Josefina Montoya

Posted in what-not
I've loved the American Girls dolls since they came out in 1986, although at that time, being in my 20's didn't think I needed one.  Then I was blessed with 3 boys and still did NOT need an American Girl doll. I do receive their catalogs regularly and have received two of the 'mini' dolls for various birthdays, Josefina (my favorite) and Kaya. I have read all six books for each of the 8 different historical dolls that American Girl makes.

Although now that I'm passed middle age and heading down the other side, I still would love to have an American Girl to add to my small, but growing doll collection. I have a couple dolls from my childhood that I keep out on top of the bookcases. I have a few others that are from my childhood era that I have found at Goodwills and yard sales.

On eBay last week, my dh found a used, well loved Josefina that he thought I would love and care for. He bought her. She arrived today. He gave her to me as soon as he came home for lunch today. She's beautiful. I cried. She needed quite a make-over and I've included a before and after picture here for you to see how she has transformed after I spent 3 hours trying to untangle her hair.

Her new skirt I made from a placemat that I had brought back from Mexico when we lived there. My mother had it and gave it back to me last visit with her. Her rebozo and belt I made from a scrap of Mexican cloth that I had from that same summer in Mexico. Her underthings (slip and pantiloons) I had already made for another similar sized doll I already had. Her blouse I already had too. I believe she turned out pretty good.

Much love to my dh for indulging my middle-aged whims.

Oh, Betsy. You've got me close to tears. How sweet and romantic that was of your husband. I know how much you wanted one, but felt it wasn't practical. See, the thing is...we mom's of little girls are living vicariously through them. I love the dolls as much as they do, and I know many moms who are the same way. We just have an excuse. I think it's great!!! And, I think it's extra great that your dh got you one as a surprise.
By the way, I have a ton of the larger precious moments dolls. I'm trying to get up the nerve to sell a few of them. I also have a porcelin doll that James gave me right after we were married that sits on the dresser in our bedroom.

Betsy,

she is beautiful! You have done a wonderful job! We are loving Maggie. And she has already made wonderful changes in our household. My kids get up when she do. They are outside more taking her on walks and such and the house is always picked up because Maggie thinks their toys taste wonderful! She is also doing much better with the housetraining! We are so proud of her! Melissa

What a beautiful doll she is! I've been trying to find some of those for my daughters. Maybe I'll finally commit at Christmas :) We would love to leave Florida, it isn't the type of community feeling we want for our family. We want to live somewhere that isn't a vacation capital, just a place where people live and work! My family is all from Indiana, (about an hour away from where we'll be), and they've recently all moved back there as well, so that is a part in it as well. We have been praying for the Lord to lead us somewhere away from here, and we really feel this is the place for this point in our lives. So, off we go!

My Purpose

“My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Col. 2:2,3)
