S&T Friday: Our Little "Pet"

Here is a picture of Kami, our chameleon. Actually, it's an anole, but Kami the Cameleon sounded better, so the kids always thought it was a chameleon.

We bought Kami at the Puyallup Fair one year, from a street vendor. That creature lived about 5 years! My DH built a screened cage, and the kids captured flies for him to eat. The crazy thing was, Kristel would pick him up, turn him on his back, and start swinging him back and forth. Kami would then stay in that position--like he was frozen--and she could lay him in her Pretty Pony buggy (see pic). Very, very bizarre.

Poor Kami didn't do well in winter. No flies! So....in the summer the kids caught lots of flies and put them in the freezer. Then, in January, when Kami was hungry, I took out a fly, tied it to the end of a long strand of my hair, and opened the lid. Then I'd make a low "buzzzzzz" sound, swing the hair around, and SNAP! Kami grabbed the fly and swallowed. Amazing!

More Show and Tell Fridays are with Canadagirl. Some day I'll figure out how to put her very cool S&T logo on my site!

I'm trying to imagine how that (the winter feeding) would go over with Mom. Yeah... not at all, considering her reaction when I announced I wanted to get a pet snake a few years ago.

Man, I envy your kids.

Oh how fun! I used to dress up my cats in baby clothes, when I was a girl. I don't do that now. No time!

To cute & the carriage, your daughter is so sweet doing that.
I have to say the hair is very creative, never would have thought of that.

I had to laugh at what Jenn said. Cause my baby sister's would dress up the dog w/hat and walk him around. Oh yes, let's not forget the dancing with him too.

Great Show & Tell.... Have a great weekend,
Debbie

I really did laugh out loud as I read that. I was picturing you buzzing like a fly over a little cage to get your critter to eat. Hilarious!

We had a snake we kept in an aquarium through the winter. It did great at first and ate worms. Then we ran out of local worms from our garden as the snow came on. When our collection disappeared Skeeter would not eat. We tried everything from nightcrawlers to bugs...nothing doing. Tim even tried to force-feed the critter. Nope. Finally spring came in the valley and we took Skeeter down and let him go in hopes that he would either find food or pass on somewhere that the girls wouldn't see!

Now, I must go and see what I was tagged for!

That is soo cool! I wish that I would have known that for a lizard that I used to have!
We (me and my friend) called her Lizz and she lived in a cooler. We opened the lid during the day so that she could eat. And do you know what? She had babies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But then we had to let them go!
Thanks for the message!
Hugs!
