Abraham: A Faithful Man of God

(Taken from the TruthQuest Inductive Student Bible)

Genesis 12:1-9

Then the Lord told Abram, "Leave your country, your relatives, and your father’s house, and go to the land that I will show you. I will cause you to become the father of a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and I will make you a blessing to others. I will bless those that bless you and curse those that curse you. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you."

So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed him and Lot went with him. Abram was 75 years old when he left Haran. He took his wife, Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all this wealth—livestock and all the people who had joined his household at Haran—and finally arrived in Canaan. Traveling through Canaan, they came to place near Shechem and set up camp beside the oak at Moreh. At that time, the area was inhabited by the Canaanites.

Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, "I am going to give this land to your offspring." And Abram built an altar there to commemorate the Lord’s visit. After that, Abram traveled southward and set up camp on the hill country between Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar and worshipped the Lord. Then Abram traveled south by stages toward the Negev.

Actually this is the perfect example for what has been a subject that has been talked about here for a couple of months. We have recently talked about moving back to Las Cruces, NM, because we have a lot of family down there, and family is very important to my parents. Only if we feel that God wants us to do that.

I have told them that if they do decide that we need to move back down there that I wasn’t going with them. It would be very hard to up and leave the life, friends and things that I have here. But Abraham did it. That took a LOT of faith to up and leave home. I don’t think I could do it. There is a song by Jonah33 that is a really good prayer that we should all think about. Here are the lyrics

"I Have Heard about the Days of old About the men who followed You And how they saw the Supernatural And became the chosen few So I come before You now Tearing off my earthly crowns for this one thing I have Found

I want Faith Like That To see the dead rise or to see You pass by Oh I,I want Faith Like That Whatever the cost I'll suffer the loss, Oh I I want Faith Like

That I'm not Looking for a miracle Signs and Wonders are things thereof I caught a glimps of what You want from me and what I have is not enough I read the story one more time of Those who gave to You Their lives With no fear or compromise

I want Faith Like That To see the dead rise or to see You pass by Oh I, I want Faith Like That Whatever the cost I'll suffer the loss,

Oh I I want the Faith That can move any mountain and send them to the sea I want the Faith that can break every stronghold That keeps you, keeps you from me

I want Faith Like That To see the dead rise or to see You pass by Oh I, I want Faith Like That I want Faith Like That To see the dead rise or to see You pass by Oh I, I want Faith Like That Whatever the cost I'll suffer the loss, Oh I I want Faith Like That, a Faith like that "

When I was reading this, it made me think of that song and I really think that that is what we all want to do. This past Easter has really opened my eyes to the things that have been done for me that I really don’t deserve.

So my prayer for this week is that my faith would grow enough that if God decides that we need to move back then I can understand that there is a bigger plan that I, a 16 year old girl, cannot yet see, but I know that if I follow after God that he will give me the desire of my heart. That is my prayer.

Thanks for spending your precious time reading the opinions of a16 year old that wants to be a girl after God’s own heart

Luv

That is very interesting. Abraham did have alot of faith. It would take a lot of nerve to leave what you have been with for so many years. But God is trustworthy to show you what you need to do when the time comes.

P.S. thanks for leaving a comment.

With you on the Quest,

Abraham’s Biography

(Taken from the TruthQuest Inductive Student Bible)

You might think that a man who God called "my friend" and who other still call "the father of many nations" and "man of faith" would have a squeaky clean spiritual record. But I, Abraham, was not such a flawless man.

I was the man God chose thousands of years ago to become the father of a new nation of people, the Jews. It would eventually be thought the Jews that Jesus, the Messiah, would come to earth. While I was living in a city called Haran in the Middle East, God called me to leave my father’s family and my home and go to a land unknown to me –"the land that I will show to you", in God’s words. God promised me that he would do amazing things through me. I obeyed God’s voice and at the age of 75 set out on a brand new adventure of Faith.

Yet it wasn’t long before my faith in God’s protection grew thin. In Egypt I became afraid that if Pharaoh knew that Sarai was my wife, he would have me killed and take her for himself—so I persuaded her to say that she was my sister. When Pharaoh found out, he was furious and ejected Sarai and I from his country. (Amazingly, I made the same mistake quite a while later with King Abimelech.)

Even after the incident in Egypt, God again promised me that I would become the father of a great nation---but I had a question. How could this be, since I was an old man and no children? God promised me that I would yet become a father. One of the most famous and important verses in the Old Testament tells what happened next, " Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord declared him righteous because of his faith."(Genesis 15:6). After a few more lapses in judgment, at the age of 100 (When I was "too old to be a father", (Romans 4:19) according to the Apostle Paul) I did become the father of Isaac and so became our chief Old Testament example of what it means to live by faith. My life proves that to be a person of faith you don’t have to be perfect—but you do have to trust God, even when it seems like an impossible thing to do.

Sincerely

         -Abraham

Noah A Righteous Man of God-Wish I was like him
Published on April 12, 2006 at 2:32 PM

This Article was published in What the Bible means to me-a 16 year old Girl on her way to becoming a Woman of God

Noah: A Righeous Man of God

Genesis 6:6-9 (NLT)

So the Lord was sorry he had even made them. It broke his heart. And the Lord said, "I will completely wipe out this human race that I have created. Yes, and I will destroy all the animals and birds, too. I am sorry that I ever made them." But Noah found favor with the Lord.

This is the history of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless man living on earth at the time. He consistently followed God’s will and enjoyed a close relationship with him.

Genesis 9:1-17

God blessed Noah and his sons and told them,

"Multiply and fill the earth. All the wild animals, large and small, and all the birds and fish will be afraid of you. I have placed them in your power. I have given them to you for food, just as I have given you grain and vegetables. But you must never eat animals that still have their lifeblood in them. And murder is forbidden. Animals that kill people must die, and any person who murders must be killed. Yes, you must execute anyone who murders another person, for to kill a person is to kill a living being made in God’s image. Now you must have many children and repopulate the earth. Yes, multiply and fill the earth!"

Then God told Noah and his sons,

"I am making a covenant with you and your descendants, and with the animals you have brought with you –all these birds and livestock and wild animals. I solemnly promise never to send another flood to kill all living creatures. I am giving you a sign as evidence of my eternal covenant with you and all living things. I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is a sign of my permanent promise to you and all the earth. When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will be seen in the clouds, and I will remember my promise with you and with everything that lives.

Then God said to Noah,

"Yes, this is the sign of my covenant with all the creature of the earth."

I wish I were like Noah. Find favor in God’s eyes, be a righteous woman in His sight, blameless among the people of my time, and walk with God daily. But it is so hard just to find time to read my bible and pray, let alone all the rest of the things Noah was.

There are so many things that take us away from being all those things that we just give up trying. I think that the point of Noah’s life is that he never gave up. It was probably just as hard back then as it is now, and yet he was blameless among the people of his time. I am sure there was similar temptations as to the ones there are now.

God knows our hearts and He knows what we are really like inside. He knows that the only thing we long to be is a holy, righteous, blameless, person that wants to walk and talk with him.

Noah’s Biography

(Taken from the TruthQuest Inductive Student Bible)

When people think about me and my life, they probably think of words such as ark, flood, and rainbow. Even though these objects and events played a large role in my life, there was actually more to me than just a giant flood. Here are ten facts from my life:

              1. You might say I invented the process of fermentation.

              2. I didn’t become a father until I was 500 years old.

              3. I was a farmer.

              4. I once got angry with my youngest son and swore he’d become a slave.

              5. God once personally promised me that He would never again repeat the terrible worldwide flood.

             6. The flood came when I was 600 years old.

             7. I was the father of three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

             8. I found favor in God’s eyes; He called me a righteous man,   blameless among the name of the people of my time, and said I walked with Him.

             9. My father’s name was Lamech.

           10. And, of course, I lived on a floating zoo for 12 ½ months.

Sincerely

              -Noah

He had to have a lot of faith to build an ark when it had never rained up until that time. Did you ever come across Noah's wife's name? I've tried to find it but usually refer to her as Mrs. Noah.

Job's First Speech-Blame & Troubles
Published on April 4, 2006 at 4:46 PM

This Article was published in What the Bible means to me-a 16 year old Girl on her way to becoming a Woman of God

Job’s First Speech

 Job 3:1-26 (NLT)

At last Job spoke, and he cursed the day of his birth. He said,

"Curse the day of my birth, and cursed be the night when I was conceived. Let that day be turned to darkness. Let it be lost even to God on high, and let it be shrouded in darkness. Yes, let the darkness and utter gloom claims it for its own. Let a black cloud overshadow it, and let the darkness terrify it. Let that night be blotted off the calendar, never again to be counted among the days of the year, never again to appear among the months. Let that night be barren. Let it have no joy. Let those who are experts at cursing –those who are ready to rouse the Leviathan—curse that day. Let its morning stars remain dark. Let it hope for light, but in vain; may it never see the morning light. Curse it for its failure to shut my mother’s womb, for letting me be born to all this trouble.

"Why didn’t I die at birth as I came from the womb? Why did my mother let me live? Why did she nurse me at her breasts? For if I had died at birth, I would be at peace now, asleep and at rest. I would rest with the world’s kings and prime ministers, famous for their great constructions. I would rest with the wealthy princes whose palaces were filled with gold and silver. Why was I not buried like a stillborn child, like a baby who never lived to see the light? For in death the wicked cease from troubling, and the weary are at rest. Even prisoners are at ease in death, with no guards to curse them. Rich and poor are there alike, and the slave is set free.

"Oh, why should light be given to the weary, and life to those in misery? They long for death, but it won’t come. They search for death more eagerly than for hidden treasure. It is a blessed relief when they finally die, when they find the grave. Why is life given to those with no future, those destined by God to live in distress? I cannot eat for sighing; my groans pour out like water. What I always feared has happened to me. What I dreaded most has come to be. I have no peace, no quietness, I have no rest; instead, only trouble comes."

WOW! I know that sometimes bad things happen to people, and they say things like "I wish I had never been born", but Job actually had a pretty good reason. Man, how would I feel if my son had had all this happen to him, and then he blames me. I don’t know if his mother was alive when this happened or not, but I can’t imagine him blaming his mother. I mean look at how we blame each other now; I guess we really didn’t learn anything about blame since. Everybody has hard times, not like this I’m guessing, but there really is no one to blame for some things. And we definitely can’t blame God. He said in the WORD that he will not test us more than we can bear. So with that in mind, Job probably didn’t have it as bad as it could have been had God not made that promise. So if you are in a troublesome position that is wearing you down take your Bible and read about Job. Then talk to God about it. Cause he knows how much you can handle.

Job's Biography

(Taken from the TruthQuest Inductive Student Bible)

You know how some reputations are earned, but others get created by mistakes?I mean, the reputation says one thing but the reality is something else. I think that true of me. I hear people talk about "the patience of Job" when referring to some bad times I went through, but let me tell you something: I wasn't patient at all. I just couldn't do anything about my troubles!

Many years ago I was a wealthy businessman who lived in Uz, content with my life and satisfied in my relationship with God. I had a wife, ten children, and more wealth than any of my neighbors. Then, starting on one awful day, everything changed.

In quick succession I lost my wealth, my kids, and finally health. I felt shell shocked and angry. How could such tragedies happen to me? I hadn't done anything wrong (although some of my "friends" tried to tell me I must hace commited some secret sin to deserve all this adveristy). Even my wife told me to "curse God and die", which I refused to do. I suffered like this for a long time---but NOT patiently, mind you. I kept asking God, "Why are you doing this to me?" I demanded to speak face to face with Him so I could prove I didn't deserve such terrible treatment. What a mistake!

Eventually God did just what I asked for. He appeared to me face to face---but the encounter wasn't what I had so foolishly expected. He forcefully reminded me that He was God and I wasn't, and that He was Creator and I was His creation. I got the point immediantly and repented of my ignorant demands (He never did answer my questions, but that didn't seem to matter to anyone). In the end He restored my health and doubled my fortune, and gave me ten more beautiful children. He instructed me to pray for my friends, who had been as foolish as I was, and life has been good ever since. I'm an old man now---it's been almost 140 years since all this happened---and I've seen four generations of children in my family. Life is good--and so is GOD! I won't forget that again.

Sincerely

                     -Job
