Dear God,
So far today, I've done all right, I haven't gossiped, I haven't lost my temper,
I haven't been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish or overindulgent.
I've very thankful for that, but in a few minutes, God,
I'm going to get out of bed, and from then on, I'm probably going to need a lot more help!
Amen!
Saw that on the wall at the car shop when I picked up the van yesterday. :) Thought it was too good to not share it! Aren't you glad that God is ALWAYS there to help? I sure am!

Ahh... Quiet Time!
Published on June 27, 2009 at 12:08 PM
This Article was published in Too True
Ever since I got my Reese Chronological Bible back in 2007, I have really loved to read the Bible. Being the orderly perfectionist that I am, it really bugged me when I would be reading the Bible and I would read about something that happened two books ago... ergh. So when I found there was a Bible that was in order, I just had to have it. I really love reading the Bible in the order of how it happened. It really is neat to realize that some things happened at the same time other things did, and some people were alive when other people were that you may not have made the connection before.
I also have a journal notebook that I have with my Bible, so anytime I read my Bible and I find something I want to remember I write it down! All this to say... I have loved reading my Chronological Bible... only thing is... its in KJV. You can read why Thou Art KJV No More. I now use the Complete Jewish Bible. I won't get into a debate about KJV vs. CJB, but I will say that I love the CJB version. The way it is translated is so much easier to read and understand. Some of my fave verses have a better interpretation in this version and it has really opened my eyes!
The point of why I'm sharing this is to impress the fact the at having a quiet time in your life is imperative to having a close relationship with ADONAI and your Savior! This past spring, ADONAI really made me realize that He longs for a relationship with me. A time where its only me and Him. A time to just worship Him and praise Him and become close to him. I mean, look at Moses for an example. He walked and talked with ADONAI! He was God's friend. Reading about the relationship between Moses and ADONAI is such an encouragement and wonderful example to look to to realize that God really does want a close relationship with his people!
I am not big into devotional books, and when I won Six Secrets To A Powerful Quiet Time by Catherine Martin from Mrs. Cindy Rushton, I was thinking, "Oh! a book to adorn my shelf that I won't ever read." Oh how I was sorely mistaken! When I took a 10 day sabbatical to straighten out some things back in March, I felt that something was missing in my daily Bible reading time. I was just standing in my room after reading my Bible and saw the Quiet Time book on my shelf, so I picked it up and started reading it. WOW! If there is one devotional you should read, this is it! The tag line for Six Secrets to a Powerful Quiet Time is "Discovering Radical Intimacy with God" and I just gotta say... I did discover that wonderful intimacy with ADONAI!
I would have to say that anyone who wants to have an intimate relationship with ADONAI should get this book and just soak it in! It is really really really awesome! I love the way this is a step by step book to really help you in your walk and show you things about it. It really opened my eyes to many things. I wanted to share some of the things that I have realized in my quiet time: Always come to ADONAI with praise and thankfulness first. Praising the Lord is the most important thing in your relationship. He is a jealous God, but more than that, He really deserves our praise. I have tried to make sure whenever I pray that I praise and thank God for what He has done for me before anything else.
Before He can do anything in your life, you have yield your everything to Him and His will for your life. You need to yield yourself to Him, so that what He wants for you, is what you want. You have to make your wants and plans His by being broken before Him and willing and ready to do what He wants. One way I do that is to just get on my face at the feet of my Savior.
Cry out to Him! He already knows what your pains and joys and He already knows your wants or what you don't want, but make them known to Him by saying them to Him. I am not sure why, but it is reassuring to me to actually make them known to Him with my own mouth, not just my thoughts or heart. There are so many more things that I have learned, but I think those are probably the most important ones. I just realized this but those three things have the acronyms: ABC. Wow! Guess having a quiet time is as easy as ABC. :) I think the purpose and meaning of quiet time can be summed up by: James 4:8 "Come close to God, and he will come close to you." You want to have a close and intimate relationship with the one who created you and who gave His life for you? Have a quiet time and you will have no choice but to draw close to Him. I promise! I have a whole bunch of things I use when I have my quiet time: Reese Chronological Bible
CJB Bible
A cheap Bible to mark favorite scriptures in.
Bible Journal
Six Secrets To A Successful Quiet Time by Catherine Martin
Devotional Journal
My Utmost For His Highest
My favorite pen
Hymns to sing There is something truly special and wonderful having a quiet time with ADONAI! I am so blessed and thankful that I have realized the utmost importance of having a quiet with the One who loves me unconditionally!
Having a Quiet Time may seem like a burden or inconvenience, but it is really a freeing and relieving time for you to get to know the Lord. You may not think you have enough hours in the day, but having a quiet time is something you must have time for. :)
Reveling in my Quiet Time,

Blooming Into Life

Proverbs 11:30
"The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who is wise wins souls."
The trees are coming to life around here with gorgeous blooms! This crab apple tree is my fave because of its beautiful deep pink blossoms that bloom every spring. Every time I see a bloom on it, it reminds me that I want God to bring me to life to live completely for Him, so that He can use me to be a witness and a help to others!
Living fully for Him!

April Foolishness?
Published on April 1, 2009 at 1:51 AM
This Article was published in Too True
This is a repost from last April 1st.
April Fool's is not one big joke! It is a day that is meant to torment others and a lot of people take it too far! April Fool's Day to me is just the Atheist's Holiday really...
Psalm 14:1
“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.” Why don't we take this April Fool's Day and minister and spread the Gospel with others and prove to them there is a God? Let's change the meaning of the day and prove them wrong instead of joining in with them!

I would encourage you to take this quiz put together by Elizabeth and AnnaSofia Botkin: Are You A Fool? The questions are very thought-provoking and make you take a deep look into yourself!
The origin of April Fool's Day remains clouded in obscurity. Really no one knows exactly where, when, or why people began it. What we do know is that references to 'All Fool's Day' (what April Fool's Day was first called) began to appear in Europe during the late Middle Ages.
It was a folk celebration and elite participation in it was minimal (which is why it's so difficult to trace the exact origin of the day. People celebrating it back then weren't the kind of people who kept records of what they did). What is clear is that the tradition of a day devoted to foolery has ancient roots. Because no one knows for sure how it was started, there are many different ways that different civilizations celebrated. There are: Ancient Roots
Throughout antiquity numerous festivals included celebrations of foolery and trickery. The Saturnalia, a Roman winter festival observed at the end of December, was the most important of these. It involved dancing, drinking, and general merrymaking. People exchanged gifts, slaves were allowed to pretend that they ruled their masters, and a mock king, the Saturnalicius princeps (or Lord of Misrule), reigned for the day. By the fourth century AD the Saturnalia had transformed into a January 1 New Year's Day celebration, and many of its traditions were incorporated into the observance of Christmas. In late March the Romans honored the resurrection of Attis, son of the Great Mother Cybele, with the Hilaria celebration. This involved rejoicing and the donning of disguises. Further afield in India there was Holi, known as the festival of color, during which street celebrants threw tinted powders at each other, until everyone was covered in garish colors from head to toe. This holiday was held on the full-moon day of the Hindu month of Phalguna (usually the end of February or the beginning of March). Northern Europeans observed an ancient festival to honor Lud, a Celtic god of humor. And there were also popular Northern European customs that made sport of the hierarchy of the Druids. All of these celebrations could have served as precedents for April Fool's Day. Medieval Roots
During the middle ages, a number of celebrations developed which served as direct predecessors to April Fool's Day. The most important of these was the Festus Fatuorum (the Feast of Fools) which evolved out of the Saturnalia. On this day (mostly observed in France) celebrants elected a mock pope and parodied church rituals. The church, of course, did its best to discourage this holiday, but it lingered on until the sixteenth century. Following the suppression of the Feast of Fools, merrymakers focused their attention on Mardi Gras and Carnival. There was also the medieval figure of the Fool, the symbolic patron saint of the day. Fools became prominent in late medieval Europe, practicing their craft in a variety of settings such as town squares and royal courts. Their distinctive dress remains well known today: multicolored robe, horned hat, and sceptre and bauble. Mythological Roots
There have been quite a few attempts to provide mythological explanations for the rise of April Fool's Day.
It was once popular to attempt to christianize celebrations by locating its origin somewhere in Biblical traditions. In one such version, the day's origin is attributed to Noah's mistake of sending a dove out from the ark before the flood waters had subsided (thereby sending the dove on a fool's errand). A second story tells that the day commemorates the time when Jesus was sent from Pilate to Herod and back again. The phrase "Sending a man from Pilate to Herod" (an old term for sending someone on a fool's errand) was often pointed to as proof of this origin theory. But there are rival mythological explanations linking the celebration to pagan roots. For instance, April Fool's Day was often traced back to Roman mythology, particularly the myth of Ceres and Proserpina. In Roman mythology Pluto, the God of the Dead, abducted Proserpina and brought her to live with him in the underworld. Proserpina called out to her mother Ceres (the Goddess of grain and the harvest) for help, but Ceres, who could only hear the echo of her daughter's voice, searched in vain for Proserpina. The fruitless search of Ceres for her daughter (commemmorated during the Roman festival of Cerealia) was believed by some to have been the mythological antecedent of the fool's errands popular on April 1st. British folklore links April Fool's Day to the town of Gotham, the legendary town of fools located in Nottinghamshire. According to the legend, it was traditional in the 13th century for any road that the King placed his foot upon to become public property. So when the citizens of Gotham heard that King John planned to travel through their town, they refused him entry, not wishing to lose their main road. When the King heard this, he sent soldiers to the town. But when the soldiers arrived in Gotham, they found the town full of lunatics engaged in foolish activities such as drowning fish or attempting to cage birds in roofless fences. Their foolery was all an act, but the King fell for the ruse and declared the town too foolish to warrant punishment. And ever since then, April Fool's Day has supposedly commemorated their trickery. The Calendar-Change Theory
The most widespread theory about the origin of April Fool's Day involves the Gregorian calendar reform of the late sixteenth century. The theory is that in 1582 France became the first country to switch from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar established by the Council of Trent (1563). This switch meant that the beginning of the year was moved from the end of March to January 1. Those who failed to keep up with the change, and stubbornly clung to the old calendar system by continuing to celebrate the New Year during the week that fell between March 25th (known in England as Lady Day) and April 1st, had various jokes played on them. Pranksters would surreptitiously stick paper fish to their backs. The victims of this prank were given the epithet Poisson d'Avril, or April Fish. Thus, April Fool's Day was born. The calendar change hypothesis might provide a reason for why April 1st specifically became the date of the modern holiday. It is clear that the idea of a springtime festival honoring misrule and mayhem had far more ancient roots. In addition, the process by which the observance of the day spread from France to protestant countries such as Germany, Scotland, and England is left unexplained by this theory. These nations only adopted the calendar change during the eighteenth century, at a time when the tradition of April Foolery had already been well established throughout Europe. Finally, it is not clear what evidence, besides conjecture, supports the theory. For which reason, while there's certainly a possibility that the calendar-change hypothesis contains a germ of truth, it should not be regarded as fact.
hattip: http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/aforigin.html Here is a look at what some countries did for All Fool's Day:
In Scotland , for instance, April Fool's Day is devoted to spoofs involving the buttocks and as such is called Taily Day. The butts of these jokes are known as April 'Gowk', another name for cuckoo bird. The origins of the "Kick Me" sign can be traced back to the Scottish observance. In England, jokes are played only in the morning. Fools are called 'gobs' or 'gobby' and the victim of a joke is called a 'noodle.' It was considered back luck to play a practical joke on someone after noon. In Rome, the holiday is known as Festival of Hilaria, celebrating the resurrection of the god Attis, is on March 25 and is also referred to as "Roman Laughing Day." In Portugal , April Fool's Day falls on the Sunday and Monday before lent. In this celebration, many people throw flour at their friends. The Huli Festival is celebrated on March 31 in India . People play jokes on one another and smear colors on one another celebrating the arrival of Spring. hattip: http://www.april-fools.us/history-april-fools.htm So basically, as we all know, All Fool's Day is to make a fool out of someone. Really nice, huh? Uhh... I am thinking no!
In going through the origins and such of All Fool's Day, I also wanted to take a look at what the Bible says about fools.
But before I do that, I had to find out what the word Fool meant. Not that I don't know already, but to get a clear wording I searched the dictionary.
Fool
1. One who is destitute of reason, or the common powers of understanding; an idiot. 2. In common language, a person who is somewhat deficient in intellect, but not an idiot; or a person who acts absurdly; one who does not exercise his reason; one who pursues a course contrary to the dictates of wisdom.
3. In scripture, fool is often used for a wicked or depraved person; one who acts contrary to sound wisdom in his moral deportment; one who follows his own inclinations, who prefers trifling and temporary pleasures to the service of God and eternal happiness.
4. A weak christian; a godly person who has much remaining sin and unbelief.
5. A term of indignity and reproach.
6. One who counterfeits folly; a buffoon; as a king's fool.
7. To play the fool, to act the buffoon; to jest; to make sport. So its not a good thing to be a fool... I especially noticed that after seeing what the Bible had to say about Fools.
I searched Fools, Foolish and Jesting
Proverbs 3:35
The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.
Proverbs 14:9
Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour. Proverbs 15:2
The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. Ephesians 5:15-16
See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Proverbs 12:23
A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness. Proverbs 14:24
The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.
Proverbs 15:7
The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.
Proverbs 24:9
The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.
1 Corinthians 3:19
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
Ephesians 5:3-5
But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
For this ye know, that no wh*remonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. All of this goes to say that being a fool is not wise or Godly. God takes no delight in foolishness. I would say that taking part in All Fool's Day, whether you are fooling someone or being fooled yourself, that it is not pleasing to God.
Not to mention that since All Fool's Day is pretty much pagan, I wouldn't want to take part in it. I also got to thinking about what we could do instead of making fools of others and ourselves. The Bible mentions many things we can do to encourage and lift up one another. The word I found that the Bible mentions is edifying.
The meaning is:
Edifying
Building up in christian knowledge; instructing; improving the mind. So to edify is to encourage, lift up and benefit others. I found that the Bible has quite a few that talk about edifying. Ephesians 4:12
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Ephesians 4:29
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 1 Timothy 1:4
Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
I don't know about you, but I want to edify and lift up my friends! Not put them down by making a fool of them on any day. Besides if I make a fool of someone else, I am in essence making a fool of myself! Let us instead edify and lift one another up this All Fool's Day! In Christ our Lord!
Love, Prayers and Blessings,

Hell
Published on February 18, 2009 at 12:16 AM
This Article was published in Too True
I have been doing a lot of reading and studying on hell. I started out as just reading and studying the Scriptures trying to find where it says something about Christ going to hell to get the "keys of hell and of death" after the crucifixion, but it turned into a study and I wanted to share. I have found that there is really no specific scripture that says Christ went to hell, but you will find in the New Testament where it talks about it:
Matthew 12:40
For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Acts 2:27
"Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption."
Acts 2:31
"He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption."
There is a great debate over whether Christ actually went to hell, whether hell is a real place and where exactly hell is. I do not believe it is my place to persuade you one way or the other. That is for the Holy Spirit to do. There are a lot of different perspectives you need to look at in order to get a better understanding of Christ going to hell, and if hell is what we think it is, if hell is real and where hell is. I found some very good articles in my searchings about Christ going to hell and why it is biblical that He did go there.
Did Christ Really Go To Hell?
Three Days and Three Nights, Christ In The Underworld
Those articles are full of scripture, and I love that they don't take the scriptures and turn them around to make it fit what they are saying. They say what the Bible says. Period. I would encourage you to take some time to read and ponder those articles. It is so important that we know the Bible, and scriptures, and that we know what we believe. Now I believe that Christ did go to hell. Here is why I believe this:
When Christ was on the cross He bore the sins of every person that had lived, that was living and that would live. EVERY PERSON! The cost of those sins is death. The Bible clearly tells us that:
Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
If we die in sin, we go to hell:
Jude 1:7
"Suffering the vengeance of eternal fire."
That means that since Christ had all the sins of the entire world on Him, He had to go to hell. The payment for my sins is death and hell. Because Christ took all my sins on the cross, He took my place and went to hell for me. If He hadn't gone to hell my sins would not be paid in full. It is imperative to realize that if Christ didn't go to hell, our payment for our sins which is death and going to hell would not have been paid to the full amount. Only through Christ going to hell are our sins completely paid! While Christ was in hell, He took from Satan: Revelation 1:18
"the keys of hell and of death."
Christ now has the power of hell and death and that means that through Christ we can overcome death and not go to hell through His salvation.
Titus 2:11
"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men."
That is why I believe that Christ went to hell after His death on the cross. It is strange to think that our Savior, Jesus Christ, died and went to hell, but He had to because when He died He was sin. Now about hell...
On a recent trip to the library, I found the book, "23 Minutes in Hell" by Bill Wiese. I wasn't going to read it at first. I had checked it out to ask Mama about something with it, but I did end up reading it and I am glad I did. This book ties into what I had been studying about Christ, hell, and such. I really like how Mr. Wiese uses only King James Version scriptures for his material. I LOVE how he uses the scriptures to explain what he is talking about. This book is very eye opening. Not only does this book share Mr. Wiese's story about his experience in hell, but he goes much further and uses scriptures to answer common questions about hell and why it is important that everyone realize it is a REAL place! I would highly recommend EVERYONE read this book. It always amazes me and I just love it when you read something you have read a 100 times and you learn something new every time you read it. One thing that really struck me while I was reading this book is this: Matthew 25:41
"the everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:"
I know I have read that verse before, but a lightbulb went on in my head when I read that again! Hell was created for satan and his demons ONLY! God did not create hell as a place to send humans. God is a loving, just, caring Father. He loves His creation. He does not want to send His children to a fiery inferno for eternity. We must realize that hell was created for the sole purpose of having Lucifer and his fallen angels live there as punishment for their rebellion to God. God did not create hell to be a place for humans. Reading that scripture and realizing that hell is not a place for humans is so eye opening. He does NOT want any person to go to hell.
2 Peter 3:9
"Not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."
It is really a smack in the face of God when people say God is "jealous and proud of it, a petty, unjust, unforgiving control freak, a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser, a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." -The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. God is the opposite of all those things, except for maybe being jealous.
Exodus 34:14
"For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:"
We all know why He is jealous. It is not a hateful jealous or a murdering jealous, it is a jealousy against things that take our attention away from Him. God is so very loving.
1 John 4:8-10
"He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins."
He wants NO ONE to go to hell and burn for eternity. He loves us, His creation, so much! So much that He sent His only son to take our place in death and hell. Now think about that: satan is the opposite of God completely, and God created hell for satan and his demons only. God sent His son to earth to take every human being's place in hell. God's son went to hell which is the place made for satan. Does that speak volumes to you like it does to me? How that must have pained God to have His son, Jesus, go to a place that He created for the rebellious Lucifer just for us humans. How can people think God doesn't love us?
Romans 5:8-9
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him."
God sending His son to die for us is Love itself! Through Christ and His blood we are saved from the wrath of going to hell ourselves! It is sad to me that people and even some Christians believe that hell is not a real place. It is so important that you realize hell is real and if you do not accept Christ's gift of salvation, you will go to hell and will forever live in torment just as the rich man lived in torment: Luke 16:19-31
"There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead."
Friends, it is so important that we share with everyone that hell is real and that if you do not accept the salvation of Christ, you will go there. We need to be those who testify so that others are not sent into the torment of hell. We need to be the people that the Rich Man wanted sent to his father's house so his five brothers would not have the same ending as he did.
It is so important that we know the scriptures, so we can confidently share them with those who are lost and do not know them. I was so moved when I read in the latest Voice of the Martyrs newsletter about Shen and Jin, who are teenagers in China, have read the Bible ALL THE WAY through more than 50 times! 50 TIMES! These teenagers live in a country that being a christian is punishable by death and reading the Bible is outlawed and yet they have read all 66 books of the Bible 50 times. They are also risking their lives sharing the Gospel with all those they meet! I am ashamed to say I have never read the Bible through and yet I have grown up as a Christian my whole life.
I believe the time is growing near when it will be imperative that the believers know the word of God and have an understanding of it. It is time for the believers of Christ to get back to being HOT christians and not luke warm. It is time for believers to study their Bibles and ask God to minister to them so they will be equipped. It is time to "Be Defenseless Before the Lord" and seek His will.
I am ready to be ON FIRE for Christ! I want to know His will and seek His face. I want people to know that I serve a wonderful and loving God!
I believe that hell is real and that the wages of my sin was death and eternal life in hell. I believe that Christ took my sins upon Himself on the cross and when He died He went to hell and left my sins there and PAID for them in full and I am now free and under His blood to live an everlasting life with Him.
What do you believe?

'Yes sir,' the student says.
'So you believe in God?'
'Absolutely.'
'Is God good?'
'Sure! God's good.'
'Is God all-powerful? Can God do anything?'
'Yes.'
'Are you good or evil?'
'The Bible says I'm evil.'
The professor grins knowingly. 'Aha! The Bible!' He considers for a moment. 'Here's one for you. Let's say there's a sick person over here and you can cure him. You can do it. Would you help him? Would you try?'
'Yes sir, I would.'
'So you're good...!'
'I wouldn't say that.'
'But why not say that? You'd help a sick and maimed person if you could. Most of us would if we could. But God doesn't.'
The student does not answer, so the professor continues. 'He doesn't, does he? My brother was a Christian who died of cancer, even though he prayed to Jesus to heal him How is this Jesus good? Hmmm? Can you answer that one?'
The student remains silent.
'No, you can't, can you?' the professor says. He takes a sip of water from a glass on his desk to give the student time to relax.
'Let's start again, young fella Is God good?'
'Er...yes,' the student says.
'Is Satan good?'
The student doesn't hesitate on this one. 'No.'
'Then where does Satan come from?'
The student : 'From...God...'
'That's right. God made Satan, didn't he? Tell me, son. Is there evil in this world?'
'Yes, sir.'
'Evil's everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything, correct?'
'Yes.'
'So who created evil?' The professor continued, 'If God created everything, then God created evil, since evil exists, and according to the principle that our works define who we are, then God is evil.'
Without allowing the student to answer, the professor continues: 'Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things, do they exist in this world?'
The student: 'Yes.'
'So who created them?'
The student does not answer again, so the professor repeats his question. 'Who created them? There is still no answer. Suddenly the lecturer breaks away to pace in front of the classroom. The class is mesmerized. 'Tell me,' he continues onto another student. 'Do you believe in Jesus Christ, son?'
The student's voice is confident: 'Yes, professor, I do.'
The old man stops pacing. 'Science says you have five senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Have you ever seen Jesus?'
'No sir. I've never seen Him'
'Then tell us if you've ever heard your Jesus?'
'No, sir, I have not.'
'Have you ever actually felt your Jesus, tasted your Jesus or smelt your Jesus? Have you ever had any sensory perception of Jesus Christ, or God for that matter?'
'No, sir, I'm afraid I haven't.'
'Yet you still believe in him?'
'Yes.'
'According to the rules of empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your God doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?'
'Nothing,' the student replies. 'I have my faith.'
'Yes, faith,' the professor repeats. 'And that is the problem science has with God. There is no evidence, only faith.'
The student stands quietly for a moment, before asking a question of his own. Professor, is there such thing as heat?'
'Yes,' the professor replies. 'There's heat.'
'And is there such a thing as cold?'
'Yes, son, there's cold too.'
'No sir, there isn't.'
The professor turns to face the student, obviously interested. The room suddenly becomes very quiet. The student begins to explain.
'You can have lots of heat, even more heat, super-heat, mega-heat, unlimited heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat, but we don't have anything called 'cold'. We can hit up to 458 degrees below zero, which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold; otherwise we would be able to go colder than the lowest -458 degrees. Everybody or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-458 F) is the total absence of heat. You see, sir, cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat we can measure in thermal units because heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.'
Silence across the room. A pen drops somewhere in the classroom, sounding like a hammer.
'What about darkness, professor. Is there such a thing as darkness?'
'Yes,' the professor replies without hesitation. 'What is night if it isn't darkness ?'
'You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is not something; it is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light, but if you have no light constantly you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? That's the meaning we use to define the word. In reality, darkness isn't. If it were, you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?'
The professor begins to smile at the student in front of him. This will be a good semester. 'So what point are you making, young man?'
'Yes, professor. My point is, your philosophical premise is flawed to start with, and so your conclusion must also be flawed.'
The professor's face cannot hide his surprise this time. 'Flawed? Can you explain how?'
'You are working on the premise of duality,' the student explains. 'You argue that there is life and then there's death; a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life, just the absence of it.' 'Now tell me, professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?'
'If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, young man, yes, of course I do'
'Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?'
The professor begins to shake his head, still smiling, as he realizes where the argument is going. A very good semester, indeed.
'Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you now not a scientist, but a preacher?'
The class is in uproar. The student remains silent until the commotion has subsided.
'To continue the point you were making earlier to the other student, let me give you an example of what I mean.' The student looks around the room. 'Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the professor's brain?' The class breaks out into laughter.
' Is there anyone here who has ever heard the professor's brain, felt the professor's brain, touched or smelled the professor's brain? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, with all due respect, sir. So if science says you have no brain, how can we trust your lectures, sir?' Now the room is silent. The professor just stares at the student, his face unreadable.
Finally, after what seems an eternity, the old man answers. 'I guess you'll have to take them on faith.'
'Now, you accept that there is faith, and, in fact, faith exists with life,' the student continues. 'Now, sir, is there such a thing as evil?'
Now uncertain, the professor responds, 'Of course, there is. We see it every day. It is in the daily example of man's in humanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil.'
To this the student replied, 'Evil does not exist sir , or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light.'
The professor sat down.
What a wonderful way to explain the goodness and need for God! God is good all the time, all the time God is good! Psalm 34:8
O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
