• Mar. 27, 2007 - Who Has Time For Character Training?

An excerpt from brand new books by Mrs. Lorrie Flem
By the time we do reading, writing, and arithmetic it is time for bed. Who has time for all the other things we would love to include? What about science, keyboarding, history, thinking skills, and character training … you have got to be kidding! There’s simply too much to do in too little time.
I know I feel like this and I am sure some of you do too. I want to make time for the things that are truly eternally important and the things that my children need in order to be successful as adults. As a mother of 20, 17, and 15-year-old sons I am here to tell you that you ARE teaching character every day whether you do it proactively or reactively.
Teaching character reactively is what you do when you instinctively holler when the jar of honey gets broken open on the floor. Teaching character proactively is anticipating the need for us all to be ready with a proper response when the honey spills.
Of course, life happens. Honey spills, toilets overflow, water glasses get knocked over, dinners burn, accidents happen. Now take this a step further and realize that your children will be tempted by the master tempter. They will be tempted to steal, to lose their patience, to lie, to do less than their best, to cheat, to act in anger, etc.
So how can we fit in one more thing to our already over-packed day and make sure that we proactively teach them how to respond? How can we teach them how to make the right choices in a world working hard to convince them there is no such thing as right or wrong anymore?
Don’t add in another course if you already feel stretched. Instead slip it in painlessly with Lorrie’s newest books.
LEARNING & JOURNALING – Character Training One Day at a Time

Easy for mom ~ Fun for kids ~ Priceless for all

Character is learned one little lesson at a time. It is only with daily reinforcement that you will see one small improvement after another.

We've done all the work. When the phone rings have them grab this book. Don't fit it in, grab it and go. While you're busy, they can study character and be learning while they're journaling!

Here's how easy it is to teach character:
  • 42 weeks of 5 character lessons and drawing and/or writing prompts.
  • Each week focuses on one trait.
  • Both books correlate the topics covered for easy family learning.
  • Wire bound for durability and accessibility for both left and right handed Artists/Authors
Covering:
  • 24 character traits and their associated biblical knowledge
  • 10 Commandments
  • Fruits of the Spirit
  • Why we celebrate Valentines, Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
  • All 107 points of the Westminster Shorter Catechism
Turn interruptions into valuable learning time for your children.Teach them the truth and keep all their special papers as they grow and learn about God in this little bound book. It will be a treasure to keep.

What you won’t find in these new books:

  • No decisions to make.
  • No lessons to prepare for.
  • No papers to have ready.
  • No activities to choose from.
  • No papers to store or save.
  • NO WASTED TIME!
Warning: The material used in this book may be hazardous to your sinful life!

Get one copy for each child and let us help you teach your children the character qualities you want them to learn.

Wow! Those books sound great. I'll be sure to buy them when I'm buying my curriculum for the fall. My middle will be 4 in the fall so it's perfect.

This hits the spot. I have 2 boys (9 & 11) and character training is very important to me. We are very involved in Scouts and our church, both excellent places to train character. But I would like that focused time here in our hs. This also sounds like a precious keepsake as they grow in Christ. Something for them to see their OWN spiritual roadmap. Thank you.

I love the idea; I always seem to "lose" my little group when the phone rings! Is it possible to see a sample of the lessons/prompts? (You may already have a link to this posted somewhere, and I just missed it).
Thanks - M. Musick

I like the idea that you can use these books when you can't be "teaching." But, I wonder if in addition to Artists & Authors, you can create one for "Dreamers!?!" ;-)
