Our Thunder Storm

Wordless Wednesday is brought to you by Tiany. Click her name to visit other WWs.

My daughter-in-law caught these magnificent photos of our recent (and very rare) thunder storm on Sunday. People sat outside (under eaves, of course!) and watched this mighty display. Usually it just rains in Western Washington.

That is beautiful! Okay, I understand the rarity factor. But AUGH! You can't do that! There's a reason people in the Midwest stay inside during thunderstorms. DANGER, Will Robinson! Here is the Lightning 30-30 rule from my local TV station, WCMH:

"When you see lightning, you should count the seconds between the lightning and the next thunder clap. If the time between the elements is 30 seconds or less, you should seek shelter immediately.

After you hear the last clap of thunder, wait 30 minutes before it is safe to return outside."

We don't even count the seconds. When we see a flash, any flash, we go inside, because we have a family story. My husband's maternal grandpa, when he was a teen, found two little girls who had been struck by lightning when they were out picking berries. Not a happy ending (shoes blown off, etc), so we all have a very healthy respect for lightning. Watch it from inside! I like you alive.

What great pictures! It's so hard to get good pictures of lightning. I love thunderstorms - we too head to our porch to watch a good one. After living in southern calif. for so long where you rarely get a thunderstorm, we really enjoy the light show.
