Susie-Q&A

• Dec. 31, 2007 - Do-Overs

I re-decorated our dead Christmas tree last night.

Yes, I am aware that it was a crazy, pointless, post-partum thing to do.  I just wanted to see what it would look like with Mandi's birdies on it.

I had Fuzzy tied up in the wrap sound asleep, and was waiting for hubby's second birthday cake to finish baking, so I randomly started removing what ornaments hadn't already slid off the branches or been pulled off by Pudge.

(Yes, hubby's birthday was a week ago, but he never got to have seconds of his favorite cake in the whole world:  strawberry with cream cheese frosting.  Pudge scraped all the frosting off the remaining cake before hubby could get back to it.  I promised I'd bake another, and even bought the same brand of cake mix to reproduce the birthday cake as closely as possible.)

So, there I was removing ornaments and it occurred to me that I could put my new bird ornaments on instead, for just a little while before we tossed the tree.  However, they wouldn't look very nice with colored lights, and--hey, I'd just bought white lights half-price at Wal-Mart that evening!  They were outside in the back of the van.

Before I knew it, I had unwrapped all the garish lights, replaced them with a more tasteful white, clipped Mandi's birdies on the branches, and was digging around in my more uniform decorations to try to find a "theme."

The poor tree, God rest its soul, shed about half its remaining needles in the process.  I still haven't cleaned that up.

In other, wonderful, housekeeping news, hubby cleaned his side of the room today!!!!   Not only that, but he decluttered some games.  Our house has lost a few ounces of clutter!  I'd love a more aggressive weight-loss plan, but I'll take what I can get.

Also, it was a sunny day!  And Fuzzy had a nice, calm spell for a good while after his last feeding.  The rest of the time, he's been tied up in the wrap.  He prefers to sleep on me.

I was trying an elimination diet to see what might be causing his fuss, but I gave it up pretty quickly because I was just dying to use my new bread machine.  I've tried it once before.  The loaf rose too high and deflated itself in the middle (although it tasted good nevertheless).  But this time, I'm trying a smaller loaf and I think it will work better.  In fact, I think I heard the timer beep just now.  We'll have fresh-baked bread with our turkey-barley chili tonight.

At any rate, I don't believe Fuzzy's fuss is due to any food sensitivity.  I get the sense, as I've said before, that he doesn't like to just sit.  He either wants to be nursing or asleep.  And a kid with a tummy the size of his can only nurse for so long before he's overflowing.   He's fussing a bit right now, but he did just fill his diaper, so I'd best go take care of that for him.  TMI, but you're reading the blog of a mommy to a newborn, so what'd you expect?

I'll update with a pic of the tree when I get a chance.  And also, all the pine needles.  Later!

UPDATE:

A close-up of one of Mandi's birdies:

Mandi read about my wish to have a bird-themed tree and sent me this lovely set of hummingbirds!  Aren't they pretty and sparkly?   The light isn't right, or you'd be able to see the other ornaments as well.

A veritable sea of pine needles.  I hope my vacuum cleaner holds out.

X-Box playin' kid in the background.  We haven't done nothing but X-Box, but they've definitely played too much.  I did get them out to the park on Saturday for some fresh air, as it was in the fifties.  And today, they made a few things with their polymer clay, a gift from their Chriona.

More pics in next entry...

Your new birds are so sweet. I can't believe you undid and redid your tree!! Getting the lights on and off drives me crazy. Good for you.
