A. Homes.
The home is the child's primary place of learning. Check out this article in the latest issue of our local paper. This kind of thing is taking place even in rural, farming communities.
This is not to demean the fine people who teach in and administer our local schools. The majority of them are Christians, and I know the BOE chair, a person of integrity. These are rare incidents, although even our local schools are plagued by the usual problems of drugs, teenage pregnancy, etc.
The story only confirms my opinion that parents should be viewed as primarily responsible for their own children's education...and collectively, for the condition of our schools. Very little can be done by teachers and administrators if parents don't teach their sons it's wrong to beat up anybody, much less a girl. Obviously, schools are responsible for keeping children safe, and if teachers and administrators did not act fast enough, as these parents are claiming, that needs to be addressed. But schools are responsible for children only insofar as parents delegate that responsibility. Ultimately it is parents who should hold schools accountable--not to mention their own children! Parents really need to step up to the plate, here.
In other news, Operation Crisis Clean is underway. All clean laundry has been folded and put away. Dirty laundry is being put through its paces. Next task: sticky kitchen floor.
