Health Myths 13-15 -Excerpts from The Maker's Diet

The following Myths from “The Maker’s Diet” by Jordan Rubin. It is an amazing story of how we need to get back to homeopathic remedies rather than doctors and hospitals. God has given us everything we need on earth and in our bodies. The key to getting health and not getting sick is to keeping the body in working order with what God has given our bodies to work right and the natural things that He made.
There are 27 of these myths, so I will be posting 3 every one of my blog days!!
I will also be posting what we do or believe about these Myths.
I have already posted Myths 1-3 4-6 7-9 10-12
Myths 13-15
13. Expose yourself to electromagnetic energy.
Everywhere you go, you rin into electromagnetic fields (EMFs) from television sets, microwave ovens, cell phones, and local media transmissions towers. Studies conducted over the last two decades imply possible association of EMFs with miscarriages, birth defects, leukemia, brain cancers, breast cancers, and lymphomas.
Hospital body scans (x-rays, and their computerized cousin, computerized axial tomography [CAT scans]) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) expose of us to especially high levels of EMFs. One MRI delivers radiation equal to one hundred conventional x-rays. These diagnostic tools are potentially deadly if used indiscriminately. Cellular phones may pose dangers to brain tissues due to close proximity of delicate brain tissue to powerful EMF transmitters.
The good news is that most EMF exposure can be avoided or limited because it occurs in the home through the use of electric blankets, microwaves, hair dryers, tv, and computers. Avoid getting too close to these devices while in use. Use regular blankets instead of electric ones, and make sure all appliances and electric installations in your home are in working order with all protective devices and protocols in place.
14. Use a lot of skin products, cosmetics, hair care products, nail care products, shampoos, soaps, perfumes, shaving creams, suntan lotions, and antibacterial soaps.
Beware of skin care products that cause harm by destroying the skin’s natural ph and by introducing dangerous toxins to the body. Hair coloring products used by approximately 40% of US women, particularly brown and black hair products, are associated with increased incidence of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, multiple myeloma, Hodgkin’s disease, and 20% of all non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma! (There are several brands of all natural hair-coloring products that are relatively safe) Also avoid products containing DEA or TEA-these ingredients often contain carcinogenic nitrosamine impurities. Toluene, a neurotoxic substance that triggers asthma attacks and causes asthma in previously unaffected people, was found in every fragrance sample tested by the EPA in 1991. The fragrance industry routinely uses 884 toxic substances. As for shampoos, many of the most common ingredients break down into formaldehyde. For detailed information in things to avoid and where to find good alternatives, see The Safe Shoppers Bible and Diet for a Poisoned Planet. As for antibacterial soaps, most of them contain tricolsan, which mat be absorbed through the skin and pose a risk to the liver. Plenty of regular soap, sufficiently heated water, and thorough scrubbing will do the job just as well with no side effects. Clenzology is the best cleansing plan I’ve found to date.
15. Take lots of medicines.
Every medicine has a side effect. There may be a time and place for the use of medication, but much of the prescription activity in the US perpetuates health problems by treating symptoms rather than their root causes. Medications such as antibiotics, oral contraceptives, and corticosteriods may cause major problems with the gastrointestinal terrain, damage the immune system, cause liver problems, and alter enzyme funtion. The practice of taking a baby aspirin a day to prevent heart attacks is dangerous, for instance. Aspirin can cause bleeding in the intestinal tract and can be toxic to the liver. You get similar heath benefits with no side effects by consuming foods in the Maker’s Diet such as cold water fish, fruits and veggies high in antioxidants and certain botanicals that naturally reduce the Cox 2 enzyme and provide other anti-inflammatory benefits.

What we believe and practice about Health Myths 10-12

I posted about Myths 10-12 last week. The following are what we believe and practice with those 3 Myths.
10. Get tattoos. Well I don’t think I need to emphasize on this one. We don’t get tattoos.
11. Get all of your immunization shots. We don't get immunization shots. We don’t go to doctors, or anything like that. Why would I put a virus in me just to make sure I don’t get the virus I am being inoculated for?? If I don’t have the virus, then if I put some of it in me, what do you think is going to happen?? I might get the virus and get sick. HELLO!! So needless to say we don’t get immunization shots, or anything.
12. Travel in airplanes often. We don’t really travel much. Last year, Alatariel, me and my dad flew down to New Mexico for a week, but we usually drive if we take trips. It is just to expense to fly, and we don’t think taking 7 kids to an airport is a good idea. We have thought about taking a train sometime. It might be fun. We have no problems with infertility!! Let me tell you!! LOL!!

Yes, the Navy game was very special. :)
I think my grandad liked the album, too. I'm not too artsy, but I do appreciate making a good scrapbook. My mom just made one about our dog, and one about some rabbitts that the little ones found in the yard. They turned out cute!
I'm with you on the health stuff. I'm totally against tatoos--they are just creepy. As for immunizations, I'm under immunized. I have gotten some of them, I know when I have kids they will get very few. I do get a tetanus booster occasionally. I didn't get any of the Hepatitis series, chicken pox, flu, meningococcal conjugate, etc. I think the only ones besides tetanus that I got were polio and MMR.
The same goes with the rest of my family--although I think my one brother had the chicken pox, only because I had had the pox at the time, and if he would have caught it, with his preexisting condition, he probably wouldn't have made it.
I think if my kids got to a certain age, I would think about the chicken pox, only because if you get it as an adult all the problems you can get re fertility. If they didn't have chicken pox by late teens, I might think about.
As for flying, I've been on a plane once in my life. And I was a baby, so I don't remember it.. We are like you, we mostly drive cause of how expensive it is. Not to mention, it's fun to see the country. I would like to fly sometime--I think it would be a neat experince, but we always drive.

I'm not sure I agree completely.
I read a biography of Jonas Salk when I was in Junior High (when I was homeschooled) and I was amazed by that man. It's actually a testimony to God's design that our bodies CAN be exposed to a small amount of a virus and build up the immunities to resist it and remain immune to it forever. Polio was such a horrible disease that killed so many and left others weakened for the remainder of their lives. The discovery of the Polio vaccine was a miracle and truly a gift from God. Now whether the medical profession has gotten out of control since that point with the variety and number of vaccines is another matter.
I was very naive about the subject when my kids were first born and so I prayed that the Lord would give me wisdom and peace about whether or not to have them vaccinated, I felt at peace about having them get them and He has protected them thus far from any adverse reactions. Now that I am becoming more informed, I may discontinue future vaccines, I'll continue praying.
I do appreciate posts like this one, because they challenge me to really research and not just do what everybody else is doing or whatever the doctor says to do! I really need to get my hands on the book you're reading!
Thanks for your comments on my blog too!
Blessings,
Angel

Ok, the Smallville scoop- My bro says it's likely there WILL be a next season, what they have filmed so far doesn't point towards ending the story this season. Unless of course the show gets axed by the network, which is very unlikely, as it is a good money maker!!
I also asked him why he isn't credited on the show and he had no idea he wasn't! He doesn't know why, and when he finds out he will let me know!!
BTW - I am enjoying your excerpts from "The Makers Diet". Very informative!
Take good care

LOL Yeah, I change my blog a lot. The reason I did Little Women was because I found the avatars, and they inspired me to do a Little Women theme. :-) And, I just love that movie! I'm working on a Pride and Prejudice theme to put up soon, because I have the movie and have been on a English/Victorian-ish kick lately. Plus, I have like 10 different icons and avatars, and I want to use them!! LOL
Surprisingly, DOG hasn't had a lot of posts lately. You have been asked about, though. :-) You and Jocelyn both.
I like your posts, and the way you have your sidebar right now!

We don't get our immunizations either...it's really nonsensical when you think about it! Why would you jack up your likelihood of getting a worse disease than the one that you're getting immunized for, which is the most UNlikely disease that you'd contract anyway!!! (my dad's a nurse and he gets all steamed up about immunizations...lol)

The key to getting health and not getting sick is to keeping the body in working order with what God has given our bodies to work right and the natural things that He made.

I have already posted Myths 1-3 4-6 7-9
Myths 10-12
10. Get tattoos. Scripture warns against piercing the skin. (See Leviticus 19:28) Body piercing and tattoos can easily introduce potentially deadly infections and toxic foreign substances into the body and bloodstream. Some health providers warn that even tiny puncture wounds might block important electrical nerve impulses just under the skin.
11. Get all of your immunization shots. Despite massive media and government public relations campaigns to the contrary, certain childhood immunization injections may pose considerable risks to children. Most adults today received one to five immunizations in childhood, but schoolchildren today receive an average of twenty-two or more immunizations---most of them administered while the brain and nervous systems are still developing! An epidemic of juvenile autism and other neurological and developmental disorders sweeping through America’s school age children generally coincides with the introduction of certain mandatory immunizations. A growing body of scientific and medical research appears to link this dangerous health trend to these childhood immunizations. Vijendra K. Singh, Ph.D., and eminent neuorimmunologist from the Department of Biology and Biotechnology Center at Utah State University, hypothesized in research published internationally “that a measles virus-induced autoimmune response is a causal factor in autism, whereas HHV-6 via co-infection may contribute to pathophysiology of the disorder. Although as yet unproven, I think it is an excellent working hypothesis to explain autism, and it may also help us understand why some children show autistic regression after the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) immunization.” Dr. Singh’s findings seem to confirm the results of a similar study published in the Lancet in 1998 by Dr. Andrew Wakefield and co-workers of the Royal Free Hospital in London, indicating a possible link between MMR vaccination, Crohn’s disease of the bowel, and autism. Most states allow philosophical and religious expemptions from mandatory immunization programs should you decide this is the way to go.
12. Travel in airplanes often. Some people who spend alot of time at high altitudes experience problems with infertility and oxygen production. The body adapts well to high altitudes for short periods of time, but not for long periods. Animals dwelling at heights of thirteen and fourteen thousand feet have much more difficulty conceiving and instinctively return to lower pastures for breeding. Some researchers believe the atmospheric pressures and radiation to which airplane travelers are exposed are the equivalent of hundreds of CAT scans and pose the greatest oxidative stress on the human body. (Who wants to be trapped in a small room with hundreds of sneezing, coughing people?)

What we believe and practice about the 27 Health Myths

I posted about "The 27 Health Myths that are Wrong." last week. The following are what we believe and practice with the 3 Myths that I posted then.
7. Shower everyday but don’t take baths. Hmm...I take a shower about 2x a week. I have, since reading The Maker's Diet, started to take a bath with my shower. I usually wash my hair first then fill up the tub and do the rest of my bathing. Although I do shave last and I think JenIg would agree with doing that!!
8. Swim in chlorinated pools and drink and shower in chlorinated water. NOT A CHANCE!! I luv to swim, but we have stopped b/c of the chlorine. EWW!! And we definitley DO NOT drink chlorinated water. We hate the city water and if we are going into town we usually bring our own water!! We have a well, so no problem with the showering part.
9. Don’t breast feed your baby. Well now, we know better than this!! We breastfeed!! I don't think that there is anything else that I can talk about this one!! I plan to breastfeed my children also. It's the BEST thing!!

27 Health Myths that are wrong. Excerpts from The Maker's Diet

I have already posted Myths 1-3 4-6
Myths 7-9
7. Shower everyday but don’t take baths. Excessive showering—even in the purest water—can actually rob your hair and body of the natural oils. It can also alter your body’s pH (especially if you’re using certain alkaline shampoos and soaps.) Then you have the added problem of heavily chlorinated public water supplies. (See next Myths post) If the Maker has a preference, it might be the use of ritual bathing that combined bathing (washing in a shallow bath) with sprinkling (showering for brief periods). This combination is especially beneficial for the thorough but gentle cleansing recommended for the female genital area.
8. Swim in chlorinated pools and drink and shower in chlorinated water. Chlorine is an effective bacteria killer, although some strains of bacteria are developing a resistance to chlorine. Unfortunately, chlorine is an indiscriminate killer that kills both friendly and unfriendly bacteria. It also eats through lead pipes, corrodes most metals, and harms cells and DNA strands in virtually every living thing it touches. Chlorine also introduces to our water supplies some highly carcinogenic chemicals called trihalomethanes (THMs). Studies show a strong link between chlorinated water supplies with elevated THM levels and cancers of the bladder, kidney, liver, pancreas, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, colon, and brain. It is risky enough to drink chlorinated tap water, but the mass exposure created by swimming in chlorinated pools or taking extended hot showers in chlorinated water is much more dangerous. (The heat opens skin pores and increases the already high absorption rate of chlorine through the skin.) Dogs exposed to chlorine (this is the ingredient used to bleach white bread.) get running fits, a disorder similar to many psychiatric disorders in humans.
9. Don’t breast feed your baby. Mothers, consider breastfeeding your children if you don’t want them to risk the trauma of numerous childhood diseases and if you don’t want to pay hospital bills. It will also reduce your risk of breast cancer by 25%, and it may lower the risk of postpartum depression! Mother’s milk contains cells that attack harmful beacteria in the baby’s system, and it is able to form antibodies that destroy invading viruses as well. Mother’s milk is the Maker’s perfect food for babies, delivered in the close bonds of maternal intimacy.

What we believe and practice about the 27 Health Myths
Published on October 11, 2006 at 5:28 PM
This Article was published in The Makers Diet
|
I posted about "The 27 Health Myths that are Wrong." the other day. The following are what we believe and practice with the 3 Myths that I posted then.
4. Take megavitamins Well this I have known that you should not take megavitamins since I was little. My MOM only used specific vitamins and so did I. Now we only use Shaklee or Nature's Sunshine. Those are the best ones that we have found that are natural. MOM has taken these vitamins for all of the last 4 pregnancies and through breastfeeding, and we always have healthy babies!!
5. Use fluoride toothpaste and mouthwash, and drink fluoride water. EWW!! That is soo gross!! Once we found out about how bad fluoride is for you, we stopped using anything with it in it. We even stopped the dentist from using fluoride when we got our teeth cleaned. We now use Tom's of Maine nonfluoride toothpaste. It actually tastes better than Colgate or Aquafresh. It doesn't burn either. So that is always an added +!! I think it works better than the other too. My teeth have never looked whiter!! The toothpaste contains: "xylitol to help prevent plaque, zinc citrate to control tartar, and silica for whitening." I prefer the Spearmint to the Peppermint!! We also have a well so no worries about the fluoridated water here!! I luv our water!! When we used to be in town alot we would always bring our own water, so that we wouldn't have to drink the city water!!
6. Use artificial sweeteners and avoid sugars. I have never used any the those and used to get onto my uncle about using them!! I would tell him that I didn't want him to die from cancer so he should stop using them!! When Splenda first came out we used it thinking that is was alot better for us than regular sugar, but MOM went on the www and found out how horrible it is for you and we haven't used it since. After we stopped using it we went back to plain sugar until we found out about honey. God's natural sweetener. We thought, "If the promised land was flowing with milk and HONEY, that it was probably the best way to go. Although we only use Natural Honey from our co-op. We still buy some organic sugar from there too, just in case we need it for anything or are out of honey which has happened alot!! We use about 2lbs of honey a week. The Littles LUV it!! They are always asking, "Can I have a spoonful of Honey!!" So instead of the Mary Poppins' song, "A Spoonful of Sugar" we sing "A Spoonful of Honey"!!

I NEVER use artificial sweetener of any kind- #1 it's nasty #2 it can shorten your life at the least being 10 years, and #3 I get the most horrible headache whenever I have it in anything- so I can always tell if someone used it in their dessert/tea- blech. I hate the stuff. . .
Also, I bet you and your family don't have many allergies- cause Honey from your area has been proven to rid all your outdoor allergies- also, it soothes sore throats when you put it in hot tea. Honey is good stuff!
haha!
