Adventures With Stanley: Week 1

This whole Flat Stanley Project is not turning out at all like I expected. My kids are just being horribly resistant to enfolding Stanley into our family. This is a photo of our first meal with the new arrival.

Now isn't that just a picture of excitement and overwhelming happiness?

Today I wanted to take a photo of Stanley on the Zamboni machine after Sasquatch's hockey practice, but he (Sasquatch, not Stanley) adamantly opposed the idea and threatened to ride beside me in the front seat on the way home. If you know anything about hockey, you know that this is the equivalent to being sentenced to Painful Suffocating Death By Noxious Odor. Asphyxiation definitely would have put a crimp in my plans for the rest of the day, so I decided to forgo the Zamboni photo.

The Husband is not helping the situation. Apparently, he thinks that Stanley is the reincarnation of Mr. Bill. I have to admit, there is a physical resemblance.

But my word, the kinds of ideas he's coming up with for Stanley make me think it's time to take away his NRA card.

When all was said and done, the most exciting thing that happened to Stanley this week was that he learned to be my personal barista. I think he looks pretty happy about it.

You know, somehow I understand her look...if my mother made ME sit for pictures with a paper man, well...you might see something very close to that there expression. =)

Awe poor flat Stanley. At least he always looks enthused no matter what his circumstances. A good example for us to follow, no doubt! He does share an uncanny resemblance to Mr. Bill. It's funny b/c at our old church a lot of the kids there were taught to call their elders by Mr. & Miss....and they normally used our first names. I was Miss Lori and my poor husband was Mr. Bill. He hated it and asked the parents if the kids could just call him Uncle Bill. LOL.

I've seen that look many times in my children...aren't they being abused...poor babies. Tell her it could've been worse, you could've decided Flat Stanley needed to get married!

Have fun with this, I know others that have done it & it really is a neat project.

And the point of this is...?

Sorry for being blunt, but what's the point of carrying "Stanley" around everywhere? I'd think the little guy would get dizzy?

One loophole to watch out for if your really going to enforce this, is this:
If I were them (which I'm not, or I wouldn't be saying this as me), I would take Stanley and fold him, fold again, and again. Keep folding several more times, then when you have this tiny pice of compacted paper in your hand. Stick this someplace, (in your shoe, in some long forgotten coordinates of one's backpack, ect)

Now, should you ask if I took Stanley with me, I can say with confidence, "Yes mom. He's right here."
Parent's weird obsession satisfied, no social repercussions.

Too bad you don't still have your pool. Stanley could be your personal cabana boy! "Stan, fetch me my Egyptian cotton towels." "Stan, be a dear and freshen up my drink." You get the idea.

Flat Stanley on Caffeine.... this may need to be investigated. And knowing what happened to Mr Bill, his very existance may be in danger in the realm of the NRA happy man's castle.
