A Super Book List

Mom has a new thing going... again. She is on a roll with memes, carnivals, and neat tags. Her newest one is book lists for different aged children. She has one for 5ish, 10ish, Young Adult, and Family Reading Time.
So I thought I would post the fiction books I have read... well at least as many as I can remember. ; ) Because I have read MILLIONS of books, I'm sure.
Ok... here goes:
Pages: Title: Author: # of Books:
262 Pride and Prejudice Jane Austen
Great Expectations Charles Dickens
735 David Copperfield Charles Dickens
699 The Robe Lloyd C. Douglas
503 The Big Fisherman Lloyd C. Douglas
367 King Arthur's Knights Henry Gilbert
372 The Pearl Maiden H. Rider Haggard
The Chronicles of Narnia C.S. Lewis 7
Cheney Duvall M.D. Series Gilbert Morris 12
Anne of Green Gables Series L.M. Montgomery 12
Love Comes Softly Series Janette Oke 8
A Prairie Legacy Series Janette Oke 4
251 A Gown of Spanish Lace Janette Oke
344 Stepping Heavenward Elizabeth Prentiss
Michael O’Halloran Gene Stratton-Porter
475 Daughter of the Land Gene Stratton-Porter
125 At The Foot Of The Rainbow Gene Stratton-Porter
The Bronze Bow Elizabeth George Speare
523 Ishmael E.D.E.N. Southworth
The Lord of the Rings J.R.R. Tolkien 3
The Lamb Among The Stars Chris Walley 3 (I have read 1 & 2 )
202 The Age of Chivarly
Ok... So not as many I thought, but I know there are alot more books I can't remember. That is all I have recorded since 2005. I have read some of these multiple times too.
I have learned alot about many things by reading books, especially Classics.
I have a list going for what I will be reading in the future. Some of the ones I am interested in are:
Bleak House Charles Dickens
Self-Raised E.D.E.N. Southworth
Dark Foundations Chris Walley
Scarlet Letter Nathaniel Hawthorne
Sense and Sensibility Jane Austen
I will do a follow up post with non fiction books I have read. That is going to be a long one too.
Ok... we don't start school til after Labor Day... who has started already??
As Always,
Thanks for stopping by "Daily" at the "Planet"!!

Hey Amanda! OH GOODNESS!!! I haven't commented you in forever! I am sooo behind on my commenting it's not even funny! I don't think I'll ever be able to catch up...oh well.
Oh, I love classics!!! They are the absolute best in my opinion! I also really like the Lamplighter books, they're great. Right now I am reading Pride and Prejudice and I'm really enjoying it. I also read part of Ishmael, but got really depressed after the first part and stopped reading it so I'm going to start reading it over after I'm done with P&P. Also (I may have told you this before) The Hidden Hand is a really good book too. I think it's written by the same author as Ishmael.
Well, I hope you have a great day! Hopefully we can chat sometime this week (via phone or IM).
Sparkles ; )
Oh, and thanks again for correcting that uhhh...little mistake of mine! LOL! I'm such an idiot!

That's a pretty good list; I have rest most of the books you named.
I'm very glad that I began the habit at the beginning of high school of keeping a log of all the books I read, when I started and when I finished them. The list is really long now, and I am constantly adding more. I also just wrote up a good list of books that I would like to read as well.
I would love to leave a longer comment, but my mom needs help with the 2-yr-old!!

That looks like a great list of books, and I will have to remember it for when I need something to read.
I would really like to know what you think of The Scarlett Letter when you finish it. I only listened to an abriged version of it, but I have talked to another person, and we both thought that the author condoned what the main character did. That is to say, Hester doesn't feel bad about what she did, and she didn't get her just rewards at the end. I have to say that I most definatly may be wrong, which is why I would love to hear what you have to say.

I like reading all kinds of books, classics, novels, fiction, non- fiction, etc. I'm talking about books that have meaning, not books that have no meaning and no value (like soooo many books out there day). I've read C.S Lewis's theology stories, those are great. I've read a few of Charles Dickens’s books. J.R.R.Tolkien's books are intriguing to me and they're also classics, kinda. Anywho, how is like in Metropolis, the city where the "Man of steel" resides? Ttyl and God bless.

You wouldn't just so happen to like Superman would you? I have read some of those books too. I'm currently reading the Chronicels(?) of Narnia. I really like them so far I'm on the 4th book. I had no idea they went back to Narnia. I have only watched the movie. (which I loved)
Ok I guess I'll go and stop talking. :-D

Hi Amanda,
I was just stopping by to see what you were up to....I'm taking a short break from making my ballgown...so I thought I'd say hello to you.
I enjoyed reading your post.......I love to read classics...well I just like to read books. I've read many of the ones that you've listed.....
Dicken's works are always good...I've not yet read Bleak House, I really enjoyed the movie version by Masterpiece Theater, but still need to read the book.
Have you read or seen the movie Nicholas Nicholby? I enjoyed both the book and the movie, although the movie had a few moments that might not be for little kids. Anyway....
What else have you been up to?
I've just been sewing, I'm afraid that's way my blog hasn't been updated, but I did do a tag that your sis tagged me with a while ago.
I hope you are having a wonderful day!
Love,

A Homeschool Musical...
Published on August 15, 2007 at 1:44 PM
This Article was published in Homeschooling Articles
"There's no business like your own business." Oh, sorry... I am in the musical mood. Before I get to why, I just need to say... Jocelyn always manages to get what I want to post posted before me... like with us in the van... and now recently about my really cool idea for a new homeschool thing. So I know she already blogged about it, but I am going to too... since it was my idea.
We went to Wal-Mart last Friday and we were looking at t-shirts and we saw some really funny ones. I found 2 Superman/Supergirl tshirts. I got the Supergirl one yesterday. Its really neat too. The only thing is its green and I am not a green fan. But its really neat anyway, it has roses, and ribbons and it says, "Supergirl, saves the world 24/7". I really like it, and so does Mom.
Ok... that doesn't explain it too well, so I decided to just show you.
(Click for bigger image)
We also found a "Highschool Musical" t-shirt. Now I really don't know much about that movie, but I know its plastered all over W-M.
Anyway... I had the funny idea to make a tshirt that says a "Homeschool Musical". LOL!! Get 6 main kids, take a pic of them jumping in the air and put it on a tshirt. That is what was on the front of the 'Highschool Musical" one. So you think it'll sell?? Me either, but it was funny.
So guess what I did on Saturday nite... I had "Saturday Night Fever". I was making dinner and I started a "Homeschool Musical". The first number was "We're Making Dinner." I don't remember the words I used, but it was really hilarious. Ask Mom. She was in the next room laughing her head off. I got Caleb to be in it with me... Jocelyn wouldn't join though. So as the first number was being sung by yours truly, I started dancing around the kitchen and then Caleb started with me. It was really a site to see. Ok, not like I would LET anyone see it. We only actually got as far as the first song... then kinda died off. Its not a very good musical when only one person is in it besides the 2yo. So my dreams of grandeur on the big stage kinda died with that one... But it was funny anyway.
Ok... so what... I am a weirdy!!
So... "There Is No Business Like Your Own Business".
Jocelyn did a post about entrepreneurs there were many we know. Owning your own business is a very good idea. I think it is the way to go.
A couple months ago, I was watching Nightline and they had a special on teens that started their own businesses. They are making alot of money with them too. It was just simple stuff, like handmade jewelry, and shampoos and conditioners that were homemade and healthy. It was really neat to see how they run their businesses too. They showed how the one girl actually making the shampoos and then they showed the 2 sisters making the jewelry. The Shampoo girl had just bought her own office place, so she could mass produce. She has had so many orders she had to get a warehouse. WOW!! That is impressive.
I want to start my own business too. I know that is the best way to go. There are a couple reasons why I want to start my own business is 1.) I want to help my husband. 2.) I want it to be a ministry, not necessarily a job. 3.) I don't want to have a boss telling me what I need to do, and I don't want to go out and get a job.
I have thought of many things I could do... designing templates, making things on Cafepress, selling crafts, making and selling homemade cloth diapers, but it seems everyone is doing that, so I don't think it would be worth it.
Mom and I were talking about starting my own business the other nite. We were going through the things we have done like eBay, which we did really well at, except it takes alot of work and time. We used to sell homeschool books wholesale, and it did pretty well too, but we had some problems with our upline. Mom sells Creative Memories Scrapbooking Supplies, and she used to sell Mary Kay. Those are all fine and dandy, but they require you having to go places and do demonstrations. It is so much nicer, just being able to be home and work.
I already have an awesome friend who has his own business of setting up websites who said he would help me when I start my business.
But "where my heart truly lies" is in telling others about homeschooling and books. I would really like to do something with homeschool books, because I know alot about them. I like going to homeschool conventions. I am pretty good at public speaking, so interacting with people there would be really good.
Mom and I have thought about doing a homeschool help site, where you can have experienced homeschoolers help you with questions and other things. I know moms need encouragement, and when I am older I would like to be an encouragement to other moms. I would like to write things and speak to people about homeschooling.
Being a homeschooler gives me opportunities that most kids don't have. I do things all the time that most kids don't do. I go grocery shopping for a family of 10. Which means I make up the menu and the grocery list, making sure I stay in the budget. I know how to handle multiple situations. I can take care of a household. I have had experience with farm life. There are so many things I know how to do, that there are probably endless possibilities for me.
I know God has a plan for my life, and if He put this desire in my heart, then He will make a way for it to happen.
Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
As Always...

That would be neat to start you own business. The idea of the t-shirt was really cool. I have seen the High school Musical and its "ok"(meaning it has the hidden message of "believing in your self". That message and I don't jive very well, me being a Christian and the Holy Spirit telling me to believe in the Lord, where would I find strength in myself anyways? I need the Lord to help me.). Superman does have some Christian themes in it, that's a reason for my liking it. I've also read some of the Superman comics. I hope that your week is a blessed one.
Matt
PS/ I know how much you love Superman so, I found the Superman Returns movie official web-site http://supermanreturns.warnerbros.com/

Hello Amanda,
Thank you for the comment…I enjoyed hearing from you.
The shirt you got was very cute…you look nice in that color of green.
Sounds like you have fun just messing around…that’s great.
Yes, still working on the play…. (It actually doesn’t open until March, but I have a lot of sewing and designing to do until then) Right now I’m working on the sketches and costume themes to present to the Director, then I can go from there. I did get some of the fabrics though because they were on such a great sale I couldn’t resist.
So how have you been doing? I’m doing pretty good…very busy, but hanging in there. How is the SSA going? At least I think you started it.
Could I ask you and your family to be praying for something? We have a really good friend of ours that has cancer…she found out about a year ago and things do not look good for her…she’s a home school mom and has three kids… She was getting some results back and I fear that it is very sad news because she has not called mom. So if you could be praying that would be wonderful. Thank you so much.
I hope you have a wonderful day!
Your friend,
Amanda Brielle

It All Started With A Girl: An Anne Frank Biography Essay
Published on August 13, 2007 at 11:11 AM
This Article was published in Homeschooling Articles
|
Last week, I told you a little bit about our WWII study. During that study, we each got to pick a specfic topic to talk on. I chose Anne Frank. Here is one of the reports I did on her. I also read her book, and many other books about her. I learned alot about her. It is a very sad story. The whole war is a sad story and she is just one of many who suffered.
It All Started With A Girl: An Anne Frank Biography
Annelies Marie Frank was born on June 12,1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. She was the second child of Otto & Edith Frank, German Jews. The Frank family lived in Frankfurt, Germany until 1933. Anne had a sister named Margot; she was 3 years older than Anne was. When they were little Otto would make up stories & tell them to the girls. They loved his stories.
In 1933 many things changed, Otto’s bank failed him because of the Great Depression in the U.S. & Adolf Hitler had come to be the chancellor of Germany. That is when the trouble started for the Jews. A new law passed that effected Margot, it stated that Jewish children had to sit apart from non-Jewish children & Otto & Edith were very angry. Many other things happened that affected the Jews, so Otto decided they needed to leave the country.
They moved to Amsterdam, Holland. Edith had a brother who worked for a Switzerland spice company named Opekta. He loaned Otto some money to start one in Amsterdam. In August 1933, Otto left for Amsterdam to start his business while the children went to Aachen to stay with their grandmother. Edith traveled back & forth between Aachen & Amsterdam. After awhile she & Otto found an apartment on Merwedeplein. Margot joined her parents in December, so that she would be able to start school in January. Anne stayed with her grandmother, & did not arrive until February 16,1934, Margot’s 8th birthday.
While they lived on Merwedeplein, they met a family named the Goslars. They had a daughter named Hanneli, who was Anne’s age. Anne & Hanneli, & Sanne Ledermann, who lived on the Merwedeplein, were inseparable. Hanneli’s mom once said, “God knows everything, but Anne knows everything better”
Anne liked school. She excelled in writing & history, but not in math. Margot excelled in everything. Anne had a hard time concentrating in class. Mr. Keesing, her math teacher, punished her for talking by assigning an essay entitled, ”A chatterbox”. Anne won him over with her clever writing.
Edith’s brother, Walter, was involved in Kristallnacht, & was arrested. He was sent to a concentration camp.
Edith’s mother had come to live with family. She had cancer. Anne & Margot loved their grandmother very much. In 1942 Grandmother Hollander died. Anne was very close to Grandmother Hollander; she was the most affected by the death.
June 12, 1942, Anne’s 13th birthday was a special day. She got up very early in the morning to find the best present she would ever receive. A red & green checkered diary. She had wanted that for a long time. She also got a fountain pen, after she went & thanked her father, she went & wrote her first entry. On Sunday she her friends from school came over for a party. Since they couldn’t go to a movie theater, Otto knew someone who could get them a copy of the movie “Lighthouse Keeper”; it was about the dog Rin Tin Tin. That was Anne’s favorite. She had the best birthday ever that day.
A few weeks after her birthday Otto & Anne went for a walk, Otto told her that they would be going in to hiding soon. Anne was scared.
On July 5, 1942, There was a knock at the Frank’s door. Edith answered it; they had received a telegram. Edith called Margot into the living room, she told her it was a call-up for Otto, but it was actually a call-up for Margot. Edith told Margot that she had to go see Mr. van Pels, & to not let anyone in the apartment while she was gone, and asked her to explain it to Anne. After a little while Edith & Mr. van Pels came back to wait for Otto. When Otto arrived they showed him the note & he told everyone to start packing. He asked Mr. Van Pels to call Miep & Jan Gies. Miep & Jan arrive & Otto asks if they could take some of their things with them to the hiding place. Miep & Jan put layers of Edith’s & Otto’s clothes on to take there. They would leave early in the morning.
Around 5am on July 6th, Miep arrives with two bikes. One for her, one for Margot. They wanted to get Margot away before anyone else, since the call-up was for her. After Margot left, the rest of the family finished packing. Anne had to put on many pairs of clothes, & packed her backpack full of clothes. They could only take was a necessity with them. Anne took her movie star pictures with her to remind her of better times, & of course she took her beloved diary. Otto would not let her take her cat, Mortje. Otto leaves a note saying they went to Switzerland to visit his mother, but they were actually going to Otto’s Opekta Spice factory, a few blocks away.
The Franks moved in the “Secret Annex” with the van Pelses, & Dr. Fritz Dussel. Anne was amazed at how much Otto had managed to move to the Annex. When they got there Anne & Otto unpacked everything, while Edith & Margot slept. Only a week after the Franks move to the Annex, Mr. & Mrs. van Pels & their son Peter moved in the Secret Annex. Mr. van Pels brought a collapsible table with him, Mrs. van Pels brought a chamberpot in her hatbox, & Peter managed to sneak is cat, Mousche in. They had no bathroom or hot water, so at nights or weekends they would take a washtub downstairs & take a bath.
Every morning before the workers came to work; Miep would go get a grocery list from them. Anne would question Miep about the outside world. When the workers got there they had to be completely silent. On July 18, they invited Jan & Miep to dinner. Anne wrote a special dinner menu for the occasion, it was called “Bouillon a la Hunzestraat”, for the street Jan & Miep lived on, & “Roast beef Scholte” for their butcher. There were 2 salads, potatoes, & Raspberry Juice with sugar, & cinnamon to have with the “coffee, sugar, cream, & various surprises”.
August 6, 1942, known as Black Thursday, Jews in Amsterdam were arrested at gunpoint, beaten, & taken away. Otto was worried that they would be found, so he had Bep’s father Johan Voskuijl, the warehouse manager, to help them cover up the door. Mr. Voskuijl decided to build a bookcase to screw in the wall & attach it to swing open.
Anne was starting to feel cooped up after just a few weeks. Anne, being the “Chatterbox” that she was, was getting very tired of the quietness. She wanted to have a change once in a while; she would continually ask Miep if they would spend the night in the “Annex” with them. When Miep finally said, yes, Anne was overjoyed & couldn’t wait.
On the special night, Miep & Jan came for dinner; everyone talked for a long time while they had dessert. When it was time for bed Margot & Anne slept in their parent’s room, so that Miep & Jan could have their own room.
But Miep couldn’t sleep; sleeping in the “Annex” was not what she expected. She could hear every movement, a bed moving, Mr. van Pels coughing, & every 15 minutes the Westertoren bells would ring. Miep was scared; she thought how it must be for a Jew in hiding.
Anne had a hard time living in the Annex. She would constantly fight with her mother, Dr. Dussel, & Mrs. van Pels. She & her sister were not close, so she developed a relationship with Peter. Whenever they were alone they would talk about things that their parents wouldn’t understand. He confided in her & she in him. They both had the same feelings about everything going on. She didn’t always like him, at first she thought he was too sensitive & lazy, she also thought he was a hypochondriac. Anne longed for someone she could really talk to. They spend a lot of time together, their parents thought they were spending too much. Peter was insecure about himself. She wanted to make him feel secure again. They talked about everything. Anne & Peter would sometimes join the other when they listened to the radio, but mostly spent time with each other. Anne worried that Margot was feeling left out, so Anne asked her about it & Margot said she felt like he was more of a brother to her, & encouraged her to keeping spending time with Peter.
Willem van Maaren, the head warehouseman, suspected that the annex was a secret hiding place. The Residents were concerned that he might turn them in. Mr. Kugler told them that van Maaren set traps to prove if anyone had entered the office. At night he would put a pencil on the edge of a desk, or put flour on the floor.
One night the Residents heard a barrel fall & someone fiddling with the door. Otto & Peter went downstairs to see what was happening, they discovered it was a burglar.
A few months later they struck again. Early in the morning Peter went downstairs to find the front door open. Fearing a burglary they were silent as they dressed. Finally Mr. Kugler came upstairs, & confirmed their suspicions. The burglars stole 2 cashboxes, containing money, & ration coupons for 330 pounds of sugar. Then on another night, Mr. van Pels went downstairs after dinner to discover that someone had entered the office, leaving it a mess, the next morning Peter found the door open. Mr. Kugler’s new briefcase was missing. The Residents were worried that the burglar was still down there when Mr. van Pels went down. But the worst had not yet happened.
In April 1944, Peter heard 2 loud bangs that echoed through the Annex. He went downstairs to find 2 large panels missing from the door, & went to tell Otto. Otto, Mr. van Pels & Dr. Dussel went down to investigates. There in the warehouse they saw the burglars, Mr. van Pels yelled “Police“, & the burglars ran. The Residents were replacing the panel, when a man & a woman walked by. They shined their flashlights inside the warehouse, then quickly turned away. Later that night, the residents were sitting in the Annex, & at 11pm they heard footsteps on the stairs, then the bookcase shook, and a can fell off. Then it was quiet. They didn’t know if there was someone standing outside or if they had left. They didn’t move all night.
The next day the office was closed, so no one had planned to come to the office. Otto decided to call Mr. Kleiman, & tell him what had happened. Finally they heard a knock on the bookcase. Miep & Jan had come. Jan nailed a board on the hole in the door. They decided that they needed to file a report. If they didn’t the police would be suspicious.
Over the next few days, Jan found out what had happened. The night watchman, Mr. Sleegers, told Jan that he found the hole & reported it to the police. Then he & the officer went & searched the building. Then Mr. van Hoeven, a grocer, told Jan that he & his wife were walking & saw the hole. He told Jan that he suspected that there were Jews hiding & he didn’t want to put them at a greater risk.
On the morning of August 4,1944, Gestapo officer Karl Silberbauer & many Dutch Nazi police officers entered the Opekta Spice Factory. Silberbauer pointed a gun at Mr. Kleiman, Bep & Miep & told them to sit down. Mr. Kugler who was in his office, heard the commotion & came out. Silberbauer asked who was in charge, & Mr. Kugler responded. Silberbauer told him that he was searching for secret weapons & demanded to see each room. Mr. Kugler showed him all the rooms on the second floor, and then Silberbauer wanted to see the third. The Gestapo searched the storerooms, then went to the landing.
Mr. Kugler watched in horror as they shook the bookcase. They tried several times to move it, but couldn’t. Then they shook forcefully, the hook came unfastened & it moved, & revealed the doorway. With guns in their hands the officers told Mr. Kugler to lead the way. They entered the Franks’ room. Mr. Kugler saw Edith first & said “The Gestapo is here”. One of the officers went to Anne’s room & found Anne & Margot. The others went upstairs; Otto was in Peter’s room helping him with his school. Dr. Dussel & Mr. & Mrs. van Pels were in their room.
They all went downstairs in the “Annex“. Silberbauer demanded to know where the strongbox was kept, Otto told him where it was. Silberbauer picked up Anne’s briefcase with all her papers in it & shook it out on the floor. Then he put the cashbox & their menorah in the briefcase. Then Silberbauer noticed an army footlocker, & asked who’s it was, Otto answered. He asked Otto where he got it from & Otto told him that he had been a commanding officer in World War I. Silberbauer was surprised, & asked why they had gone into hiding instead of being sent to Theresienstadt. Otto’s reply was ”I had been given no assurance that we would be sent there.” Once Silberbauer knew that Otto had been an officer he showed them more respect & kindness.
Once back in the office, Silberbauer arrested Mr. Kugler & Mr. Kleiman. He took the prisoners to Gestapo headquarters to be questioned to find out if they knew about anymore Jews in hiding. They were there for a few days, and then they were boarded on a train headed for Westbork. This was not a killing camp, it was a labor camp.
At Westbork, Anne enjoyed being outside & played with other kids her age. But then, Anne got sick & was confined to the infirmary. Otto would visit her every night & tell her old stories like he used too.
In August 1944, the Germans were starting to lose the war, & started emptying the camps of the Jews. The Franks’ were only in Westbork for 3 weeks. On September 2, 1944, their names had been called to be sent to Auschwitz, the largest killing center.
When they arrived at Auschwitz, the men were sent to the right & the women were sent to the left. For the first time Edith & the girls would not see Otto again. Of the 1,019 passengers on that train, 549 were immediately sent to the gas chambers. As soon as the Franks’ arrived they were tattooed, & their heads were shaved. They didn’t have very much to & only dirty water to drink.
Early in the morning & in the evenings they were forced to be in a roll call. They had to stand for 2 hours with their hands above their heads & sometimes were naked.
Anne was in charge of giving out food in her barracks. Edith had a friend named Rosa de Winter, who became ill, & Anne managed to get her extra food.
On October 27,1944, the SS chose the youngest & healthiest to be transported, Edith & Margot were chosen, but not Anne because she had scabies. Edith & Margot would not leave without her, so they stayed behind. 3 days later they were doing it again & only the healthy ones were leaving. The rest were being sent to the gas chambers. Edith & Rosa were on their way to the gas chambers, when they slipped away & joined another group.
Later Edith became sick & was sent to the infirmary, Rosa would bring her food, but Edith never ate it, she said she was saving it for her family. Edith died on January 6, 1945.
Anne & Margot were sent to Bergen-Belsen. When they arrived, there was more sickness there because there was less or no food. After awhile Margot became sick with typhus. Anne tried to help, but she couldn’t.
At Bergen-Belsen, Anne was reunited with her dear friend Hanneli Goslar. Hanneli told Anne her story. Hanneli’s mother had died in October 1942. On May 20,1943, Hanneli & her family were taken to Westbork & remained there until February 1944. Now they were hostages waiting to be exchanged for German POW’s.
Hanneli tried to get Anne food for Margot, but couldn’t. And now Mr. Goslar had become sick & Hanneli couldn’t go see Anne anymore. Anne got sick too, with typhus. One night Margot lost consciousness & fell from her bunk in the barracks & died. Anne became delirious. One night she took off all he clothes because of the lice & wrapped up in a blanket. Anne died in March, 2 or 3 days after Margot. The actual date is not known.
She suffered from malnutrition & typhus; and she was killed by human cruelty.

The Jewish Camps Essay
Published on August 6, 2007 at 5:06 PM

A couple years ago, we did a WWII unit study. I love learning about that time period. It is so important to me. It was a real eye opener to tell me about the history and the sacrifice that many people gave up for my freedoms.
Here is a essay I did for our study.
The Jewish Camps
1938 was the start of the downhill struggle for the Jews. During this time, they were told they had to be inside by 5pm, they had their bikes taken from them, they could only buy from Jewish stores, they were not allowed to go to public places such as a park, theater and such.
On November 9th, 1938, an angry mob in Germany went to the Jewish settlement and started vandalizing and burning all the Jewish stores. This night is called Kristallnacht, the night of broken glass.
30,000 Jews who were trying to protect themselves were sent to concentration camps. After this they put all the Jews in Poland, in a section called “The Ghetto”. In 1939, The Germans started emptying “The Ghetto” and sent the Jews to concentration camps. They were sent in cow carts on trains. After they arrived they were separated, men to the left, women to the right. Then they were stripped, shaved and tattooed. The Germans took away all they personal belongings; rings, glasses, clothes, pictures.
They were humiliated. The Germans shaved all the hair off their heads, put them in rags and wooden clogs, then they tattooed a number on their arms. They slept in barracks with 1 blanket for about 3 people. They were given 1 cup to eat out of. If they lost the cup, they did not get another. They were given 1 piece of bread, and a cup of soup, which consisted of: Peas and potato skins per day. Their daily routine consisted of getting up before dawn, standing until they couldn’t anymore, then digging until night. If you couldn’t stand until they said, and you passed out, they burned you.
The worst camps were Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen, Birkenau.
At Auschwitz, when you arrived there was a sign that hung above the gate that said: “Work makes a person free”. Auschwitz was the worst. It was the deadliest concentration camp of World War II. That camp killed the most Jews. Birkenau was 2 miles away from Auschwitz; they were linked by railroads.
Bergen-Belsen killed 70,000. There were only 5 death camps. When trains arrived the Jews were immediately taken to the gas chambers.
Many of the Jews at the camps were told they were going to the “Showers”, which actually were acid chambers. The Germans were the only people who used gas as a war tactic.
Auschwitz was both a death and labor camp. Only 20% of every load was saved for slave labor. The highest cause of death, besides being shot by the Germans, was starvation and Typhus.
The Germans were well prepared; they had special ovens made for the cremation of the Jews.
Towards the end of the war, the Germans transported and emptied most of the camps in other countries and sent them to Germany, so they could not be set free. They killed most of the Jews around this time, although they kept some of them for exchanges for German prisoners.
When the Jews were set free a soldier asked a man “Why didn’t you kill yourself?” The man replied, “I wanted to outlive Hitler and show him we will not give up I wanted him to see we will survive.”

That's a good essay; the Holocaust has always really intruiged me. I have literally read every book about it at our library...I wanted to go to the Holocaust museum in DC, but we never got a chance to. It's so horrendous, it's amazing that those Nazis could treat the Jews (and other groups as well) that way. They must have been so heavily under the influence of the devil.
God bless you Amanda,

OK... so I posted a pic of one of my drawings a couple weeks ago. I had quite a few people tell me that they thought it was really good. I KNOW I am not a very good artist, but I thought I would humor you all with some of my other drawings... Please don’t throw any tomatoes. (please click the tomatoe link... it is HYSTERICAL!!)
Psalm 139:14 “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well”
I thank God that He gave me the gifts I have. We can't be great in everything, huh??
Ok... now to my drawings. I started to draw back in 2004 when I went to a art class at the library. We drew a pic sort of like the one I posted a few weeks ago. So over the years, I have drawn about 15 pictures... so little I know in what 3 years. LOL!! We got a Canson sketch pad, a 3B Sanford Design Drawing 3800 pencil and a 6B Sanford Design Drawing 3800 pencil. The 3B pencil is for drawing your picture and the 6B is for darkening and shading. We also got a rubber eraser that I really like and an art sharpener. So it was a really good class. The paper is actaully white. It is just the lighting that makes it looks ugly.
This one is Superman, of course. We had a Justice League coloring book, and I drew this off of that. Paulie really liked it cause it is so defined. You can kinda see my Batman drawing behind him. LOL!!

Here is one of his upper body closer.

Here is a Smallville High Crow. Its the school logo in Smallville. Joc actually drew one of these on my wall, but Mom didn't know and about fell on the floor when she saw it. It is huge!! So I washed it off a while back. There is still a bit of an out line of it though.

Here is a Lothlorien Leaf. Jocelyn painted this on our wall and that is what I used to base it on.

Here is one of the Moria Gate. I drew this off of our Lord of the Rings Extended Version DVD Case. I thought it was pretty good. What about you??

And... last one... In honor of Paulie... LOL!! I traced this way back in 2004. I really would rather draw characters, instead of just something I see. So I do alot of these type of drawings.

Well... hope you all enjoyed my art, if you want to see some real pics I posted some of my horses, our new fence, some really beautiful flowers growing around here, and a pic of Lucy and Hannie. They are some really neat pics.
I hope to get better at drawing and writing. I know God is working in me.

I love your sketches! I think they are good. They don't have to be as good as anyone else's b/c you are not expected by God to be anyone but YOU! Just focus on becoming who God made YOU to be not measuring up to self-made standards or such.
Love in Christ,
Auntie Mrs. Brown! That sounds a bit too formal still. If your mom doesn't mind, I'd prefer Auntie Christina!

It's July... Can you believe it??
Published on July 9, 2007 at 3:56 PM

Did you all notice it was the JULY already?? That means over half the year is over!! Man, where has time gone??
Its July... what have you accomplished off your list of things you wanted done this year?? Did you get half of them done??
I was going over my list and seeing what I had done or not done. I have done alot on my list, but many things are still not done. I know I can complete them, I just need to do it.
God ordained our ways and what we are to do. When we follow His guidance and will, we tend to get things done because we are on a path.
Having a schedule can really help you get what you want accomplished. We have a schedule but rarely follow it, which doesn't help us accomplish what we want to during the day. So we go to bed, discouraged because we didn't do everything we wanted to. But we wake up the next morning, refreshed and ready to hit it.
I like having a schedule. Especially with school. Having a schedule helps me know what I have to do when, and then I can accomplish it sooner.
I am looking forward to this next school year. It will be my last one. Mom just told me that my senior year will be composed mostly of writing essays, which will be really easy, cause that is what my blog is. A big essay. Fun!!
I will also finish algebra this year. I am not taking advance math, calculus, etc. My Mom took all those and can't remember a single thing from them, so why do I need to waste my time learning them?? I am going to stay home and teach my children.
I am going to be doing more American history. I have done alot of world history but not very much American and especially from like late 1800's-present. I don't really know alot about that time.
I am going to be finishing my biology. This is another subject that I am not taking alot of. I am not taking chemistry or advanced science. Not really interested in it.
And of course, I will be reading ALOT!! I will probably be reading more of homeschool teaching books, rather than fiction and such.
Other than those subjects, it will be just homemaking things. Sewing, cooking, baking, caring for the horses, taking care of the house here, just everyday things. And looking forward to getting things and myself ready for life ahead.
I really can't believe it is July already. I pray that you have accomplished most of or all that was on your 2007 to do list. I am striving to finishing mine. If you go to my right side bar right under my cbox you will find my 2007 to do list.
Some of the things I have done are: Continuing The Daily Planet as an encouragement to all, Losing weight, (I have gone down 5 skirt sizes this year. WOW!!), Having another garden (not really looking forward too), getting my license, getting horses, going to TN for Coie's bash, having Lucy, Family members birthdays, having friends come visit us.
This has been a really good year. I am thankful that I have become who I am supposed to be in this time in my life. God is watching me and caring for me everyday. I have more things to accomplish and I add to my list daily, but this year can only get better. I hope!!
Thank you all for encouraging me this past year. You are all dear to me!!
As Always...

Great post! I recently listened to an online conference series about being a writer, and one thing I am doing because of it is making a goals journal. It's not only for my writing goals, but other goals and to-do lists and schedules and things. I think we tend to get a lot more accomplished when we write things out!
It sounds like you're going to have a good school year next year! Does it feel weird to be almost done? It did for me. :-)
Love,

Thanks for the message about getting my children's hearts.

....for that inspiring post.
Okay, I'll make my confession. *deep breath* I have accomplished one thing on my 2007 to-do list. There, I said it. Kinda sad, huh? I was just thinking about that the other day, so it's funny that you would blog about it.
Of course, my plans have changed some since I made my list. College has come into the picture, as well as all the preparation that involves. Plus there were one or two things on the list that I decided were not quite so important to be done *this year*.
Still... I need to focus and work on accomplishing those things that God wants me to accomplish in the remainder of this year. Thank you for that reminder!
I hope you're having a wonderful week. :-)
Love, Ashley
PS: You said you are thankful that you have become who God wants you to be right now. That's so true.... no matter what's going on with our schedules or plans, God is constantly molding our character, making us the women He wants us to be.
God bless!

Hey Amanda!
Yeah, I always know want I want to get done in my head, but it seems when I write it down and have some sort of schedule it helps getting them done! I've never written my goals for the year down on paper, but I think that's a great idea and something I need to do!
Thanks for that post! I was very good and helpful...as usual!

P.S. I know, I know! I seriously need to do a new post! Hopefully in the next day or two! I'm helping with my church VBS this week, so it's kind of been a little busy.

I know, it's hard to believe that it's July already!!
I wouldn't say that calculus or advanced chemistry would be a waste of time. Even if you don't remember a single thing that you learned in those classes when you're older, they do stretch your mind and force you to think critically. Those are skills that everyone needs in any life that they choose to live. That's just a little different perspective on it. :-)
I agree with you about the schedule!! They help keep things so much more organized...
Regards and God bless,
Sylvia
