Chapter One of "Spinners"!

Okay, here is chapter 1:

1: Rhoda

I garuntee you, the world I live in is different from yours. So many things are banned by our elders and parents. And so many things required! Some times I wonder if the elders even know what there doing sometimes. I mean no disrespect! I mean, I am just a youngling who must watch her toung.

My name is Rhoda Chimra. I am thirteen years old, with brown hair, grayish-blue eyes, and abnormally large elf ears. Everyone says they are normal. But I don't think they are. Oh, well, back to the point. This is my story of the club I started with some of my friends. We called our selves Spinners. Spinners like spiders. Only, we spun words.

The day was hot and I was studying my books of rules while helping my mother in the kitchen. I pounded bread dough with my fists and looked at each rule memorizing it as I was told to do. Mother stood the fireplace stiring the pot of this evenings stew. Carrots, beans, turnips and beef was tonights stew flavorings. Not my favorite, nor my father's.

I read the rules, first in my head, out loud to my mother, then several times over in my head just to get it down. I had just read rule thirty. "Not a soul in Dimire (our city) is to use quill, nor paper. The only paper permitted is that which is used in the books of rules, so that the younglings of this city may learn them by heart."

"Mother?" I asked with a look of confusion.

"Yes Rhoda?" She sighed.

"Why are paper and quill forbidden?"

My mother let out a long, annoyed sigh of disgust. "Rhoda," She said, "Why must you have a question for every other rule? They are forbidden because that is what the elders say! I do hope you do not ask the questions in the presence of your teachers or fellow pupils!"

She says that all the time. But I am truly curious! What is so evil about words put to paper using a quill! But I dare not press her with this subject for fear of having another chore added to this evening's list.

It was a little after this, while I was drawing water from the well with my sister, Relia, that I met a girl my age named Bruna. I said hello and she waved smiling. I walked over to her while my sister spoke to her fiance.

"My name is Rhoda Chrima." I said. Then I covered my mouth, rule number twenty six forbid the mention of ones last name when making introductions. Don't ask me or my mother why.

"I won't tell anyone." She smiled. I could tell we would get along well.

"What is your name?" I asked.

"Bruna--Isoma." She whispered with a grin.

"Bruna!" Her mother cried.

"I need to go, Rhoda! See you tomorrow?"

"Of course!"

So Bruna left and soon My sister and I left.

That night I lay in my bed puzzling over why pen and paper were forbidden. Maybe her brother would give her a better reason when he returned from his hunting trip in a week.

Arrows (3) Leave an Arrow Keep Forever

What is my plan?

Spinners! I know that sounds totally random! I am serious though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spiders spin webs. Quilters spin thread. And Authors spin words! So I was thinking on writing a fantasy about kid woodelves, who are forbidden to write, that form a secret club and write stories in secret. One in particular named...(I haven't thought of a name yet)...who is like the story teller. These kids call them selves spinners and we follow what they write, whether it be Poems, short stories, novels, or historic accounts! This could be a good story! What do you think?
