I didn't get up early to do any "soaking prayer." I prayed in the shower, as is my custom. My own version of soaking prayer!
Among other things, I prayed quite earnestly that the Lord would encourage my husband today. We've had no real news regarding possible teaching jobs in a while.
When DH came home this evening, he was obviously tired and down. After he checked e-mail, I asked if he'd heard from anyone. Answer: no, and it's pretty discouraging. So, I went back to the kitchen and went about my tasks, asking God why he didn't answer my prayer. Not in an uppity way...I figured He must have a good reason for saying "No," or at least, "Not today." He's a lot wiser than I, after all. Then it occurred to me, "Today isn't over yet." Not only that, scripture encourages us to keep asking, seeking and knocking. Persistently. So, I asked God again to give my husband hope.
A few moments later, the phone rang. Wouldn't it be great if this were a college, I thought, heading over to pick it up. The woman on the other end asked to speak to my husband. I asked, "May I tell him who's calling?" thinking it was a solicitor. She said, "Yes, this is so-and-so, from such-and-such college, about a position he applied for."
The long and short of it is that he is still in the running for that position and he may be included in phone interviews soon. DH doesn't want to get his hopes up, but it really did cheer him up some. He had been despondent when he came in.
Thank you, Lord, for showing me that you hear my prayers! Thank you for your compassion toward us!
I'm setting up an "Answers to Prayer" category for this one. |
