my family had never heard of such a thing! (as in... people do that? what is it? huh???)
I was always tired during the school year. I was at school by 7am for my zero hour class and then there would be after-school activities/mtg, weekend competitions, and of course homework! Up until at least midnight and always always busy with busywork. *sigh* I don't miss a single second of it!
I hope you have a very relaxing weekend, my friend. And yes, Lucy is ADORABLE!

I'm sorry I haven't been by in awhile. This summer has absolutely flown by and been very busy (which is probably why it seemed to fly)!!
Good post. I've been thinking more lately about homeschooling my children, too... about how I would want to go about it. Writing down ideas in a notebook is a good idea.
I just updated my blog tonight so come by when you have a chance. Hope you have a great week!

I don't know how public school kids stand school! I can't imagine being stuck behind a desk all day! learning is supposed to be fun.
Some of the people who homeschool also have to wrong ideas though, they try to make their kids sit at a table all day. I think that life is learning, not sitting around doing math.
I posted some new blogs, come check em' out.

I think that was my bonnet. LOL!! She is just too cute, huh?? You should come see how big she is getting. She loves to sit in her jumpy jumpy. She can reach the floor now too. YIKES!!
I can't wait to see Sus!! I bet she will be just as adorable as Luc. You only have, what, 5 months?? WOW!! The time sure has gone by fast. I don't think you probably look like a barn. At least no barn I have seen. LOL!!
Miss you and am praying for you all. Love you!!
