An excerpt from brand new books by Mrs. Lorrie Flem
By the time we do reading, writing, and arithmetic it is time for bed. Who has time for all the other things we would love to include? What about science, keyboarding, history, thinking skills, and character training … you have got to be kidding! There’s simply too much to do in too little time.
I know I feel like this and I am sure some of you do too. I want to make time for the things that are truly eternally important and the things that my children need in order to be successful as adults. As a mother of 20, 17, and 15-year-old sons I am here to tell you that you ARE teaching character every day whether you do it proactively or reactively.
Teaching character reactively is what you do when you instinctively holler when the jar of honey gets broken open on the floor. Teaching character proactively is anticipating the need for us all to be ready with a proper response when the honey spills.
Of course, life happens. Honey spills, toilets overflow, water glasses get knocked over, dinners burn, accidents happen. Now take this a step further and realize that your children will be tempted by the master tempter. They will be tempted to steal, to lose their patience, to lie, to do less than their best, to cheat, to act in anger, etc.
So how can we fit in one more thing to our already over-packed day and make sure that we proactively teach them how to respond? How can we teach them how to make the right choices in a world working hard to convince them there is no such thing as right or wrong anymore?
Don’t add in another course if you already feel stretched. Instead slip it in painlessly with Lorrie’s newest books.
