In our family Valentine's Day is one of the BIG celebration days! I really get no credit for this, my husband has made it that way. He picks out or makes cards for each one of us and includes family building and parent/child one-on-one gifts. My favorite part is that he emphasizes something he loves about each of us, a character quality that he wants to build up and encourage.
He also picks custom gifts for each of us. He doesn't give everyone the same thing, they are all chosen for the specific person in mind. Some years these cost money and sometimes they are all low cost or free things. Things that cost money might be giving one child a ticket to a dinner at their favorite fast food restaurant and another a trip to the toy store to pick out a treasure. Things that are low cost or free might be things like a trip to Walmart to pick out a goldfish, or a visit to the park to feed the geese.
Another thing he does is split up he and I among the children. So the child going to dinner goes with Daddy and another one does their gift with Mommy. These tickets are used in the month of February and we only do one at a time so the other parent is home with the rest of the family. We all delight in what the others get and it is SO fun for our entire family.
