A friend of mine showed me a clever way to fold a plastic grocery bag.  I'm sure everyone else knows this trick already, but I thought it was great!  I've got bags bunched under every bathroom cabinet and under the kitchen sink, and this is a real space-saver.

First, straighten the sides of the bag by pulling the handle and the bottom pleat in opposite directions.  Then, fold over (about 2 1/2 in. fold) along one side.  Then, wrap around two fingers until you have it all rolled up except for the handles.  Then, tuck the handles in the roll.

I wish I were clever enough to come up with these tricks on my own!  Share your thrifty tricks in comments, if you like.

• May. 20, 2006 - Not alone

Don't feel like you are alone in not knowing that. I had no clue either! Sounds great and I may implement if it doesn't take too long. Part of what we do is to put four or five plastic bags in the bottom of a small trashcan, then use one as the trashcan liner. That way when we empty trash, the new liner is available. We also use those bags for pooper scooping directly into the bag, tie it and place in the outside trash for pickup. We used to compost it, but currently have the garden occupied so no place to put the poop! We'll bury it in the garden again beginning in the fall. Thanks for sharing the tip!
