My family and I made it home safely from the Sufficiency of Scripture Conference.  The experience of attending the conference was an indescribable blessing for our entire family.  The speakers’ messages were powerful and solidly Biblical.  We had many opportunities to meet and fellowship with likeminded families.  The children benefited from listening to the teaching and meeting other children who are being raised in similar ways and with similar values.  Each message we heard, each family we talked with, each and every experience we had throughout the week was a gift of encouragement to us.

God was so good to us through the entire time away from home.  The trip out and back went smoothly (despite the length of the drive and the number of little ones which with we were traveling), the visit to the Creation Museum was life-impacting for our children, and the conference itself was a blessing beyond what we could have imagined.  Each message challenged us to look to Scripture as sufficient for every area of life.  There is nothing in life for which God has not given direction in His Word.  Each speaker reminded us that we can find the answers to every problem, every question, every situation in the Bible.

Scott Brown has done an excellent job highlighting many of the encouraging and convicting messages we were privileged to hear throughout the week.  Check out the National Center for Family Integrated Churches website for a taste of some of these wonderfully challenging messages.

Though it was wonderful to be at the conference, it is good to be back home and back into a routine.  Now the challenge is to live out what we learned over the week….

I was in a baking mood today because we had run out of flour but today went and got 50 lbs. of white flour, 50 lbs. of whole wheat, and 50 lbs. of rolled oats!  Yay!

I decided to make a sponge cake.   I had thawed some of the strawberries we had picked this summer and needed something to turn them into dessert!  SO... the sponge cake helped make them a delicious Strawberry Shortcake!  OOOOH it was SOOO good!

And can you tell that we drink Tropicana OJ?  I never did work, but he tried SO hard! hehe

I also made molasses cookies but was too lazy to photograph them.  I can't wait to make more cookies for Christmas and then get started on Christmas candy!

I'm giving the kids some time off for school for the holidays, so I am going to focus on lots of devotions and fun things to prepare for our celebration of the Lord's birth!

To be continued...

Blessings...

Friends of ours recently lost all of their material possessions in a house fire that consumed everything, except them and their pets.  It was devastating.  I was blown away by the complete destructive power of fire.  My heart has been so heavy for my dear friend.  Nothing I could do but pray, offer clothes, and gift cards.  Prayer, of course, has been most important.  But my heart still breaks for them and their loss.

It's been so hard to watch them grieve but so wonderful to watch people reach out and help them.  Some haven't even known them.  Some have been good friends.  But all have been "Jesus with feet" to my dear friend and her family.

Yesterday they got to pick up their children from their grandmother's house.  I am so humbled by God working to bring this family back together for Christmas.  It seems like all of life is okay just because they are now together.

I know there will be times when certain material possessions are missed, making them sad.  But I also know Jesus is there to rebuild what no man can.....a family.

Join me in prayer and praise for this beautiful family God is rebuilding.
What a Christmas!
I praise you Lord Jesus!
IN HIM....

JaminWelcome to Freebie Friday!

A week from today is Christmas! This time of year, as we turn our thoughts towards the birth of Christ, is the perfect time to share the BEST freebie of all with kids! The free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ!

Romans 6:23 tells us:

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

And in John 3:16 we learn:

For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

and Acts 16:31 tells us

. . . Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved . . .

It is all so simple, and it's FREE! Click here to find freebies that will help you share with children how Jesus died for our sins and offers us eternal life as a free gift.

It's the BEST freebie of all!

I will see you next year!

Happy homeschooling,

Why Jesus is Better Than Santa

I posted this 2 years ago on my blog.  I still love it , so I thought I would share it again.  I don't dislike Santa...but Jesus is the real reason for the season!  Only 1 more week until Christmas!

Why Jesus is Better Than Santa Claus

By Rev. James Spellman of Ohio

*Santa lives at the North Pole... JESUS is everywhere.

*Santa rides in a sleigh... JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water.

*Santa comes but once a year... JESUS is an ever present help.

*Santa fills your stockings with goodies... JESUS supplies all your needs.

*You have to wait in line to see Santa... JESUS is as close as the mention of His name.

*Santa lets you sit on his lap... JESUS lets you rest in His arms.

*Santa doesn't know your name, all he can say is "Hi little boy or girl, what's your name?"... JESUS knew our name before we did. Not only does He know our name, He knows our address too. He knows our history and future and He even knows how many hairs are on our head.

*Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly... JESUS has a heart full of love.

*All Santa can offer is HO HO HO... JESUS offers health, help and hope.

*Santa says "You better not cry"... JESUS says "Cast all your cares on me for I care for you."

*Santa's little helpers make toys... JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts, repairs broken homes and builds mansions.

*Santa may make you chuckle but...JESUS gives you a joy that is your strength.

*While Santa puts gifts under your tree... JESUS became our gift and died on the tree.

Its obvious there is really no comparison! Jesus is still the reason for the season. Yes, Jesus is better, he is even better than Santa Claus.

I found this poem over at the 1+1+1=1 blog.  It is part of a lovely FREE Christmas Symbols lapbook she has put together!  I just LOVE the poem!  It completely speaks to how I feel about Christmas in my heart!

Happy Homeschooling,

Jamin

What I Don't Want for Christmas - A Gift Certificate of Death

Every year my mom and I play this game that we call, "What I don't want for Christmas." We just tell each other all the things we do not want, from singing fish mounts to hideous sweaters. I could be shopping in a store and something will catch my eye and I have to call my mom right away to tell her that I don't want the new Barry Manilow CD, because you never know, she may have forgotten that I despise Barry Manilow and she could be buying it for me at that very moment. I'm a good daughter for helping her to spend her money wisely.

But this . . . this is by far at the top of my I Do Not Want list. Planned Parenthood is now offering gift certificates that can be used for abortions. How would you like to get that gift? "Here Loved One, I don't want you to experience the joy a baby brings into your life because I think you're stupid and should just find your joy in material objects that don't return love, teach you valuable lessons, and brings you closer in a relationship with a Creator."

A sagerat salute to The Pilgrim over at Defending. Contending. The link in that blog post to the resource is no longer working but you can read more at Fox News.

I am in a blogging mood.  Lately I really have to be in the right mood to do something or I shy away from it!  That's pregnancy for ya!

I am now 24 weeks and 3 days pregnant!  This is a photo of me taken by my 12 year old son a couple weeks ago  . . .

I love being pregnant.  This is my 6th child and it just doesn't get old!  I am getting old, but being pregnant is just as great every time!  When you are 40 and carrying a child, there are differences, but I like to focus on the "I'm more patient" or "I'm more mature" type of differences instead of the ones that are excused by my being "advanced maternal age".  Yes, I have a harder time getting up off the floor than I used to, I have a lot of gray hair, I want to go to bed at 7, etc. BUT this old lady isn't doing too bad overall!

I've also had a first!  I witnessed my first home birth!  My Niece, Haley, gave birth yesterday to her 3rd child . . . a beautiful son.

It's an experience I will never forgot and am so thankful I was able to be there!  I even got to cut the cord!  It took 2 hands...( man oh man umbilical cords are tough! ) but I did it and it made me happy that Haley asked me to!

Lately I have been spending a lot of time knitting, but mostly Christmas stockings that I'm crafting in secret until Christmas and baby things also secretively knit due to the fact that I am the only one that knows what I'm having!  My Husband wants to be surprised, so I'm not allowed to tell a soul!  Not sure if I've given it away yet, but I think I'm doing pretty good not saying what this little sweet one is!

I am knitting up a cozy pair of leg warmers for myself though.  (I'm almost done the 2nd one!)  The maternity skirt that I wear a lot is long but doesn't cover my whole calf and it is really cold outside this time of year!  I needed something woolly to keep me toasty!  This photo doesn't show how long my skirt is but I lifted it up so you could see the leg warmer . . .

We went to get our Christmas tree on the 8th!  Here I am with the kids . . .

and Daddy w/ the kids . . .

Our little decorated tree . . .

I hope you all have a blessed Christmas!  What a beautiful time of year this is!  The Lord has been so good to us this year and I am also looking forward to the new year and can't wait to see what He has in store for us in 2010!  We will be meeting our new baby in March and in May I will officially be the Mother of a teenager!  Pray for me ;-)

Thanks, as usual, for letting me share a bit of our lives! ~ Bridget

Our Christmas Letter

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11

How sweet the image of a babe wrapped in cloth laying in a mound of hay, trying to keep warm as his mother rests. How concerned the husband that loves her as he watches them sleep. Could this truly be the Time set forth in the Heavens for the Messiah to come? How long they had waited His coming. Oppression is great; the economy is such that the work this carpenter does pays but his taxes. With little left over no wonder they are in an animal stall giving birth to the King of all Kings. All things will be beautiful in His time.

Shepherds will shout to all who hear “Angels proclaimed The Messiah has been born and we have seen Him. Come if you dare and see the glory of the Lord.” Few will follow; fewer still will believe it possible. And what of the Kings that have traveled such great distances, slow going that it was to see the child Born King of the Jews, King of Eternity? So many saw them and wondered but did not seek out the child themselves. They traveled so far and yet those who knew them best were to busy to be bothered.

How heinous is the cross fashioned by the hand of an overworked carpenter; how menacing are the spikes hammered and shaped by the Blacksmith. Do you notice how peaceful the man with the crown of thorns on His head as he stumbles through the cobbled streets. If there were any other way to reconcile man to God He surely would have done it. If everything I do good really could out weigh the bad surely He would have been spared the cross. It truly is unfathomable this plan of Our Father.

Yet He has set Eternity in our hearts. He has called us to the stable to rejoice and to the Cross to be forgiven and the empty tomb to begin to understand, this truly is not all there is. Eternity is yours. It always has been. Just look into the hay you will see what shepherds saw so long ago. Hope was born that starry night. A Covenant was revealed, a promise was delivered.

Those who choose not to look will still see. Those that do not come will still be called. Those that bow before Him will be made glad for although it is more than they can fathom; it is not more than they can Believe. And with that they choose to worship the King of Kings, The Lord of Lord for all eternity, not just a day called Christmas.

Everything has been made beautiful in its time. Now is the Time. Esther was told “How do you know you were not chosen for a time such as this?” The same can be said of you…Today, may it be the day You look to the hay, to the Star, to the Cross and to the Tomb and Let the wonder that is Jesus fill Your Heart and Mind. This is our prayer and our gift to you in these uncertain times, Jesus the Messiah He has set Eternity in the Hearts of men, it is up to you where you will spend it. Will you come with us and see He who is the Christ?

Wishing You the Love Born in Bethlehem, Today and Always.

Because of Jesus, Mike and Bobbie ~ Christmas 2009

Happy Birthday to my 6 Year Old!

My little man turned 6 yesterday!  WOW!  Time flies.  Here are a few pictures from his party at Chuck E. Cheese!

Our family + 1.  :^)

The guests...

The cake!

The gifts...

The collapse on the way home!
:^)

It was a great day!  We started the day with gifts.  Then we took him out to brunch.  In the afternoon his best friend came over to play.  We had the party at dinner time.  We never even got to do his birthday treasure hunt because we ran out of time.  So he will be really surprised to get to do that today!

I can't believe he is 6!  Time goes waaaaayyyyy too fast!

Happy, happy birthday little man!  I LOVE YOU!

Mommy
