"One Night With The King" by 20th Century FoxFaith Films. Siol Enal gives 2 Thumbs Down.

You may have heard about it on tv, stores, even Christian Bookstores, but do not judge a book by its cover.
When we saw the previews for it, we thought it might be somewhat right, but, boy, were we wrong. I think that the parts they showed in the commercials were the only Biblically correct parts. They got the names and parts of the premise of the story correct. I think they did that on purpose. So if you were a Christian, you would think it was a good Bible story that follows the actual story.
By the 15min. mark I was really mad and ready to just quit watching it. It was that bad.
First, they start with a story that I don’t know if it is even Biblically accurate. I know a part of it is. Something about Agag, the king, that Saul didn't kill. In the story, Saul saved him and his pregnant wife. His wife escaped and had the baby boy, and she taught him revenge upon his father. So they became the Agagites, and are ever after the Jews for what they did. They have Haman as an Agagite, and that is why he wants to kill all the Jews.
They make Hadassah very whiny, manipulative, unsubmissive and very immodest.  I don’t mean her clothes, I mean her attitude and the way she acts and what she does. She is always dancing around and being giddy. She is pretty much a flirt.
They added a guy in there who was their housekeepers son, who liked Hadassah and wanted to marry her, there was one unrealistic part where they almost kiss?? I don’t ever remember that in the Bible.
Then there was this whole thing about a necklace that had the Star of David in it when it was in front of  a light and how her parents where killed when she was about 13. The way I remember the story was she was brought to Mordecai as an infant and he was raised to be a submissive, modest woman.
When she is taken to the palace she reads to the king one nite and falls in love with him and all this other junk. They didn’t get the part of Haman right either.
Just about everything in this movie is not Biblically sound. And we found out in the credits that it was based on a novel written by a Christian author. Can you believe that?? A Christian who is supposed to have read the Word changed it so much that it was a horrible movie that didn’t even line up with the Bible. Why do people think they can change the Infallible Word of the Almighty. It is a mockery to God when people, especially Christian, do that to God’s Word.
Now I know you may think that this was made by an unbeliever, but you can’t honestly say that as it was based on the Christian novel, "Hadassah: One Night with the King" by Tommy Tenney. Now I had seen this book when it came out and thought about reading it, but never did. Now I am thankful that I didn't. I just can't believe that someone who has read the Word would go and change it to make it more whatever.
It was a total love story. It wasn't even really about Esther and how she saved her people. One of the issues I had was the king and Esther had a fight about something and that was what they tied Esther saving her people into.
I don't remember all the other unBiblical parts that were in due to the fact that I didn't finish watching, but, boy, was I happy when it was over. All I could think was how much a waste of time it was to sit and watch that stupid movie!!
This is one movie I would NOT recommend for viewing. You don't want your children to think that is the story of Esther. Even VeggiesTales did a better job following the Bible that FoxFaith films. Or even Tommy Tenney.
So there you have it, 2 Thumbs Down for "One Night With The King" by 20th Century FoxFaith Films

I am going to get into my Bible this week and review this story. We did watch the movie and with a great review from friends I thought it would have been more biblically accurate. I am so glad you have pointed out some of the areas in the film that were confusing to me. Thank you for your review.

I watched the movie a few weeks ago, and I don't remember some of the particulars, nor did I form an opinion about it, but I want to thank you for what you pointed out that was not Biblically accurate. I think I had a migrain that night, so I wasn't really paying attention to the movie, but now that I've read your post, I definitely agree. Some parts were very confusing to me, and the way that they portrayed Esther was very "flirty" like you said.

P.S. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. I really appreciate your willingness to speak out and tell others what you believe in.

The New World-THUMBS WAY DOWN!!
Published on September 9, 2006 at 8:56 AM

This Article was published in MOVIES and TV Shows- Reviews

We watched "The New World" the other nite and let me tell you: DO NOT SEE IT! It did not come close to the true story of Pocahontas. It was so fictional. It was like a 70’s art movie. They had weird camera shots, they didn’t really even talk in full sentences, it was like really weird. The way they made it was really bad. There really wasn’t a story line.

I actually got lost trying to figure out what exactly was going on. I normally don’t have that problem, I can follow most movies.

I got so mad watching it though. They portrayed her as a girl who fell madly in love with 2 men. They had it so she was madly in love with John Smith, when there really was no relationship like that between them. They gave the impression that she was pregnant!

All I could think while watching besides," when will it be over." was "I am so happy I didn’t go to the theater to see this." Because it had come to the local theater and I had said something about wanting to see it, but apparently God knew better.

So here is a bad review of "The New World" by New Line Cinema.

As Ebert and Roper would say, "I give it a THUMBS DOWN!"

I will be reflecting (posting) about something actually GOOD that I gleaned from this example of bad movie making and twisting of a historical, Godly story.

Be sure to look for it! It will be entitled: Fiction or Non-Fiction- Which are you?

Thanks for the comment! Actually I’m working on earning a college degree from home. I study and take credit-by-examination tests. I’m enrolled with College Plus (www.collegeplus.org - endorsed by Doug Phillips), and they tell me what tests to take and what to study. To take the tests I have to find colleges and places that administer them. Maybe I’ll do a blog post about this so I don’t take up all your comment space. Haha. :-)

Thanks for the heads up on the thumbs down! Actually I don't think I've heard of this movie, but if I did I'd probably have wanted to see it.
It stinks when a movie you think will be good turns out to be not-so-good.
Anyway, I hope you and your family are doing well. Have a great day!

POTC2 & X-Men 3- The Last Stand
Published on July 8, 2006 at 12:20 PM

This Article was published in MOVIES and TV Shows- Reviews

We went and saw Pirates of the Caribbean last nite and ogm it was sooo GREAT!!!! I would go see it again except it was $30 for 4 people to go on a Friday nite! WHOA!!!! So we will wait til it comes to the theater here to see it again!

But it was AWESOME! I was laughing the ENTIRE time!

That is all I can tell about it because Alatariel wants too!

STAY FOR AFTER THE CREDITS!

We went and saw X-Men 3: The Last Stand a couple weeks ago. It was a good movie, though there were some things that are not for little kids. We had to look away for a few minutes.

Also if you haven’t seen and are going to, STAY TIL AFTER THE CREDITS! There is more to the movie after the credits are rolled!

All the speculation about this being the last one is just speculation, there will prob be more made.

I liked it. I thought that it could have been longer though. When my parents went and saw it, they were only gone for 1 & 45 minutes, so it didn’t seem long, but when my dad took us it did seem longer. But then we stayed til the credits rolled!

My dad’s friend is really into to comic books, so we get the inside "Scoop" from him about all the movies and stuff. And he said that the X-Men movies have followed the comic books exactly! I always luv it when a movie is made the way it was written!

Thanks for stopping by "Daily" at the "Planet"!
