Just helping Mommy!

10:53 PM, Friday, October 3, 2008 .. Posted in Knitting .. 1 comments .. Link
I was sorting out my craft supplies this evening, when my husband called me downstairs for some information.  When I came back upstairs my "baby"  (I've GOT to stop calling him that!) looked up at me innocently from the floor....  "  'elp Mommy!" he said.  Sure enough, he was "helping" - sort of.

A new Grade

11:20 PM, Thursday, October 2, 2008 .. Posted in Homeschooling .. 0 comments .. Link
I spent all day and evening yesterday preparing - tearing pages out of books, figuring out our scheadule, planning, preparing and prepping...

SO......

Today we officially began Grade three!   We started spelling earlier this week, and Story of the World, but today we added arithmetic, language, penmanship, science and poetry.   According to my son it was "easy peasy" today!  We are really stressing on NEATNESS for the first few months, since much of what he's going to be doing is review from last year.

Field Trips to start off the new School Year.

11:43 PM, Monday, September 29, 2008 .. Posted in Homeschooling .. 0 comments .. Link
We spoke at a church in Ottawa yesterday, and decided to stay an extra night.  Today we took the children to the Parliament buildings.  After studying them, my son was quite interested in visiting!  Quite a good field trip!

Afterwards we visited the agricultural museum and the children learned about bees, milking cows, tractors, cow care and washing, sheep, chickens and much more!  Another great field trip experience as we talk about farms this year in science!

Do you dress like your parents?

8:35 PM, Wednesday, September 24, 2008 .. Posted in Just for FUN .. 1 comments .. Link
Do you ever wonder how your children perceive you?  Tonight was "Dress like your Parent Night" at Olympians.

My son was quick to point out that he had to wear his Maple Leaf jersey and jeans - because that's Daddy's favourite outfit!  It took us a little longer to figure out the glasses...  and of course, there was that beard and mustache to conquer!   He did a pretty good job looking like Daddy!

My daughter (always quick to dress up) was right on the bandwagon, too.  She put on her skirt and shirt that matches mine, got herself a purse and glasses, had her toes painted purple, and even wanted make up (Blush, please, Mommy!)  Her hair went up into a bun (complete with scrunchy and knitting needles!)   What a girl!

In other news.....

It is day #6 re-introducing the baby to dairy and milk - and so far, NO REACTION!  I'm just shocked!  We decided to give him yogurt for the first time, and he has been stalking the fridge since - if anyone opens it he throws himself in, desperatly looking for more!

Sprain, Strain, what a Pain!

3:16 PM, Monday, September 22, 2008 .. Posted in Family News .. 0 comments .. Link
I spent most of the morning today in the "Urgent Care Clinic" holding my wrist, unable to move my hand or fingers without severe pain.  The doctors diagnosis was that I have severely sprained my left wrist - and strained my right shoulder!  yikes!  The wrist will take 4-6 months to heal, apparently....  that seems like a long time!   Guess that baby's gonna have to learn how to climb into his own crib this week!

Happy Birthday, Honey!

It's my hubby's birthday today!
What a blessing he is.  We celebrated last week with a special LAMB dinner because today he is working all afternoon and evening.

I love him so much!

A Step Back in Time

8:14 PM, Saturday, September 20, 2008 .. Posted in Homeschooling .. 1 comments .. Link
We visited a pioneer village today.  With their ever-growing interest in all things "Little House" we thought that the children would really enjoy it!

It was very educational!  We saw a one room school house, complete with a teacher, an old church, old homes, a quilt auction, candle making, tried some pioneer foods, and much more!

We saw the wool process --
From the sheep in the field, to the fleecing, cleaning, carding, roving, spinning, dying and even weaving and knitting!

The baby, who has taken a keen interest in cows, got to meet his first cow up close - he was not impressed!

It was a fantastic day!  So glad we went!

Grade Two is HISTORY! (and other news)

4:27 PM, Friday, September 19, 2008 .. Posted in Homeschooling .. 0 comments .. Link
Today is officially the last day of Grade two!  My son finished his last lessons today, and couldn't be more thrilled!  He is looking forward to Grade three, but even more then that, he's looking forward to a week off and lots of biking time this coming week.

In other news....

The baby has been on SOY milk (and other products) because of an unconfirmed (no allergy tests) diagnosis of a milk/dairy allergy.  We were told that it is likely that he will outgrow this allergy by the time he is two, and that we should "test" him every 3-4 months to see if he is still reacting.  The last time we tested, within just a couple of hours following the milk intake he came down with a full body rash, vomiting, and high fever.  The time has come and this weekend we are going to try it again...   hopefully it will go better this time!

Fiberworks ' 08

4:42 PM, Thursday, September 18, 2008 .. Posted in Homeschooling .. 0 comments .. Link
The children enjoy wandering through our local gallery, so we stop by often to see what's new.  Today we discovered that it is FIBERWORKS '08 - a multitude of different works of art all done in fibers - from fleece, to animal hairs, crocheting, knitting, tating, weaving and so much more!

Just a FEW pictures...   could have taken many more!

Learning the System (Franklin is Messy)

3:33 PM, Thursday, September 18, 2008 .. Posted in Homeschooling .. 0 comments .. Link
Today, following "Come Sit by Me", my daughters schoolwork, we visited the library to learn about the organizational system of the books and learn how to find the books desired, both fiction and non-fiction.

We had a great time meeting the librarians and having a tour through the library.  To our delight, the focus of the children's section this month is FIBER and SHEEP!

I'm feeling BLUE

Yes, indeed, you're seeing that right!  Blue hair on all three children, thanks to CRAZY HAIR NIGHT at Olympians tonight!  Even the baby wanted his done when he saw his siblings hair!  He sure is getting good at expressing what he wants!

Spindling

9:20 PM, Tuesday, September 16, 2008 .. Posted in Knitting .. 0 comments .. Link
After attending the yarn fair and seeing drop spindling done the children wanted to try it (and so did I!)

Using this website we made our own drop spindles and tried our hand at spinning - we actually did plying, since we didn't have any roving at hand (something to remedy in the future).  It was fun - a bit tangly, but a great experiment!  We were only able to find small wheels, which worked suitably, but I think having a slightly larger, heavier wheel would work better, so a friend of ours has agreed to make larger ones for us (he's a woodworker).  With larger wheels and a bag of roving we'll try this again in a few weeks.

"Franklin is Messy" (Come Sit By Me)

3:40 PM, Tuesday, September 16, 2008 .. Posted in Homeschooling .. 0 comments .. Link
Today, prompted by our book "Come Sit by Me", we discussed Knights, Ladies and Titles (Names).   To complete the activity my daughter made her own shield and sword!  True to herself, she wanted PINK for both (and glitter makes the sword sparkle!)  She also insisted on making TWO sets - so that when she has a friend over they can play with her!

A "Flying Trip" to New Brunswick

Fabulous Fibers

10:38 PM, Saturday, September 13, 2008 .. Posted in Knitting .. 0 comments .. Link

I spent the day today using indulging my sense at the KW Knitter's Fair.   It was such fun!  I wandered aimlessly through 76 displays of delicious yarns and fibers - touching everything!  I dragged my three littles out with me, and they did so delightfully well, I am so proud of them!  It took us about an hour and a half to get there, but it was worth the trek.  Whoever thought of putting a children's area in was an absolute angel - my children were happy to have a break from the shopping!

We took in a knitters fashion show and a session on colour - very informative!  I've never been to a knitting workshop before.  I didn't break my budget, but I did come home with some treats of my own - bamboo that I have been eyeing for some time, bamboo sock yarn, some deciously soft sock yarn, noro, and a few other things...  to my sons amusment, most of it is blue!  (not the bamboo) if I had my camera I'd take some pictures, but hubby has borrowed it for the weekend - he's in New Bruswick!

To make it educational...  The children and I had our first spinning lessons - we watched two spinning wheels in action and even got to try one out!  What a great field trip!  We were also introduced to spindling....  and I'm definatly interested!  Even my son would like to try spindling - that's a good homeschool lesson, isn't it?

Feeling "Blue" today

Today was BLUEBERRY Day!

As we finished up the book "Hurry Up, Franklin" in the "Come Sit by Me" book, we spent today discussing blueberries - how they grow, season they are ripe, what they need to grow, what animals like to eat them, how to pick them, and what can we make with them?

To complete the section we made a few blueberry treats - apple dumplings filled with blueberries and blueberry cookies.  They are both delicious!

True Patience

11:56 AM, Thursday, September 11, 2008 .. Posted in Food For Thought .. 0 comments .. Link
I sit quietly at the table in the banquet hall waiting for my table to be called.  I smile and make conversation, waiting for my turn patiently - or am I?   On the outside, I'm not fidgiting, scowling, or grumping as I realize that we are the last to go up, but on the inside all I can think about is my growing stomach - and I hope there is some of what I want left!

My son is doing his school work.  I am waiting to help him through his math lesson.  He grabs a pencil then can't find his paper...  he searches while I wait.  He's ready again - oh no, his pencil has broken... off he goes to sharpen it, while I wait.  Now he has to use the bathroom...  again, I wait.   He has spilled water on this shirt while washing his hands so off he goes to change his shirt... and I wait.  He finally comes down, ready to work on math, but makes a mistake in his first problem...  off he goes to find an eraser while I wait...   I smile and ask him if he's ready to begin again - inside I am frustrated that it's taken so long just to get STARTED.  My words are right - my actions show patience...  but my heart??  Definatly could use some work.

The baby is dirty, and company is coming.  It's the 7th outfit of the day, due to blow outs on the bottom and spills on the top.  I know he's just a baby - but still, my ends are a little frayed as I change him yet again, and put in another load of wash...   My hands are gentle.  I smile at him and laugh at his chatter - but inside I am racing around considering all the things I am NOT doing to get ready for the company when I have to stop to change his clothes - again.

We know that Patience is one of the fruits of the spirit (Galations 5).  We are encouraged, as Christians, to show patience in Colossians 3:12, 2 Corinthians 6:6, and other places.  It is a learned skill.  I can LEARN to SHOW patience - without being patient in my heart.  Ecclesiastes 7:8 says that Patience is better then pride.

How is your heart?  This is something I struggle with almost daily. I am very task oriented, so things that throw me "off task" can quickly bring out impatience.  I pray daily for God to grant me TRUE patience - not only in my words and actions, but also in my mind and heart.

Feeling like a Princess

10:43 PM, Wednesday, September 10, 2008 .. Posted in Just for FUN .. 0 comments .. Link
When I was a little girl my mother smocked a dress for me, and a matching one for my doll.  It was my all time very favourite dress, and I just felt beautiful when I wore it.  It was a sad day when I grew out of it and hand to lay it aside.

About 4 months ago my mother brought my daughter the dress in the set that she'd made for my doll.  My daughter was delighted and the dress is on the doll every time she needs to dress up.  Today, however, while my daughter visited my Mom and Dad (on her own, as her older brother was sick), my Mom brought out the dress she'd made for me - matching the doll.

A few pictures reveal that it is still WAY to big for her, but when I asked her later how she felt wearing it she said "I felt like a beautiful princess".  There's just something about that dress....

Fair Fun

It was off to the Western Fair today for a few hours.

We spent most of our time in the Children's area learning and exploring there - and even watched parade, and a Forensics show that showed us how the police collect evidence and finger prints and such - very informative!  There was an agricultural building just outside the fair grounds that I wanted to take the children into, but we just didn't have time to do it all.  They did manage to convince Daddy to let them go on the ferris wheel before we left - a first for me as well as for the children!

School Begins - PreK

4:06 PM, Tuesday, September 2, 2008 .. Posted in Homeschooling .. 0 comments .. Link
School has begun today for my daughter.  She is just thrilled!  Already her little brother wants to be involved, too - should be fun!  I really think this "hands on" approach will be a better way for her, as we delve into various subjects and explore different things.

My son has just two weeks left of Grade 2 to complete, then he'll begin grade 3.  He is doing so very well, I couldn't be more proud of him!  He is still reading everything he can get his hands on, devouring words like candy!

Do I make an impact?

12:38 PM, Monday, September 1, 2008 .. Posted in Food For Thought .. 0 comments .. Link
Imagine - you have just turned 90 years old and you are the guest of honour at a large birthday party.  You are asked "Who has made the greatest impact on your life?"   (we're not referring to Godhead here, but a human being)

Who would it be?  A teacher?  A parent?  A spouse?  A child?  A friend?  An author?  A pastoral figure?  Someone else?

Chances are, the person (or people) who impacted you the most as a person are not people who DID something spectacular, (like invent the modern car) but someone who build a relationship or taught you somehow.

Now, let's flip it around.  You are sitting in the seat of honour at your 90th birthday and the guests are asked to speak about you.  Are they going to talk of the wonderful things you've DONE, or are they going to tell about how you've changed their lives?

Sometimes I get so task oriented that I forget to make those personal connections - even with my children!  I pray that the Lord prods me to make a positive difference in LIVES - to connect people with HIM and show Him in my life.

To Market, To Market, To buy a fat pig... Home again, Home again, jiggity jig!

6:07 PM, Saturday, August 30, 2008 .. Posted in Family News .. 1 comments .. Link
Ok, so we didn't by a pig as the nursery rhyme suggests, but we DID go to the Market today!

We headed up to the St. Jacobs Market.  To our delight we found Grandma and Grandpa there (my parents)!

We saw buskers, tried samples of breads, dips, fudge, fruits, and more, looked at crafts, ate delicious fresh cut french fries for lunch.

We even stopped in at  lego land in the outlet mall (and, of course, for ice cream afterwards).

It was a fun day and we came home with lots of fresh veggies and fruits.  (And a great home school field trip learning about the Amish that we saw selling everything)

I'm praying for you

1:22 PM, Thursday, August 28, 2008 .. Posted in Food For Thought .. 0 comments .. Link
"Praying for you" has almost become a salutation in Christian circles.  It has become the way we sign off letters and emails, and the words we use to encourage and comfort each other - but do we really?

James 5:13-16 reminds us "Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective"

We are urged to pray!  We are told to ask others to pray for us!  We are to bring each other before the throne of God regularly and fervently.

Don't just SAY the words - DO them!

-  STOP right away and Pray - either by yourself, or with the person you are praying for.
-  WRITE IT DOWN and place the request (or just the persons name to protect privacy) in a place you will see it - while you do dishes, while you fold laundry, etc.
-  Remember, YOUR prayers CAN make a difference.  James says "The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective."

We have a gentleman who prays for us, as a family, twice a day.  He has put our prayer card beside his bed and every morning before he gets out of bed he remembers us in prayer, and every night when he turns off the lights he remembers us again - a wonderful prayer partner!

We have a family that has made prayer place mats - they put their missionary prayer cards, along with a small map to show the country and a little information and mactac them to keep them in good condition.  Every evening at dinner they go around the table and they each pray for the missionary on the place mat before them.

There are so many ways and ideas - use your creativity.  Find a way that works for you that jogs your memory for those you need to be a blessing to by bringing them to the Lord.

Just DO It.

Getting Ready

4:12 PM, Wednesday, August 27, 2008 .. Posted in Homeschooling .. 0 comments .. Link
School is almost upon us for another year!

My daughter (4) will be starting pre-K this year, and my son (7) will be finishing up his grade two work and heading into grade three.

We were going to do Abeka for my daughter as we did with my son at this age, but she is such a different child!  We've decided, instead, to do "Come Sit by Me" (The Canadian version of "5 in a Row").  Each week it features a different Canadian book, then lessons are done each day based on the book.  We did it with my son and all the day care kids - and it was such a hit!  I'm sure she'll enjoy this.  We will also do writing, numbers and beginner reading (phonics).  Phonics will be Abeka, but numbers and writing are simply practice books that I've picked up elsewhere.  She will sit in on "Story of the World" this year, even though she won't understand everything - it's the beginning of learning about the world, anway!  She will also be doing poetry and sign language.  She will also do Bible time with my son.

For my son, we will be doing Abeka math, phonics/language, reading, spelling, poetry,  science and Health.  We will be doing "Story of the World" for History, sign language, and journaling.  He is also joining Olympians this year, so we will use the Word of Life grade three book for Devotions, and we have a book from Child Evangelism Fellowship called "The WonderBook" that we are using for Bible time.  When that is finished we have a book from Answers in Genesis that we will be going through.

We have been reading the "Little House on the Prairie" series, and "The Box Car Children".  The children just love to listen to stories!    I am looking for some other ideas for age appropriate books, so feel free to share with me!

I'm really excited about this school year - especially excited about starting Story of the World, as I think it's going to be a lot of fun!  We have some field trips already planned, and hopefully we'll be able to do fall soccer with the homeschooling group again.

Extreme Makeover - LIFE edition!

1:11 PM, Tuesday, August 26, 2008 .. Posted in Food For Thought .. 0 comments .. Link
There are a few "Extreme Makeover" shows on television - one that my son enjoys, particularly, is "Extreme Makeover, Home Edition".  A family in need moves out of their (usually) run down, inappropriate home for one week of vacation.  A team (led by carpenter Ty Pennington)  then comes in a makes over the entire home in just a week - it usually doesn't even resemble it's original form when they are done!  It is clean, new, beautiful, unique, and tailor made for the family that will be living in it.

Do you know anyone who needs an Extreme Makeover in their life?  God can do it!  Salvation can be an Extreme Makeover in your life - take out the dirty, the clutter, the garbage.  The sin growing like mold in the the dark corners.  Even as Christians, many of us could use an Extreme Makeover.  Give your entire life to Him and He can clean it up, make it new, beautiful and unique, tailor made just for you!

Does it come without pain?  No, not always.  It isn't easy for the homeowners to relinquish total control of their home and possessions and sentimental memories to the team of workers - and it isn't always easy to give God total control of your life, but the rewards for them are overwhelmingly worth the pain - and it is for us, too - blessings beyond your imagination!

Chocolate Factory + Dairy = Chocolate Milk??

10:53 PM, Sunday, August 24, 2008 .. Posted in Family News .. 0 comments .. Link
It's been a busy day!

This morning we visited the Chocolate Factory in Smith Falls to see how chocolate is made and processed.  We had a lot of learning fun, and even sampled some of the production -- just to make sure it passed inspection.

This afternoon we stopped at Reids Dairy to see how milk is processed and packaged, and how ice cream is made.  That was very interesting!  We did, of course, have to sample the ice cream, too.

My daughter was pretty impressed that Reid's Dairy was a CASTLE that makes ICE CREAM!

In a Cabin in a Woods...

10:43 PM, Saturday, August 23, 2008 .. Posted in Family News .. 0 comments .. Link
There are advantages and disadvantages to pre-field, but here is one of the advantages.  We drove to Smith Falls via Thunder Bay (think 6 hours to Thunder Bay area on Friday, 6 hours from there to Smith Falls on Saturday).  The children were glad to get out of the car and run for a bit when we arrived.

Sunday morning we enjoyed the fellowship of a church in the area, and Sunday afternoon/evening we were invited to speak at the church's outdoor service.  The children were delighted to be handed nets when we arrived and told to go catch fish!  They were pretty quick little things, but we did manage to net a couple!
After the service we were invited to have a quick tour of the area - by boat.  We watched the sun come down over the water - so beautiful!  The children were delighted to have their first experience on a motorboat -- and asked if we can go down again next weekend!

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh my!

We had a great field trip today - the the Metro Toronto Zoo!  The weather was perfect - not too hot, not too cold.

The highlight of the day - we got to PET Sting Rays!  Yup, that's right, we put our hands right into the water to touch their soft (kind of slimy) bodies.  Definately a good home school teaching time!  I think my eldest (7) would have stayed there all day if I'd let him - he loved it!  The baby (20 months) was a little nervous at first - it took some encouraging, but eventually he got down and petted them, too.  It's a chance of a life time!

To LOVE is to SERVE

12:58 PM, Tuesday, August 12, 2008 .. Posted in Food For Thought .. 0 comments .. Link
What is your motivation for Service?

Revelation 2:1-7 - God is speaking to the church in Ephesus through Paul.
He commends them for a number of things
 -- Their hard work!
 -- Their perseverance
-- Their solid stand on the doctrine of Christ

Wow, they sound like a pretty fantastic church, eh?

God must be so pleased with them...  but wait...

A warning comes...  verse 4 says they do all these things that are right, but they have lost their first love.  They have forgotten WHY they are  doing these things!   They are no longer motivated to service (action) by their LOVE for Christ.  The Bible doesn't delve into what their motivation has changed to -- is it tradition?  is it habit?  is it self-fullfilling?  is it to please man?   The details aren't listed, simply the imploring to turn back - "REPENT"  it says.  Turn back to your first love - actions motivated by a love for Christ.

I think back on the things I do - I care for my children, do devotions, go to church, teach children's classes, even the way I dress for church and the way I act....  what  motivates me?  Do I do it because that's what's expected?  Do I do it for some self-fulfilling resons?  Do I do it out of habit?

The Bible is clear...  our actions are to be motivated by LOVE for CHRIST.  I should be doing my devotions because I LOVE Jesus and want a better relationship with him - not because I feel obligated to.  I teach my children (and other children) about Jesus because of my LOVE for Him - not because there's no one else to do it!  I dress modestly and appropriatly because I LOVE Christ - not because of what someone else will think of me....  I go to church because I love to fellowship and worship with others who also love Christ - not because it's expected of me.

What is your motivator?  Do you need to get back to your FIRST LOVE?  Consider the church in Ephesus - doing all the right things, but still missing the mark because their hearts were not in the right place.

Hard work is NOTHING if not done to Glorify Christ alone.

The end of the season

Well, soccer is over for the season.  Today was the final tournament for the boys, and the awards ceremony.  It has been great to watch how much the boys have improved in their skills over the summer!  Their coach was fantastic, really encouraging the boys to have fun and to been good sportsmen - as well as sneaking in some skill learning too!  My son couldn't be more proud of his little trophy!  This season has only fuelled his interest in the game!  (in the picture, he's the one on the right with the red shirt peeking out from underneath his jersey)

Stitch and Pitch Toronto Style!

11:55 PM, Wednesday, August 6, 2008 .. Posted in Knitting .. 0 comments .. Link
My husband and  have never celebrated our anniversary by going away by ourselves.  After hardly acknowledging our 10th anniversary last year I told my husband that I EXPECT something to happen this year.  He came up with a perfect plan - something that we would both enjoy completely - Stitch and Pitch Toronto

We started out with a lovely dinner - JUST THE TWO OF US.  (no running to the bathroom, picking crayons up off the floor, cutting up food, can you imagine??)  Within moments of us arriving at the restaurant the rain began to poor down - stopping just as we were finishing our dinner -- how considerate!

We walked over to the Rogers Centre and checked in for Stitch and Pitch - we were given cloth bags containing yarn, patterns coupons and wool-wash.  (my hubby let me have his yarn, how nice!)  We had great fun getting to know the other yarnies and husbands in our section - watching ACE (the Toronto Blue Jays Mascot) receive a knitted touque from Amy of The Purple Purl, and cheering on our team!  The Jays were considerate enough to make it an exciting game - pulling up from being behind all game to win it in the 9th inning!  What a great way to spend a rainy day!

Met lots of other ravelers, got free fibers, spent the day with my handsome hubby, laughed, ate, and just enjoyed a wonderful relaxing day.

Trials and troubles go away... come again another day!

12:48 PM, Monday, August 4, 2008 .. Posted in Food For Thought .. 0 comments .. Link
The trials and troubles in my life have been so minor compared to the experiences of others.

Why does God allow trials in our lives?  Wouldn't life just be so much nicer if God allowed the lives of Christians to be perfect and struggle-free?

Perhaps it would - but if we never had to rely on God for overcoming, how would we come to a better understanding of just how BIG He is?

God allows us to experience trials so that we can also experience His comfort and use that experience to comfort others.  Do you use your experiences to reach out to those around you and comfort them and introduce them to the Perfect Comfortor - Jesus Christ?

James 1:2-4 also tells us that we are to "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

God is still doing a work in our lives - He molds us, shapes us and changes us to be more like Him - if we allow Him to!  Praise Him for the trials and troubles that come into our lives, for through them we can become more Christ-like and be a comfort to others - bringing them closer to Christ, also.

Ways my Husband shows me that he loves me

Why do I love my husband?

He is thoughtful.  He is caring.  He makes me laugh when I'm having a rough day.  He is supportive of me.  He is spontaneous - I never know what he's going to do or say.  He stops at scrapbooking stores for me (alone) looking for creamy vellum, He encourages me.  He is gentle.  He loves God with all his heart and soul.  He is a wonderful Father.  He is creative.  He is determined.  He has goals and vision.  He is full of energy.  He is loyal.  He is dependable.  He is handsome.  He is the one God chose for me.  He is good to my parents.  He stands up for me.  He loves to explore and try new things.  He challenges me to be better then I am.  I love him for all that he is, and all that he is not.

Thank you, Lord, for blessing me with such a man!

I Corinthians 13:4-8

4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

A 3-celebrations Day...

Today as we drive home we will be remembering THREE special events...

First...  My Auntie Pauline's birthday is today!

She is my mom's little sister, but you'll have to ask her if you want to know her age...  My auntie Pauline and I had a very special relationship growing up.  She always lived quite a ways away, but I knew when she came to visit (or when we visited her) that I'd be treated like a princess.  She did my hair up, painted my fingernails and always treated me in a special way.  When I was a teenager and interested in make up she is the one that taught me how to use it (with moderation) and what colours would compliment my skin tone.

When Auntie Pauline and her family were visiting, it was always fun.  On the telephone she and my mother are very difficult to distinguish between.  What wonderful memories I have of my Auntie Pauline!

Second....  It is Jeffrey and my 11th Anniversary.
Wow!  11 years!  I can hardly believe it has been 11 years.  I look back to the day we were married.  Sometimes it feels like just yesterday my Dad walked me down the asile towards my waiting groom...    Other times if feels like we've been married FOREVER...  (in a good way, of course!)  As I reflect on the past 10 years I am amazed at how much we've grown and changed as individuals and as a family.  I could never have predicted, 11 years ago, that we'd be as we are...  I think I expected the children to come, but to have worked as a pastor and wife in three churches, to have six pregnancies, to be on our way to the missionfield, to be homeschooling, on and on and on...  wow!  In 10 years God has done so much in our lives.  How much more does He have in store for us in the next 10 and more years?  I am excited to see how much He is going to work through us and change us to be to His Glory!

Third...  It is the 7th anniversary of my son's open heart surgery.
The beautiful (handsome), smart, funny, thoughtful boy I see before me is such a miracle.  Six years ago today I sat, along with my husband and both of our parents, in a little waiting room.  I took a book to read, but couldn't concentrate on it.  I took crocheting to do, but my fingers didn't seem to want to work the hook properly.  I took a notebook but my mind was blank to write.  All I could think of was the little tiny baby lying in the operating room fighting for his life.  God pulled him through in the most amazing way - more perfectly then we could have imagined!  Today as I pull him close and feel his heart beating strongly against me I praise my God once again for His gift - the gift of a son.

So, it's a big day today!   Celebrate with us as we remember God's goodness and mercy.

It's KNOT here anymore!

My poor daughter (4) has inherited a problem from me -- her hair is so fine that it KNOTS and TANGLES very badly.  I can empathize with her tears!  We've tried conditioner and spray in tangle spray, but it still seems to be be painful for her....  so I've CUT IT OFF!  I sat her down and took six inches off her hair!  It's still long enough to braid or put into pony tails, but I'm hoping it will help with the tangles to get some of that fine baby hair off the bottom.  I really love long hair but the tears and pain just isn't worth it.  Hopefully as it grows out again it will be thicker and easier to manage.

In the mean time, I think she looks pretty cute -- it actually makes her look older!  (well... except for the dirty face)
