First off…today is Mrs. Suarez’s birthday. So go on over to “Home Where They Belong” and wish her a happy birthday!!
Second…4evrHischild has picked the winners of the Haiku contest. Guess who won?? Yep, that’s right Timothy. I told Jocelyn that we should have bet on him winning and then she would have won. But we aren’t betting people, so Timothy wins and we don’t!!
But go over to Timothy’s blog, and tell him CONGRATULATIONS!!
OK…so this is my last horse post on The Daily Planet. Then the more theological, thoughtful posts will be back!!
I think I’m going to use: “SuperHorseSteader” for a username on Homesteadblogger. I liked "SuperHorseGirl", but Jocelyn thinks that one is too childish. Of course, she thinks she is an Elf too, so what does that tell you about what she thinks?? What you do think of those two?? Which one do you like?? I know I am being dumb about all of this, but I am drawing a blank on what to do.
Thank you for all your suggestions, they were really good. Now…I need to design a template and get that up. Oh boy!!
So the vet came yesterday…. he had a pretty bad diagnosis on Estrella. The reason she was limping: she had an abscess. Running nose: she has a respiratory virus. All of the above: underfed. Bad temper: not trained right.
An abscess is when she stepped on something metal/sharp and got a puncture wound. Since her hoof is like a toenail, it can’t swell and push the sickness out. So it gets a sore and gets infected. To fix that he had to cut off a lot of her hoof, then he had to put iodine, a drawing salve, and bandage it. He showed me how. It was pretty easy. The only thing I was worried about was her freaking out when I did it, b/c I don’t have any tranqs.
He gave her some shots: an antibiotic and tetanus. He had to tranq her too, b/c she wouldn’t let him put the bandage on and she was rearing up!! REALLY BAD!!
I think she was having a hard time b/c she had to stand there for so long, and she isn’t used to men. Also b/c she needs to be trained.
So the treatment: Abscess: I have to soak her foot in Epson salt water, then I have to bandage it up again. This is supposed go on for the next week. Then I am going to have him come out again and check on her and get her on a vaccination program.
She did really, really well today when I had to soak and bandage her. I was really surprised. I was expecting a fight but she let me soak her for 20min, and then bandage her. I was so happy she did soo well.
Respiratory virus: I have an oral antibiotic to give her with her food.
She ate everything in her bowl, so I was happy. She ate all her food with her medicine.
Underfed: The feed I am feeding them is very poor quality, so I have to get diff brand. He suggested: Nutrena SafeChoice. Grass Hay also.
I am kinda worried about the bill. I know it will be more than what I had originally thought. EEK!!
Well besides all that talk up there, they are both doing really well. Eating good, drinking good, being horsey, running and bucking all over the pasture. They are really good horses, just need some training and loving.
Well that is all for now about the horses. I will try to get my homestead blog up and running shortly. And…my homestead blog will not be only about the horses…but about living on the homestead here and life here.
OK…so I will not post more boring horse stuff for you all anymore. I will be posting theological, thoughtful, meaningful posts.
And…. I will be getting pics of them. I don’t have a digital camera, except for Mom’s phone and that doesn’t take very good pics. I will try to get one or borrow one and get pics up for you all!! I want pics too, for the Homestead blog. That would be a neat thing to do…put my own pics as my background/ template. Hmmm…. cool.
I think my next post will be about Caleb…he has been the sweetest, loving kid this past few weeks. I just love him to death. He really has been cute!! What do you think of that post??
God Bless and Keep You and Yours!! Take Care!!
Love

Horses... Horses... and more Horses...

Ok....so I have had some help now in getting a name picked out for a homestead blog. Below are the suggestions from some of the readers, and I like some of them. But it didn't seem like any of them stood out too much, except for mine and Jocelyn's. Mandy had some good suggestions though.
Also please keep Estrella in your prayers. She has been limping, has a runny nose and been breathing a bit raspy. None of these symptons mean anything good, so I have been stressed a little.
I am having a vet come out on Friday to check her and make sure she is good. I might just be making something out of nothing, but I would rather be safe than sorry. And with the recent goat troubles, there is no way I want to have a sick horse. They go downhill fast. I called the former owner and she thinks she just pulled a muscle or something, so it is prob nothing.
I have blanketed her and stalled her. I walked her out today to eat in the pasture a bit, and she LOVED it!! She doesn't like to be in her stall all the time.
Both Estrella and Dulcy are now in heat. It scared meon Sunday, when I went down to the pasture and there was a pile of reddish orange liquid. No one had dumped anything from the goat pen, so I was really worried. I called Grandma and she thought they just might have gone into heat. Sure enough they had.
I have finally gotten my Storey's Guide to Raising Horses. It has been really helpful. I think these Storey's books are really good. Jocelyn has the Goat one and Mom is getting the Poultry one. They have a lot of great info in them. I would recommend getting a Storey's if you have an animal. They have guides for: Beef Cattle, Llamas, Pigs, Chickens, Ducks, Rabbits, Sheep, Turkeys, and Poultry.
Yeah, my biceps are really sore, and are getting really big!! It is funny!! I have to carry buckets of water down to the barn everyday at least twice, so carrying them makes my arms get bigger.
I found out that I could actually ride them now. Shellie said that it would prob be a good idea to ride then bareback first, so they are used to the weight, and so we find our balance on them. Joc will be really happy. She has been bugging me about riding them bareback, cause the Elves ride bareback and she thinks she is one of them. Crazy, I know!! I am living with a girl who thinks she is an Elf. Help me!! It is extremely SCARY sometimes living with her.
I know you are thinking, "Another Horse post!!". Well sorry horses have kinda taken over!! Don't worry, I plan to have a homestead blog by Sat. and then you can have the normal posts back.
Ok...so here are the Homestead Blog name suggestions. I thought about having a contest to see who could come up with the best name, but I have no idea what to give away, so I guess I can't have a contest. Unless you can come up with a good prize and a name!!
I would the name to have Super in it, but if I can't find a good enough name with it then I won't use it. Some of mine are lame, I know, but I am at a loss. Mom and Jocelyn don't really care for any of mine. The asterisk marked are my favs.
