A Homeschool Musical...

This Article was published in Homeschooling Articles

"There's no business like your own business." Oh, sorry... I am in the musical mood. Before I get to why, I just need to say... Jocelyn always manages to get what I want to post posted before me... like with us in the van... and now recently about my really cool idea for a new homeschool thing. So I know she already blogged about it, but I am going to too... since it was my idea.
We went to Wal-Mart last Friday and we were looking at t-shirts and we saw some really funny ones. I found 2 Superman/Supergirl tshirts. I got the Supergirl one yesterday. Its really neat too. The only thing is its green and I am not a green fan. But its really neat anyway, it has roses, and ribbons and it says, "Supergirl, saves the world 24/7". I really like it, and so does Mom.
Ok... that doesn't explain it too well, so I decided to just show you.
Me8-15-07.jpg image by Super_Angel
(Click for bigger image)
We also found a "Highschool Musical" t-shirt. Now I really don't know much about that movie, but I know its plastered all over W-M.
Anyway... I had the funny idea to make a tshirt that says a "Homeschool Musical". LOL!! Get 6 main kids, take a pic of them jumping in the air and put it on a tshirt. That is what was on the front of the 'Highschool Musical" one. So you think it'll sell?? Me either, but it was funny.
So guess what I did on Saturday nite... I had "Saturday Night Fever". I was making dinner and I started a "Homeschool Musical". The first number was "We're Making Dinner." I don't remember the words I used, but it was really hilarious. Ask Mom. She was in the next room laughing her head off. I got Caleb to be in it with me... Jocelyn wouldn't join though. So as the first number was being sung by yours truly, I started dancing around the kitchen and then Caleb started with me. It was really a site to see. Ok, not like I would LET anyone see it. We only actually got as far as the first song... then kinda died off. Its not a very good musical when only one person is in it besides the 2yo. So my dreams of grandeur on the big stage kinda died with that one... But it was funny anyway.
Ok... so what... I am a weirdy!!
So... "There Is No Business Like Your Own Business".
Jocelyn did a post about entrepreneurs there were many we know. Owning your own business is a very good idea. I think it is the way to go.
A couple months ago, I was watching Nightline and they had a special on teens that started their own businesses. They are making alot of money with them too. It was just simple stuff, like handmade jewelry, and shampoos and conditioners that were homemade and healthy. It was really neat to see how they run their businesses too. They showed how the one girl actually making the shampoos and then they showed the 2 sisters making the jewelry. The Shampoo girl had just bought her own office place, so she could mass produce. She has had so many orders she had to get a warehouse. WOW!! That is impressive.
I want to start my own business too. I know that is the best way to go.  There are a couple reasons why I want to start my own business is 1.) I want to help my husband. 2.) I want it to be a ministry, not necessarily a job. 3.) I don't want to have a boss telling me what I need to do, and I don't want to go out and get a job.
I have thought of many things I could do... designing templates, making things on Cafepress, selling crafts, making and selling homemade cloth diapers, but it seems everyone is doing that, so I don't think it would be worth it.
Mom and I were talking about starting my own business the other nite. We were going through the things we have done like eBay, which we did really well at, except it takes alot of work and time. We used to sell homeschool books wholesale, and it did pretty well too, but we had some problems with our upline. Mom sells Creative Memories Scrapbooking Supplies, and she used to sell Mary Kay. Those are all fine and dandy, but they require you having to go places and do demonstrations. It is so much nicer, just being able to be home and work.
I already have an awesome friend who has his own business of setting up websites who said he would help me when I start my business.
But "where my heart truly lies" is in telling others about homeschooling and books. I would really like to do something with homeschool books, because I know alot about them. I like going to homeschool conventions. I am pretty good at public speaking, so interacting with people there would be really good.
Mom and I have thought about doing a homeschool help site, where you can have experienced homeschoolers help you with questions and other things. I know moms need encouragement, and when I am older I would like to be an encouragement to other moms. I would like to write things and speak to people about homeschooling.
Being a homeschooler gives me opportunities that most kids don't have. I do things all the time that most kids don't do. I go grocery shopping for a family of 10. Which means I make up the menu and the grocery list, making sure I stay in the budget. I know how to handle multiple situations. I can take care of a household. I have had experience with farm life. There are so many things I know how to do, that there are probably endless possibilities for me.
I know God has a plan for my life, and if He put this desire in my heart, then He will make a way for it to happen.
Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
As Always...

High School Musical is awful! I've seen part of it.

I think it might have been fun seeing Homeschool Musical. Maybe Kris could write the script for you. She's good at that. LOL!

I think that the Homeschool Musical shirt would sell, but I don't think Christians would buy it. Highschool Musical is supposed to be a pretty bad movie. :(

Yeah, what is the deal with that, you and Jocelyn post on all the same subjects!

That would be neat to start you own business. The idea of the t-shirt was really cool. I have seen the High school Musical and its "ok"(meaning it has the hidden message of "believing in your self". That message and I don't jive very well, me being a Christian and the Holy Spirit telling me to believe in the Lord, where would I find strength in myself anyways? I need the Lord to help me.). Superman does have some Christian themes in it, that's a reason for my liking it. I've also read some of the Superman comics. I hope that your week is a blessed one.

Matt

PS/ I know how much you love Superman so, I found the Superman Returns movie official web-site http://supermanreturns.warnerbros.com/

Click on the DOWNLOADS link, there is literally a boat-load of Superman stuff!

Hello Amanda,
Thank you for the comment…I enjoyed hearing from you.
The shirt you got was very cute…you look nice in that color of green.
Sounds like you have fun just messing around…that’s great.

Yes, still working on the play…. (It actually doesn’t open until March, but I have a lot of sewing and designing to do until then) Right now I’m working on the sketches and costume themes to present to the Director, then I can go from there. I did get some of the fabrics though because they were on such a great sale I couldn’t resist.

So how have you been doing? I’m doing pretty good…very busy, but hanging in there. How is the SSA going? At least I think you started it.

Could I ask you and your family to be praying for something? We have a really good friend of ours that has cancer…she found out about a year ago and things do not look good for her…she’s a home school mom and has three kids… She was getting some results back and I fear that it is very sad news because she has not called mom. So if you could be praying that would be wonderful. Thank you so much.

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Your friend,
Amanda Brielle

I think I am with you on the start your own business thing. That seems like one of the best options for stay at home daughters. Just the other day I found out about etsy.com, which is like e-bay only for homemade crafts. I think I might try that sometime.

That's a cute shirt!

Have a good weekend,

LOL on making your own musical...I have on occasion danced and sung around the house to either songs from a musical or my own :D...usually though only the cats were around to see me :D. It's good that you're thinking ahead on what kind of business you can go into!

Speaking ofHomeschool Musical--have you ever seen any of the Funny Moms videos? It's a group of homeschool moms from around here, they got together and took some old songs and re-wrote the lyrics and made a homeschool video out of them. It's really funny!

What I Believe

I am a Biblical Believer and don’t conform to the denominations of today’s world. I am a non-fiction Believer. That means that God has already written my life story and I don’t want to change it by doing what I want, but follow it perfectly by His Word and Guidance. I will follow that plan alone. I will not make my own plans, but follow where He leads me.
I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and love Him as my Savior. I want to live wholly for Him and give my everything to Him.
I believe in Jesus Christ. That He is the Only Son of God. That He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father unless through Jesus Christ.
I believe Jesus Christ was beaten, crucified, and rose again in three days. I believe that He died for my sins, and washed them away. I believe that He is coming back for his people some day soon.
I believe that a marriage consists of a MAN and a WOMAN. I believe that the husband should be the head of the household and that all decisions lie ultimately with him. I believe that a woman should be a keeper of her home. I believe she does not need to get a job outside of her home and out of the authority of her husband.
I believe in a full quiver, and that God will give me the desires of my heart. I believe that the woman should stay home and raise her children in the LORD.
I am praying and waiting for God to bring the man of my dreams. I can’t wait to get married and have my own family. I am excited that I can be a stay at home mom and keep my home. I want to be a Homemaker and make my home to be a haven for my family to learn to be Biblical and Godly.
I hope to be an encouragement and teach Biblical things to all who stop by my blog and be encouraged and learn from others.
